The applicability and adaptation of these approaches in the Brazilian public school context was investigated, besides the possibility of being used as instruments to stimulate the processes of music practice, teaching and learning. Using the qualitative research methodology and data collection from observations, questionnaires, interviews and videos recorded, it was possible to raise the opinions and conceptions of the participants, five project scholars and twenty students of the school, about the activities. The workshop provided an interaction between the students which facilitated a sharing of strategies, information and music learning. As a result, we can highlight that the project offered opportunities for peer learning and the research proved the feasibility and applicability of non-formal and informal learning approaches as pedagogical possibilities for music learning.","author":[{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"Person","name":"Fernando M . The knowledge of musical learning processes in extracurricular contexts has been approached with great interest by researchers, throughout the years. The aim was to explore the link between these processes, its procedures and their interrelationships, to assist the work of teachers and enrich the practice of music in general. The methodological support of Action Research, in conjunction with the use of ethnographic techniques of data collection such as participant observation and questionnaires, allowed gathering students’ views about the applied activities. The subject “Musical Informal Practices,” offered for four months in the Undergraduate Course at the School of Music of the State University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, served as the base environment for the study. The research involved fourteen students and with the activities developed through them it was possible to apply, study and discuss the main musical practices of informal learning, with reference to the work of Professor Dr. Lucy Green (2008). Thus, at the end of the study, through the reports of the students, we concluded that the informal practices, after due adaptations, act as facilitators for the students’ in their musical practices.</p><div class="ds-related-work--ctas"><button class="ds2-5-text-link ds2-5-text-link--inline js-swp-download-button" data-signup-modal="{"location":"wsj-grid-card-download-pdf-modal","work_title":"Informal practices in a formal context of musical education An experience report","attachmentId":35948572,"attachmentType":"pdf","work_url":"https://www.academia.edu/9769351/Informal_practices_in_a_formal_context_of_musical_education_An_experience_report","alternativeTracking":true}"><span class="material-symbols-outlined" style="font-size: 18px" translate="no">download</span><span class="ds2-5-text-link__content">Download free PDF</span></button><a class="ds2-5-text-link ds2-5-text-link--inline js-wsj-grid-card-view-pdf" href="https://www.academia.edu/9769351/Informal_practices_in_a_formal_context_of_musical_education_An_experience_report"><span class="ds2-5-text-link__content">View PDF</span><span class="material-symbols-outlined" style="font-size: 18px" translate="no">chevron_right</span></a></div></div><div class="ds-related-work--container js-wsj-grid-card" data-collection-position="1" data-entity-id="34584553" data-sort-order="default"><a class="ds-related-work--title js-wsj-grid-card-title ds2-5-body-md ds2-5-body-link" href="https://www.academia.edu/34584553/Music_Education_in_the_Open_University_of_Brazil_informal_learning_practices">Music Education in the Open University of Brazil: informal learning practices</a><div class="ds-related-work--metadata"><a class="js-wsj-grid-card-author ds2-5-body-sm ds2-5-body-link" data-author-id="3866100" href="https://ioe-ac.academia.edu/Fl%C3%A1viaNarita">Flávia Narita</a></div><p class="ds-related-work--abstract ds2-5-body-sm">Green's (2008) informal music learning practices have been successfully implemented in many schools in the UK and in other countries, including Brazil. Her model has also raised questions about a different role ascribed to teachers: after setting a task, they stand back and observe their pupils so that they can diagnose their pupils' needs and make appropriate interventions. This allows pupils to be more independent from teachers' instructions, valuing pupils' ideas, peer learning and the development of autonomy. Subscribing to these values but realizing that I have not always been able to implement them in my practice, I decided to adapt Green's model into an e-learning module and research my own practices as a supervisor of that module. Following a self-study action research design, I offered the module three times, each time implementing changes supported by the learning and the knowledge gained from previous experience. The choice of an e-learning setting for this research is due to my previous role as the coordinator of an Initial Music Teacher Education course offered within the Open University of Brazil system, which offers undergraduate courses using a mix of both online and face-to-face interactions. In this sense, I felt the need to investigate this new context of music teacher education and analyse if my practices and my values were attuned to the context of the Open University of Brazil.