and all<MH3605> the house<MH1004> of Israel<MH3478> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>mourned<MH5091> after<MH310> the LORD<MH3068>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/7-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>Then Samuel<MH8050> spoke<MH559> to all<MH3605> the house<MH1004> of Israel<MH3478>, saying<MH559>, “If<MH518> you are returning<MH7725> to the LORD<MH3068> with all<MH3605> your heart<MH3824>, then remove<MH5493> the foreign<MH5236> gods<MH430> and the Ashtaroth<MH6252b> from among<MH8432> you, and direct<MH3559> your hearts<MH3824> to the LORD<MH3068> and serve<MH5647> Him alone<MH905>; and He will save<MH5337> you from the hand<MH3027> of the Philistines<MH6430>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/7-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>So the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> removed<MH5493> the Baals<MH1168a> and the Ashtaroth<MH6252b>, and served<MH5647> the LORD<MH3068> alone<MH905>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/7-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Then Samuel<MH8050> said<MH559>, “Gather<MH6908> all<MH3605> Israel<MH3478> to Mizpah<MH4708> and I will pray<MH6419> to the LORD<MH3068> for you.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/7-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>So they gathered<MH6908> to Mizpah<MH4709>, and drew<MH7579> water<MH4325> and poured<MH8210> it out<MH8210> before<MH6440> the LORD<MH3068>, and fasted<MH6684> on that day<MH3117> and said<MH559> there<MH8033>, “We have sinned<MH2398> against the LORD<MH3068>.” And Samuel<MH8050> judged<MH8199> the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> at Mizpah<MH4709>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/7-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Now when the Philistines<MH6430> heard<MH8085> that the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> had gathered<MH6908> at Mizpah<MH4709>, the governors<MH5633a> of the Philistines<MH6430> went<MH5927> up<MH5927> against<MH413> Israel<MH3478>. And when the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> heard<MH8085> <i>about it,</i> they were<MH3372a> afraid<MH3372a> of the Philistines<MH6430>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/7-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>So the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> said<MH559> to Samuel<MH8050>, “Do not stop<MH2790b> crying<MH2199> out<MH2199> to the LORD<MH3068> our God<MH430> for us, that He will save<MH3467> us from the hand<MH3027> of the Philistines<MH6430>!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/7-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Samuel<MH8050> took<MH3947> a nursing<MH2461> lamb<MH2924> and offered<MH5927> it as a whole<MH3632> burnt<MH5930a> offering<MH5930a> to the LORD<MH3068>; and Samuel<MH8050> cried<MH2199> out<MH2199> to the LORD<MH3068> for Israel<MH3478>, and the LORD<MH3068> answered<MH6030a> him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/7-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Now Samuel<MH8050> was offering<MH5927> up<MH5927> the burnt<MH5930a> offering<MH5930a>, and the Philistines<MH6430> advanced<MH5066> to battle<MH4421> Israel<MH3478>. But the LORD<MH3068> thundered<MH7481> with a great<MH1419> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>thunder<MH6963> on that day<MH3117> against<MH5921> the Philistines<MH6430> and confused<MH2000> them, so that they were struck<MH5062> down<MH5062> before<MH6440> Israel<MH3478>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/7-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And the men<MH376> of Israel<MH3478> came<MH3318> out<MH3318> of Mizpah<MH4709> and pursued<MH7291> the Philistines<MH6430>, and killed<MH5221> them as far<MH5704> as below<MH4480, 8478> Beth-car<MH1033>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/7-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Then Samuel<MH8050> took<MH3947> a stone<MH68> and placed<MH7760> it between<MH996> Mizpah<MH4709> and Shen<MH8129>, and named<MH7121, 8034> it <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>Ebenezer<MH72>, saying<MH559>, “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>So<MH2008> far<MH5704> the LORD<MH3068> has helped<MH5826> us.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/7-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>So the Philistines<MH6430> were subdued<MH3665>, and they did not come<MH935> anymore<MH3254, 5750> within the border<MH1366> of Israel<MH3478>. And the hand<MH3027> of the LORD<MH3068> was against the Philistines<MH6430> all<MH3605> the days<MH3117> of Samuel<MH8050>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/7-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>The cities<MH5892b> which<MH834> the Philistines<MH6430> had taken<MH3947> from Israel<MH3478> were restored<MH7725> to Israel<MH3478>, from Ekron<MH6138> even to Gath<MH1661>; and Israel<MH3478> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>recovered<MH5337> their territory<MH1366> from the hand<MH3027> of the Philistines<MH6430>.
