Jean-Pierre Sainton, grand historien des Antilles, hélas trop peu connu en France hexagonale, disparu à la fin du mois d’août 2023, était en effet non seulement un collègue mais un ami proche et sa perte, aussi brutale que prématurée, a été pour moi un choc majeur. Elle a suscité, de la part de collègues, mais aussi du grand public, un flot de réactions attristées devant la soudaineté de cette disparition inattendue.