</p><div class="ds-related-work--ctas"><button class="ds2-5-text-link ds2-5-text-link--inline js-swp-download-button" data-signup-modal="{"location":"wsj-grid-card-download-pdf-modal","work_title":"Music Education in the Open University of Brazil: informal learning practices","attachmentId":54450392,"attachmentType":"pdf","work_url":"https://www.academia.edu/34584553/Music_Education_in_the_Open_University_of_Brazil_informal_learning_practices","alternativeTracking":true}"><span class="material-symbols-outlined" style="font-size: 18px" translate="no">download</span><span class="ds2-5-text-link__content">Download free PDF</span></button><a class="ds2-5-text-link ds2-5-text-link--inline js-wsj-grid-card-view-pdf" href="https://www.academia.edu/34584553/Music_Education_in_the_Open_University_of_Brazil_informal_learning_practices"><span class="ds2-5-text-link__content">View PDF</span><span class="material-symbols-outlined" style="font-size: 18px" translate="no">chevron_right</span></a></div></div><div class="ds-related-work--container js-wsj-grid-card" data-collection-position="2" data-entity-id="25562600" data-sort-order="default"><a class="ds-related-work--title js-wsj-grid-card-title ds2-5-body-md ds2-5-body-link" href="https://www.academia.edu/25562600/Informal_learning_and_school_activities_about_music_Tell_me_how_I_do_what_I_know_how_to_do_">Informal learning and school activities about music: "Tell me how I do what I know how to do"</a><div class="ds-related-work--metadata"><a class="js-wsj-grid-card-author ds2-5-body-sm ds2-5-body-link" data-author-id="40228233" href="https://independent.academia.edu/AlbertoVERDESOTORUIZ">Alberto VERDESOTO RUIZ</a><span>, </span><a class="js-wsj-grid-card-author ds2-5-body-sm ds2-5-body-link" data-author-id="700387" href="https://uam.academia.edu/DavidPovedaBicknell">David Poveda Bicknell</a><span>, </span><a class="js-wsj-grid-card-author ds2-5-body-sm ds2-5-body-link" data-author-id="36807764" href="https://uam.academia.edu/MartaMorgadeSalgado">Marta Morgade Salgado</a></div><div class="ds-related-work--ctas"><button class="ds2-5-text-link ds2-5-text-link--inline js-swp-download-button" data-signup-modal="{"location":"wsj-grid-card-download-pdf-modal","work_title":"Informal learning and school activities about music: \"Tell me how I do what I know how to do\"","attachmentId":45893080,"attachmentType":"pdf","work_url":"https://www.academia.edu/25562600/Informal_learning_and_school_activities_about_music_Tell_me_how_I_do_what_I_know_how_to_do_","alternativeTracking":true}"><span class="material-symbols-outlined" style="font-size: 18px" translate="no">download</span><span class="ds2-5-text-link__content">Download free PDF</span></button><a class="ds2-5-text-link ds2-5-text-link--inline js-wsj-grid-card-view-pdf" href="https://www.academia.edu/25562600/Informal_learning_and_school_activities_about_music_Tell_me_how_I_do_what_I_know_how_to_do_"><span class="ds2-5-text-link__content">View PDF</span><span class="material-symbols-outlined" style="font-size: 18px" translate="no">chevron_right</span></a></div></div><div class="ds-related-work--container js-wsj-grid-card" data-collection-position="3" data-entity-id="82106123" data-sort-order="default"><a class="ds-related-work--title js-wsj-grid-card-title ds2-5-body-md ds2-5-body-link" href="https://www.academia.edu/82106123/O_despertar_do_m%C3%BAsico_para_a_educa%C3%A7%C3%A3o_musical_limita%C3%A7%C3%B5es_e_expectativas_de_sua_atua%C3%A7%C3%A3o_na_sociedade">O despertar do músico para a educação musical: limitações e expectativas de sua atuação na sociedade</a><div class="ds-related-work--metadata"><a class="js-wsj-grid-card-author ds2-5-body-sm ds2-5-body-link" data-author-id="48111278" href="https://independent.academia.edu/%C3%89rikaAndradeSilva">Érika Andrade Silva</a></div><p class="ds-related-work--metadata ds2-5-body-xs">2011</p><p class="ds-related-work--abstract ds2-5-body-sm">A presente pesquisa desenvolveu-se no Programa de Pos-Graduacao em Educacao da UFSCar, na linha de pesquisa Praticas Sociais e Processos Educativos. The entire learning process has generally been organized and implemented with guidance and supervision by the teacher. In Indonesia, music learning in formal schools still applies the standardization of Western music theory. In fact, music learning practices that offer local pedagogical values provide a very diverse portrait. In higher education, music learning that applies local pedagogy has been going on for some time. The Music Education Study