Remember<MG3403> how<MG5613> He spoke<MG2980> to you while He was still<MG2089> in Galilee<MG1056>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>saying<MG3004> that the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> must<MG1163> be handed<MG3860, 5495> over<MG3860> to sinful<MG268> men<MG444>, and be crucified<MG4717>, and on the third<MG5154> day<MG2250> rise<MG450> <i>from the dead.</i>” <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And they remembered<MG3403> His words<MG4487>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>and returned<MG5290> from the tomb<MG3419> and reported<MG518> all<MG3956> these<MG3778> things<MG3778> to the eleven<MG1733>, and to all<MG3956> the rest<MG3062>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> <i>these women</i> were Mary<MG3137> Magdalene<MG3094>, Joanna<MG2489b>, and Mary<MG3137> the <i>mother</i> of James<MG2385>; also<MG2532> the other<MG3062> women<MG3062> with them were telling<MG3004> these<MG3778> things<MG3778> to the apostles<MG652>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>But these<MG3778> words<MG4487> appeared<MG5316> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>to them as nonsense<MG3026>, and they would not<MG569> believe<MG569> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>the women. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Nevertheless<MG1161>, Peter<MG4074> got<MG450> up<MG450> and ran<MG5143> to the tomb<MG3419>; and when he stooped<MG3879> and<MG3879> looked<MG3879> in, he *saw<MG991> the linen<MG3608> wrappings<MG3608> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>only<MG3441>; and he went<MG565> away<MG565> to his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>home<MG848>, marveling<MG2296> at what<MG3588> had happened<MG1096>. <p class="hdg">The Road to Emmaus</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And behold<MG2400>, on that very<MG846> day<MG2250> two<MG1417> of them were going<MG4198> to a village<MG2968> named<MG3686> Emmaus<MG1695>, which was <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>sixty<MG1835> stadia<MG4712> from Jerusalem<MG2419>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And they were talking<MG3656> with each<MG240> other<MG240> about<MG4012> all<MG3956> these<MG3778> things<MG3778> which had taken<MG4819> place<MG4819>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>While<MG1722> they were talking<MG3656> and discussing<MG4802>, Jesus<MG2424> Himself<MG846> approached<MG1448> and <i>began</i> traveling<MG4848> with them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>But their eyes<MG3788> were kept<MG2902> from recognizing<MG1921> Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And He said<MG3004> to them, “What<MG5101> are these<MG3778> words<MG3056> that you are exchanging<MG474> with one<MG240> another<MG240> as you are walking<MG4043>?” And they came<MG2476> to<MG2476> a<MG2476> stop<MG2476>, looking<MG4659> sad<MG4659>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>One<MG1520> <i>of them,</i> named<MG3686> Cleopas<MG2810>, answered<MG611> and said<MG3004> to Him, “Are You <i>possibly</i> the only<MG3441> one<MG3441> living<MG3939> near<MG3939> Jerusalem<MG2419> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>who does not know<MG1097> about the things that happened<MG1096> here<MG1722, 846> in these<MG3778> days<MG2250>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And He said<MG3004> to them, “What<MG4169> sort<MG4169> of<MG4169> things<MG4169>?” And they said<MG3004> to Him, “Those<MG3588> about<MG4012> Jesus<MG2424> the Nazarene<MG3479>, who<MG3739> proved<MG1096> to be a prophet<MG4396> mighty<MG1415> in deed<MG2041> and word<MG3056> in<MG1726> the<MG1726> sight<MG1726> of God<MG2316> and all<MG3956> the people<MG2992>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>and how<MG3704> the chief<MG749> priests<MG749> and our rulers<MG758> handed<MG3860> Him over<MG3860> to be sentenced<MG2917> to death<MG2288>, and crucified<MG4717> Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>But we <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>were hoping<MG1679> that it was He who was<MG3195> going<MG3195> to<MG3195> redeem<MG3084> Israel<MG2474>. Indeed<MG235>, besides<MG2532, 4862> all<MG3956> this<MG3778>, it is <i>now</i> the third<MG5154> day<MG2250> since<MG575, 3739> these<MG3778> things<MG3778> happened<MG1096>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>But also<MG2532> some<MG5100> women<MG1135> among<MG1537> us left<MG1839> us bewildered<MG1839>. When they were at the tomb<MG3419> early<MG3720> in<MG3720> the<MG3720> morning<MG3720>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>and did not find<MG2147> His body<MG4983>, they came<MG2064>, saying<MG3004> that they had also<MG2532> seen<MG3708> a vision<MG3701> of angels<MG32a> who<MG3739> said<MG3004> that He was<MG2198> alive<MG2198>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And <i>so</i> some<MG5100> of those<MG3588> who were with us went<MG565> to the tomb<MG3419>, and found<MG2147> it just<MG2531a> exactly<MG3779> as<MG2531a> the women<MG1135> also<MG2532> had said<MG3004>; but Him they did not see<MG3708>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>And <i>then</i> He said<MG3004> to them, “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>You foolish<MG453> men<MG453> and slow<MG1021> of heart<MG2588> to believe<MG4100> in all<MG3956> that the prophets<MG4396> have spoken<MG2980>! <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Was it not necessary<MG1163> for the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>Christ<MG5547> to suffer<MG3958> these<MG3778> things<MG3778> and to come<MG1525> into<MG1525> His glory<MG1391>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>Then<MG2532> beginning<MG757> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>with Moses<MG3475> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>with all<MG3956> the Prophets<MG4396>, He