Nevertheless, will the Son of Man, when He cometh, find the faith on the earth?"<Fr><p> <A name="10"></a><p class="hdg">The Pharisee and the Tax Collector<p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And He spake also this parable to some who had trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised the rest: <A name="11"></a><span class="red"><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span><FR>Two men went up into the temple to pray; one a Pharisee, and the other a tax-collector.<Fr> <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span><FR>The Pharisee, having taken his stand, was praying these things with himself: 'God, I thank Thee that I am not as the rest of men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax-collector!<Fr> <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span><FR>I fast twice on the Sabbath; I give a tenth of all that I acquire.'<Fr> <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span><FR>"But the tax-collector, standing afar off, would not lift up even his eyes to heaven, but was smiting his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, the sinner!'<Fr> <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span><FR>I say to you, this man went down justified to his house, rather than the other; because every one who exalts himself shall be humbled, but he who humbles himself shall be exalted."<Fr><p> <A name="16"></a><p class="hdg">Jesus Blesses the Children<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/19.htm#13">Matthew 19:13–15</a>; <a href ="../mark/10.htm#13">Mark 10:13–16</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And they were bringing to Him their babes, also, that He might touch them; but the disciples, seeing it, were rebuking them. <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>But Jesus called them to <i>Him</i>, saying, <FR>"Suffer the little children to come to Me, and forbid them not; for to such belongs the Kingdom of God.<Fr> <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span><FR>Verily I say to you, whosoever does not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child, shall in no wise enter therein."<Fr><p> <A name="19"></a><p class="hdg">The Rich Young Ruler<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/19.htm#16">Matthew 19:16–30</a>; <a href ="../mark/10.htm#17">Mark 10:17–31</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, "Good Teacher, <i>by</i> doing what shall I inherit eternal life?" <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And Jesus said to him, <FR>"Why do you call Me good? No one is good, but One?God.<Fr> <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span><FR>You know the commandments, 'Do not commit adultery,' 'Do not kill,' 'Do not steal,' 'Do not bear false witness,' 'Honor your father and your mother.'"<Fr> <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And he said, "All these I observed from my youth." <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And Jesus, hearing <i>it</i> said to him, <FR>"Yet one thing is lacking to you; sell all that you have, and distribute to the poor, and you shall have treasure in Heaven, and come, follow Me."<Fr> <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And, when he heard these things, he became very sorrowful; for he was exceedingly rich. <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And Jesus, seeing him, said, <FR>"With what difficulty do those having riches enter into the Kingdom of God!<Fr> <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span><FR>for it is easier for a camel to enter through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God."<Fr> <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>And those hearing <i>it</i> said, "And who can be saved?" <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>But He said, <FR>"The things impossible with men are possible with God."<Fr><p> <A name="29"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>And Peter said, "Behold, having left our possessions, we followed Thee." <A name="30"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>And He said to them, <FR>"Verily I say to you there is no one who left house, or wife, or brothers, or parents, or children for the sake of the Kingdom of God,<Fr> <A name="31"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span><FR>who shall not receive manifold more in this time, and in the coming age eternal life."<Fr><p> <A name="32"></a><p class="hdg">The Third Prediction of the Passion<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/20.htm#17">Matthew 20:17–19</a>; <a href ="../mark/10.htm#32">Mark 10:32–34</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>And, taking the twelve aside, He said to them, <FR>"Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and all the things, written through the prophets respecting the Son of Man, will be accomplished;<Fr> <A name="33"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span><FR>for He will be delivered up to the gentiles, and will be mocked, and insulted, and spit upon,<Fr> <A name="34"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span><FR>and they will scourge Him, and kill Him; and, on the third day, He will rise again."<Fr> <A name="35"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>And they understood none of these things; and this saying was hidden from them, and they were not understanding the things being said.<p> <A name="36"></a><p class="hdg">Jesus Heals a Blind Beggar<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/20.htm#29">Matthew 20:29–34</a>; <a href ="../mark/10.htm#46">Mark 10:46–52</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>And it came to pass, when He was drawing near to Jericho, that a certain blind man was sitting by the wayside, begging. <A name="37"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>And, hearing a multitude passing along, he was inquiring what this might be. <A name="38"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>And they told him, that Jesus the Nazarene was passing by. <A name="39"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>And he cried, saying, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" <A name="40"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>And those going before were rebuking him, that he should be silent; but he kept crying out much more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" <A name="41"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>And Jesus, standing still, commanded that he be brought to Him; and, when he drew near, He asked him, <A name="42"></a><span class="red"><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span><FR>"What do you wish that I should do for you?"<Fr> And he said, "Lord, that I may receive sight." <A name="43"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-42.htm"><b>42</b></a></span>And Jesus said to him, <FR>"Receive sight; your faith has made you whole."<Fr> <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/18-43.htm"><b>43</b></a></span>And instantly he received sight, and was following Him, glorifying God.