Program (PSPM) of Lampung University is one of the tertiary educational institutions that has implemented music learning practices based on local pedagogy. Learning practices that are also performance-based are carried out with "informal" stages and processes. This notion means that local pedagogy is based on informal music practices in Lampung society. Informal music learning practices have not been recognized as the curriculum of formal institutions. This article looks at the concept of Lampung local pedagogy applied in music performance-based learning practices in formal areas. The central theoretical perspective in this research uses Green's (2008) thoughts on informal learning in the classroom. Data were collected through observation and in-depth interviews with lecturers and students of levels 2 and 3. As a result, the concept of local music pedagogy that takes place in music performance-based learning at PSPM University of Lampung (1) provides opportunities for students to learn while creating; (2) provides space for collaboration and social participation; and (3) strengthens peer learning in groups.</p><div class="ds-related-work--ctas"><button class="ds2-5-text-link ds2-5-text-link--inline js-swp-download-button" data-signup-modal="{"location":"wsj-grid-card-download-pdf-modal","work_title":"Perspectives on Music Pedagogy in Informal, Performance-Based Learning","attachmentId":104040772,"attachmentType":"pdf","work_url":"https://www.academia.edu/104264254/Perspectives_on_Music_Pedagogy_in_Informal_Performance_Based_Learning","alternativeTracking":true}"><span class="material-symbols-outlined" style="font-size: 18px" translate="no">download</span><span class="ds2-5-text-link__content">Download free PDF</span></button><a class="ds2-5-text-link ds2-5-text-link--inline js-wsj-grid-card-view-pdf" href="https://www.academia.edu/104264254/Perspectives_on_Music_Pedagogy_in_Informal_Performance_Based_Learning"><span class="ds2-5-text-link__content">View PDF</span><span class="material-symbols-outlined" style="font-size: 18px" translate="no">chevron_right</span></a></div></div><div class="ds-related-work--container js-wsj-grid-card" data-collection-position="7" data-entity-id="41586611" data-sort-order="default"><a class="ds-related-work--title js-wsj-grid-card-title ds2-5-body-md ds2-5-body-link" href="https://www.academia.edu/41586611/The_State_of_the_Art_in_Music_Education_Research_in_Brazil">The State of the Art in Music Education Research in Brazil</a><div class="ds-related-work--metadata"><a class="js-wsj-grid-card-author ds2-5-body-sm ds2-5-body-link" data-author-id="119491656" href="https://independent.academia.edu/GuilhermeRamos76">Guilherme Ramos</a><span>, </span><a class="js-wsj-grid-card-author ds2-5-body-sm ds2-5-body-link" data-author-id="38025395" href="https://uergs.academia.edu/CRolimWolffenb%C3%BCttel">Cristina Rolim Wolffenbüttel</a></div><p class="ds-related-work--metadata ds2-5-body-xs">International Journal of Social Science Studies, 2019</p><p class="ds-related-work--abstract ds2-5-body-sm">This article presents the results of research that aimed to map the scientific production in Music Education in the last twelve years. The reason for this dating lies on the fact that in 2006 a process was started for the insertion of music in schools, through Bill No. 330, culminating in Law No. 11.769/2008, which provides for the obligation of music teaching in basic education. Subsequently, Resolution No. 2 consolidated this obligation. From then on, there was an increase in scientific production in Music Education in Brazil. Thus, this research came from the questions: What subjects have been investigated in Music Education in Brazil in the last twelve years? What methodologies were used in these surveys? What are the theoretical references that underlie these investigations? What is the impact of these research studies on the Brazilian scientific scenario? Based on these questions, this research aimed to investigate the state of the art of musical education in Brazil in the last twelve years. The methodological design of the research was developed from data collection via the Internet, and data analysis was based on the use of content analysis. Among the results, it was observed that the themes of research in Music Education have been diversified, presenting a strong relationship with the political and educational issues involved and which underlie the pedagogical-musical work.