name="2"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-1.htm#aramaic"><b>1</b></a></span>And they picked up from Alim and all the assembly of the children of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin that is between Alim and Sinai in the fifteenth of the second month from the time that the children of Israel had gone from Egypt. <A name="3"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-2.htm#aramaic"><b>2</b></a></span>And all of the assembly of the children of Israel complained against Moshe and against Ahron in the wilderness: <A name="4"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-3.htm#aramaic"><b>3</b></a></span>And the children of Israel said to them: “We were wishing that we had died by the hand of LORD JEHOVAH in the land of Egypt when we were sitting by the pots of flesh and we were eating bread and were full, for you brought us to this wilderness to destroy the whole assembly of the children of Israel with hunger.”<p> <A name="5"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-4.htm#aramaic"><b>4</b></a></span>And LORD JEHOVAH said to Moshe, “Behold, I rain for you bread from Heaven, and the people shall come out and they will gather food of the day in the daytime, because I shall test them if they are walking in my laws or not. <A name="6"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-5.htm#aramaic"><b>5</b></a></span>And it will be in the sixth day they shall prepare what they bring and each one will be double over anything that they gather on every day.” <A name="7"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-6.htm#aramaic"><b>6</b></a></span>And Moshe and Ahron said to all the children of Israel, “In the evening you will know that LORD JEHOVAH brought you out from Egypt: <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-7.htm#aramaic"><b>7</b></a></span>And at dawn you will see the glory of LORD JEHOVAH, because your complaining was heard before LORD JEHOVAH, and we, who are we, that you were complaining against us?”<p> <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-8.htm#aramaic"><b>8</b></a></span>And Moshe said to them, “Whenever LORD JEHOVAH gives you flesh in the evening to eat and bread at dawn to be satisfied, because LORD JEHOVAH heard your complaining that you were complaining against him (and we, who are we?), it was not against us that you complained but against LORD JEHOVAH.”<p> <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-9.htm#aramaic"><b>9</b></a></span>And Moshe said to Ahron, “Say to all the assembly of the children of Israel, ‘Come before LORD JEHOVAH, because he has heard your complaining.’ <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-10.htm#aramaic"><b>10</b></a></span>And it was that when Ahron spoke to all the assembly of the children of Israel, they were turned to the wilderness, and behold, the glory of LORD JEHOVAH appeared in a cloud. <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-11.htm#aramaic"><b>11</b></a></span>And LORD JEHOVAH said to Moshe, <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-12.htm#aramaic"><b>12</b></a></span>“I have heard the grumbling of the children of Israel; say to them, “At the setting the sun you are eating meat, and at dawn you will be filled with bread, and you will know that I AM LORD JEHOVAH your God.”<p> <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-13.htm#aramaic"><b>13</b></a></span>And it was in the evening and the quail came up and covered the encampment, and at dawn there was a being, a mist of dew around the camp. <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-14.htm#aramaic"><b>14</b></a></span>And the mist of dew went up, and behold, on the face of the wilderness, fine and skinned off and a layer like frost on the ground. <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-15.htm#aramaic"><b>15</b></a></span>And the children of Israel saw, and they said, each man to his brother, “What is this? What is it?”, because they did not know what it was. Moshe said to them, “This is the bread that LORD JEHOVAH gives you to eat.” <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-16.htm#aramaic"><b>16</b></a></span>And this statement LORD JEHOVAH was commanding: a man is to gather from it a sufficiency for his consumption, a measure to a head, the number of your souls; you will take, each man, for one who is in his tent. <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-17.htm#aramaic"><b>17</b></a></span>And in this way the children of Israel did, and some gathered much, and some little. <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-18.htm#aramaic"><b>18</b></a></span>And they measured it in a measure, and those who had much had nothing left over, and those who had little did not lack; they gathered each man enough for his consumption. <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-19.htm#aramaic"><b>19</b></a></span>Moshe said to them, “A man shall not leave some of it for the morning.” <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-20.htm#aramaic"><b>20</b></a></span>And they did not listen to Moshe and they left some of it, each man, for the morning, and it caused crawling worms and it stank, and Moshe was angry with them. <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-21.htm#aramaic"><b>21</b></a></span>And they were gathering it at dawn; at dawn each man had enough for his consumption, and whenever the sun became hot, it was melting.<p> <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-22.htm#aramaic"><b>22</b></a></span>And it was in the sixth day they collected bread by two measures for each person, and all the Elders of the assembly came and showed Moshe. <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-23.htm#aramaic"><b>23</b></a></span>Moshe said to them, “This is what LORD JEHOVAH said: The Sabbath rest is holiness to LORD JEHOVAH. Tomorrow anything that you bake, bake, and anything that you boil, boil, and anything that is left keep cold for yourselves for the morning. <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-24.htm#aramaic"><b>24</b></a></span>And they left some of it for the morning, as Moshe commanded them, and it did not stink and no creeping thing was in it. <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-25.htm#aramaic"><b>25</b></a></span>Moshe said to them, “Eat it today, because today is the Sabbath to LORD JEHOVAH; today you will not find it in the field. <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-26.htm#aramaic"><b>26</b></a></span>Six days you will be gathering it and the seventh day is the Sabbath; there is none in it.<p> <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-27.htm#aramaic"><b>27</b></a></span>And it was on the seventh day, some people went out to collect and they did not find any. <A name="29"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-28.htm#aramaic"><b>28</b></a></span>And LORD JEHOVAH said to Moshe, “How long will you not keep my commands and my law? <A name="30"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-29.htm#aramaic"><b>29</b></a></span>See that LORD JEHOVAH gave to you the Sabbath, because of this LORD JEHOVAH gave bread of two days to you on the sixth day; each man shall return into his place and a man will not come forth from the door of his house on the seventh day. <A name="31"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-30.htm#aramaic"><b>30</b></a></span>And the people were rested on the seventh day.<p> <A name="32"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-31.htm#aramaic"><b>31</b></a></span>And the children of Israel called its name manna, and it was like the seed of white coriander, and its taste like honeycomb of honey. <A name="33"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-32.htm#aramaic"><b>32</b></a></span>And Moshe said, “This is the message that LORD JEHOVAH commanded: ‘Fill a measure of it; it will be preserved for your generations so that they will see the bread that I fed you in the wilderness when I brought you out from Egypt.’” <A name="34"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-33.htm#aramaic"><b>33</b></a></span>And Moshe said to Ahron, “Take one pot and cast a full measure of manna into it and set it before LORD JEHOVAH to be preserved for your generations. <A name="35"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-34.htm#aramaic"><b>34</b></a></span>Just as LORD JEHOVAH has taught me”, and Ahron placed it for a testimony to be preserved. <A name="36"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/16-35.htm#aramaic"><b>35</b></a></span>And the children of Israel ate manna forty years until they arrived at an inhabited land.
