As the years passed, training opportunities expanded to include programs for anesthesiologists, surgeons, physical therapists and other specialties. In 1974, the Kansas Board of Regents established KU School of Allied Health (later renamed KU School of Health Professions) and KU School of Nursing as fully independent schools outside of the medical school. In 1998, clinical operations on the campus shifted to an independent hospital authority, now known as The University of Kansas Health System.