</p><div class="ds-related-work--ctas"><button class="ds2-5-text-link ds2-5-text-link--inline js-swp-download-button" data-signup-modal="{"location":"wsj-grid-card-download-pdf-modal","work_title":"The State of the Art in Music Education Research in Brazil","attachmentId":61743423,"attachmentType":"pdf","work_url":"https://www.academia.edu/41586611/The_State_of_the_Art_in_Music_Education_Research_in_Brazil","alternativeTracking":true}"><span class="material-symbols-outlined" style="font-size: 18px" translate="no">download</span><span class="ds2-5-text-link__content">Download free PDF</span></button><a class="ds2-5-text-link ds2-5-text-link--inline js-wsj-grid-card-view-pdf" href="https://www.academia.edu/41586611/The_State_of_the_Art_in_Music_Education_Research_in_Brazil"><span class="ds2-5-text-link__content">View PDF</span><span class="material-symbols-outlined" style="font-size: 18px" translate="no">chevron_right</span></a></div></div><div class="ds-related-work--container js-wsj-grid-card" data-collection-position="8" data-entity-id="92701180" data-sort-order="default"><a class="ds-related-work--title js-wsj-grid-card-title ds2-5-body-md ds2-5-body-link" href="https://www.academia.edu/92701180/The_Operationalization_of_Music_Teaching_in_Basic_Education_A_Documentary_Research_at_the_Municipal_Education_Council_of_Porto_Alegre_Brazil">The Operationalization of Music Teaching in Basic Education: A Documentary Research at the Municipal Education Council of Porto Alegre/Brazil</a><div class="ds-related-work--metadata"><a class="js-wsj-grid-card-author ds2-5-body-sm ds2-5-body-link" data-author-id="38025395" href="https://uergs.academia.edu/CRolimWolffenb%C3%BCttel">Cristina Rolim Wolffenbüttel</a></div><p class="ds-related-work--metadata ds2-5-body-xs">International Journal of Social Science Studies, 2023</p><p class="ds-related-work--abstract ds2-5-body-sm">The teaching of music in Brazilian schools has come a long way, going through insertion and exclusion moments. These processes can be analyzed based on the actions of the education councils that, according to Resolution CNE/CEB No. 2/2016, have an important role, as they are consultative, normative, supervisory and deliberative bodies of the education system. Based on these assumptions, this article presents the research that investigated the performance of the Municipal Council of Education of Porto Alegre, state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, based on the documents drawn up by it. The methodology was structured in a qualitative approach, using documental research as a method, and in the use of document collection and Internet research as techniques for data collection. Data analysis took place through the use of content analysis, having the theoretical frameworks structured in educational policies, legislation, and concepts of music education. This research is relevant as it is considered appropriate to relate the existing legislation regarding the teaching of music in schools, the need for its consolidation in state and municipal bodies, through education councils, and to connect institutional bodies in this process. It is expected that with the results of this investigation it will be possible to strengthen the current legislation, encourage the elaboration of new laws, as well as to reiterate the importance of education councils for the effective insertion of music in schools.</p><div class="ds-related-work--ctas"><button class="ds2-5-text-link ds2-5-text-link--inline js-swp-download-button" data-signup-modal="{"location":"wsj-grid-card-download-pdf-modal","work_title":"The Operationalization of Music Teaching in Basic Education: A Documentary Research at the Municipal Education Council of Porto Alegre/Brazil","attachmentId":95640232,"attachmentType":"pdf","work_url":"https://www.academia.edu/92701180/The_Operationalization_of_Music_Teaching_in_Basic_Education_A_Documentary_Research_at_the_Municipal_Education_Council_of_Porto_Alegre_Brazil","alternativeTracking":true}"><span class="material-symbols-outlined" style="font-size: 18px" translate="no">download</span><span class="ds2-5-text-link__content">Download free PDF</span></button><a class="ds2-5-text-link ds2-5-text-link--inline js-wsj-grid-card-view-pdf" href="https://www.academia.edu/92701180/The_Operationalization_of_Music_Teaching_in_Basic_Education_A_Documentary_Research_at_the_Municipal_Education_Council_of_Porto_Alegre_Brazil"><span class="ds2-5-text-link__content">View PDF</span><span class="material-symbols-outlined" style="font-size: 18px" translate="no">chevron_right</span></a></div></div><div class="ds-related-work--container js-wsj-grid-card" data-collection-position="9" data-entity-id="44005062" data-sort-order="default"><a class="ds-related-work--title js-wsj-grid-card-title ds2-5-body-md ds2-5-body-link" href="https://www.academia.edu/44005062/The_pedagogical_potential_in_the_collectivity_of_Brazilian_music_bands">The pedagogical potential in the collectivity of Brazilian music bands</a><div class="ds-related-work--metadata"><a class="js-wsj-grid-card-author ds2-5-body-sm ds2-5-body-link" data-author-id="1457867" href="https://unicamp.academia.edu/FernandoVieiradaCruz">Fernandinho Cruz</a></div><p class="ds-related-work--metadata ds2-5-body-xs">2020</p><p class="ds-related-work--abstract ds2-5-body-sm">We present a discussion of a fundamental base for the research