</div> </div> <div class="article-box detail"> <div class="wysiwyg_area"> <div class="articleBodyText"> <p>TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Tokyo stocks soared on Wednesday morning, with the Nikkei index rising more than 5 percent, as steep gains in overseas equity markets overnight and expectations of Chinese financial reform triggered a rebound from recent dramatic losses.</p><p>     The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average climbed 988.12 points, or 5.67 percent, from Tuesday to end the morning at 18,415.20. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 66.04 points, or 4.66 percent, at 1,482.75.</p><p>     Every industry category on the main section gained ground, with gainers led by pharmaceutical, financing business and rubber products issues.</p><p>     Stocks opened sharply higher, with investors heartened by steep gains on Wall Street overnight as U.S. markets returned from a three-day weekend. Tokyo issues kept rising through the morning, aided by Shanghai stocks' gains after opening.</p><p>     China's dismal August trade data out Tuesday spurred expectations Chinese authorities will soon act with bold reforms to stimulate the world's second-largest economy, stemming concerns that saw global stocks erode for the past several months.</p><div class="page_limit free"></div><div class="page_limit"></div><p>     Sentiment was also strengthened by the eurozone's April-June gross domestic product upgrade overnight from preliminary data.</p><p>     Tokyo stocks had been technically undervalued and well overdue for a bold rebound, but further gains could be limited in the run-up to a U.S. Federal Reserve policy meeting next week, said Masashi Akutsu, equity strategist at SMBC Nikko Securities Inc.</p><p>     "It will be difficult for world markets to shift to an entirely risk-on mood until then, as investors are still unclear on the timing of an initial interest rate hike despite U.S. data suggesting the domestic economy is now ready to support it," Akutsu said.</p><p>     Fostering sustainable growth in China will likely take time, with authorities likely to look to infrastructure investment first as its effects are felt relatively quickly, he added.</p><p>     On the First Section, advancing issues trounced declining ones 1,860 to 27, while eight ended the morning unchanged.</p><div class="page_break auto free"></div><div class="page_break auto"></div><p>     Fuji Heavy Industries soared 323.50 yen, or 8.2 percent, to 4,286.00 yen after the Nikkei business daily reported early Wednesday the automaker is likely to raise its annual dividend to shareholders for the year ending next March, citing growing sales of its sports utility vehicles in North American markets.</p><p>     Issues linked to Apple Inc. rose amid reports the U.S. firm will announce new products at an event later in the day.