explained<MG1329> to them the things <i>written</i> about<MG4012> Himself<MG1438> in all<MG3956> the Scriptures<MG1124>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>And they approached<MG1448> the village<MG2968> where<MG3757> they were going<MG4198>, and He gave<MG4364> the<MG4364> impression<MG4364> that He was going<MG4198> farther<MG4206>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>And <i>so</i> they strongly<MG3849> urged<MG3849> Him, saying<MG3004>, “Stay<MG3306> with us, for it is <i>getting</i> toward<MG4314> evening<MG2073>, and the day<MG2250> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>is now<MG2235> nearly<MG2827> over<MG2827>.” So<MG2532> He went<MG1525> in<MG1525> to stay<MG3306> with them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>And it came<MG1096> about<MG1096>, when<MG1722> He had reclined<MG2625> <i>at the table</i> with them, that He took<MG2983> the bread<MG740> and blessed<MG2127> <i>it,</i> and He broke<MG2806> <i>it</i> and <i>began</i> giving<MG1929> <i>it</i> to them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>And <i>then</i> their eyes<MG3788> were opened<MG1272> and they recognized<MG1921> Him; and He vanished<MG855> from <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>their sight<MG846>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>They said<MG3004> to one<MG240> another<MG240>, “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>Were our hearts<MG2588> not burning<MG2545> within<MG1722> us when<MG5613> He was speaking<MG2980> to us on the road<MG3598>, while<MG5613> He was <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>explaining<MG1272> the Scriptures<MG1124> to us?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>And they got<MG450> up<MG450> that very<MG846> hour<MG5610> and returned<MG5290> to Jerusalem<MG2419>, and found<MG2147> the eleven<MG1733> gathered<MG120a> together<MG120a> and those<MG3588> who<MG3588> were with them, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>saying<MG3004>, “The Lord<MG2962> has really<MG3689> risen<MG1453> and has appeared<MG3708> to Simon<MG4613>!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>They <i>began</i> to relate<MG1834> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>their experiences<MG3588> on the road<MG3598>, and how<MG5613> He was recognized<MG1097> by them at the breaking<MG2800> of the bread<MG740>. <p class="hdg">Other Appearances</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> while they were telling<MG2980> these<MG3778> things<MG3778>, <i>Jesus</i> Himself<MG846> <i>suddenly</i> stood<MG2476> in their midst<MG3319> and *said<MG3004> to them, “Peace<MG1515> <i>be</i> to you.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>But they were startled<MG4422> and frightened<MG1719>, and thought<MG1380> that they were looking<MG2334> at a spirit<MG4151>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>And He said<MG3004> to them, “Why<MG5101> are you frightened<MG5015>, and why<MG1223, 5101> are doubts<MG1261> arising<MG305> in your <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>hearts<MG2588>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>See<MG3708> My hands<MG5495> and My feet<MG4228>, that <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>it is I Myself<MG846>; touch<MG5584> Me and see<MG3708>, because<MG3754> a spirit<MG4151> does not have<MG2192> flesh<MG4561> and bones<MG3747> as you <i>plainly</i> see<MG2334> that I have<MG2192>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>And when He had said<MG3004> this<MG3778>, He showed<MG1166> them His hands<MG5495> and His feet<MG4228>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span>While they still<MG2089> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>could not<MG569> believe<MG569> <i>it</i> because<MG575> of their joy<MG5479> and astonishment<MG2296>, He said<MG3004> to them, “Have<MG2192> you anything<MG5100> here<MG1759a> to<MG1034> eat<MG1034>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-42.htm"><b>42</b></a></span>They served<MG1929> Him a piece<MG3313> of broiled<MG3702> fish<MG2486>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-43.htm"><b>43</b></a></span>and He took<MG2983> it and ate<MG2068> <i>it</i> in<MG1799> front<MG1799> of<MG1799> them. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-44.htm"><b>44</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> He said<MG3004> to them, “These<MG3778> are My words<MG3056> which<MG3739> I spoke<MG2980> to you while I was still<MG2089> with you, that all<MG3956> the things<MG3956> that are written<MG1125> about<MG4012> Me in the Law<MG3551> of Moses<MG3475> and the Prophets<MG4396> and the Psalms<MG5568> must<MG1163> be fulfilled<MG4137>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-45.htm"><b>45</b></a></span>Then<MG5119> He opened<MG1272> their <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>minds<MG3563> to understand<MG4920> the Scriptures<MG1124>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-46.htm"><b>46</b></a></span>and He said<MG3004> to them, “So<MG3779> it is written<MG1125>, that the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[w]</a></span>Christ<MG5547> would suffer<MG3958> and rise<MG450> from the dead<MG3498> on the third<MG5154> day<MG2250>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-47.htm"><b>47</b></a></span>and that repentance<MG3341> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[x]</a></span>for forgiveness<MG859> of sins<MG266> would be proclaimed<MG2784> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[y]</a></span>in His name<MG3686> to all<MG3956> the nations<MG1484>, beginning<MG757> from Jerusalem<MG2419>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-48.htm"><b>48</b></a></span>You are witnesses<MG3144> of these<MG3778> things<MG3778>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/24-49.htm"><b>49</b></a></span>And behold<MG2400>, I am sending<MG1821> the promise<MG1860> of My Father<MG3962> upon you;