we have been conducting on teaching in Brazilian music bands. We assume a perspective of music teaching by the diversity of discourses present in active musical making (Sílvia Cordeiro Nassif Schroeder, 2005), thus, we consider bands as a potential space for the teaching of music based on diversity and equity (Cruz, 2019). We consider that access to music learning in Brazil has occurred in three major ways, public schools, specialized schools and social projects. The teaching of music in Brazilian public schools has become submissive to the multipurpose teaching practice of teaching the different artistic languages with fragile methodological support. Music schools, on the other hand, have a smaller number of institutions that cannot be present in all cities, and, when yes, they serve a small portion of the population (Penna, 2013). Music bands, understood as a modality of social project, are historically linked to a profuse performance in the local customs of each community in which they are mainly inserted in small and medium-sized Brazilian interior cities (Benedito, 2011; Duprat, 2009; Lange, 1997; Pereira, 1999). Compared to public schools and specialized schools, Brazilians music bands build their pedagogical potential in the gap between a certain methodological indeterminacy present in public schools and the formalities of traditional specialized education. By engaging without exclusivity with western tradition music the band maintains its traditions in the execution of tonal music with demarcated intentionality of teaching practice. However, being profuse in different social realities of different interior cities, the band ends up still getting involved with the music of the daily life of the communities, thus creating a bond of mutual belonging, and making room for different discourses and musical perspectives (Cruz, 2019). This dynamic of continuous reconstruction of realities allowed us to observe that the potentialities of musical learning in bands go beyond classes and rehearsals. In addition to these moments endowed with pedagogical intention, we observed significant musical experiences in moments of rest through games and conversations, in addition to the intersection of such interactions outside the band's environment. Moreover, the point at which our research is found is to seek greater immersion in these moments that go beyond classes and rehearsals, also transposing the fact of the adoption of the daily repertoire of students in the band environment to unveil the dynamics of how students interact and experience their musical preferences, and how such dynamics can enhance the teaching of music in bands.</p><div class="ds-related-work--ctas"><button class="ds2-5-text-link ds2-5-text-link--inline js-swp-download-button" data-signup-modal="{"location":"wsj-grid-card-download-pdf-modal","work_title":"The pedagogical potential in the collectivity of Brazilian music bands","attachmentId":64338951,"attachmentType":"pdf","work_url":"https://www.academia.edu/44005062/The_pedagogical_potential_in_the_collectivity_of_Brazilian_music_bands","alternativeTracking":true}"><span class="material-symbols-outlined" style="font-size: 18px" translate="no">download</span><span class="ds2-5-text-link__content">Download free PDF</span></button><a class="ds2-5-text-link ds2-5-text-link--inline js-wsj-grid-card-view-pdf" href="https://www.academia.edu/44005062/The_pedagogical_potential_in_the_collectivity_of_Brazilian_music_bands"><span class="ds2-5-text-link__content">View PDF</span><span class="material-symbols-outlined" style="font-size: 18px" translate="no">chevron_right</span></a></div></div></div></div><div class="ds-sticky-ctas--wrapper js-loswp-sticky-ctas hidden"><div class="ds-sticky-ctas--grid-container"><div class="ds-sticky-ctas--container"><button class="ds2-5-button js-swp-download-button" data-signup-modal="{"location":"continue-reading-button--sticky-ctas","attachmentId":64384267,"attachmentType":"pdf","workUrl":null}">See full PDF</button><button class="ds2-5-button ds2-5-button--secondary js-swp-download-button" data-signup-modal="{"location":"download-pdf-button--sticky-ctas","attachmentId":64384267,"attachmentType":"pdf","workUrl":null}"><span class="material-symbols-outlined" style="font-size: 20px" translate="no">download</span>Download PDF</button></div></div></div><div class="ds-below-fold--grid-container"><div class="ds-work--container js-loswp-embedded-document"><div class="attachment_preview" data-attachment="Attachment_64384267" style="display: none"><div class="js-scribd-document-container"><div class="scribd--document-loading js-scribd-document-loader" style="display: block;"><img alt="Loading..." src="//a.academia-assets.com/images/loaders/paper-load.gif" /><p>Loading Preview</p></div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="scribd--no-preview-alert js-preview-unavailable"><p>Sorry, preview is currently unavailable.
