and they were among the mighty<MH1368> men<MH1368> who helped<MH5826> <i>him</i> in war<MH4421>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>They were equipped<MH5401b> with bows<MH7198>, using<MH3231, 8041> both the<MH3231> right<MH3231> hand<MH3231> and the<MH8041> left<MH8041> <i>to sling</i> stones<MH68> and<i> shoot</i> arrows<MH2671> with the bow<MH7198>; <i>they were</i> Saul’s<MH7586> kinsmen<MH251> from Benjamin<MH1144>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>The chief<MH7218> was Ahiezer<MH295>, then Joash<MH3060>, the sons<MH1121> of Shemaah<MH8094> the Gibeathite<MH1395>; and Jeziel<MH3149> and Pelet<MH6404>, the sons<MH1121> of Azmaveth<MH5820a>, and Beracah<MH1294>, and Jehu<MH3058> the Anathothite<MH6069>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>and Ishmaiah<MH3460> the Gibeonite<MH1393>, a mighty<MH1368> man<MH1368> among the thirty<MH7970>, and in<MH5921> charge<MH5921> of<MH5921> the thirty<MH7970>. <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>Then Jeremiah<MH3414>, Jahaziel<MH3166>, Johanan<MH3076>, Jozabad<MH3107> the Gederathite<MH1452>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>Eluzai<MH498>, Jerimoth<MH3406>, Bealiah<MH1183>, Shemariah<MH8114>, Shephatiah<MH8203> the Haruphite<MH2741>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>Elkanah<MH511>, Isshiah<MH3449>, Azarel<MH5832>, Joezer<MH3134>, Jashobeam<MH3434>, the Korahites<MH7145>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>and Joelah<MH3132> and Zebadiah<MH2069>, the sons<MH1121> of Jeroham<MH3395> of Gedor<MH1446>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>From the Gadites<MH1425> valiant<MH2428> mighty<MH1368> men<MH1368> went<MH914> over<MH914> to David<MH1732> at the stronghold<MH4679> in the wilderness<MH4057b>, men<MH376> trained<MH6635> for war<MH4421> who could handle<MH6186a> a large<MH6793c> shield<MH6793c> and spear<MH7420>, whose faces<MH6440> were <i>like</i> the faces<MH6440> of lions<MH743b>, and <i>they were</i> as swift<MH4116> as the gazelles<MH6643b> on the mountains<MH2022>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Ezer<MH5829> <i>was</i> the first<MH7218>, Obadiah<MH5662> the second<MH8145>, Eliab<MH446> the third<MH7992>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Mishmannah<MH4925> the fourth<MH7243>, Jeremiah<MH3414> the fifth<MH2549>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Attai<MH6262> the sixth<MH8345>, Eliel<MH447> the seventh<MH7637>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Johanan<MH3076> the eighth<MH8066>, Elzabad<MH443> the ninth<MH8671>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Jeremiah<MH3414> the tenth<MH6224>, <i>and</i> Machbannai<MH4344>, the eleventh<MH6249, 6240>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>These<MH428> men<MH428> from the sons<MH1121> of Gad<MH1410> were <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>captains<MH7218> of the army<MH6635>; the one<MH259> who was least<MH6996a> was <i>equal</i> to a hundred<MH3967>, and the greatest<MH1419>, to a thousand<MH505>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>These<MH428> are the ones<MH1992a> who<MH834> crossed<MH5674a> the Jordan<MH3383> in the first<MH7223> month<MH2320>, when it was overflowing<MH4390, 5921> all<MH3605> its banks<MH1415>, and they put<MH1272> to<MH1272> flight<MH1272> all<MH3605> those in the valleys<MH6010>, to the east<MH4217> and to the west<MH4628>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Then some<MH4480> of the sons<MH1121> of Benjamin<MH1144> and Judah<MH3063> came<MH935> to the stronghold<MH4679> to David<MH1732>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>David<MH1732> went<MH3318> out<MH3318> to meet<MH6440> them, and said<MH559> to them, “If<MH518> you come<MH935> peacefully<MH7965> to help<MH5826> me, my heart<MH3824> shall be united<MH3162> with you; but if<MH518> to betray<MH7411b> me to my enemies<MH6862c>, since there is no<MH3808> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>wrong<MH2555> in my hands<MH3709>, may the God<MH430> of our fathers<MH1> look<MH7200> on <i>it</i> and decide<MH3198>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Then the Spirit<MH7307> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>covered<MH3847> Amasai<MH6022> like<MH3847> clothing<MH3847>, the chief<MH7218> of the thirty<MH7970>; <i>and he said,</i> <t><p class="indent1">“<i>We are</i> yours, David<MH1732>, <t><p class="indent1">And <i>are</i> with you, son<MH1121> of Jesse<MH3448>! <t><p class="indent1">Peace<MH7965>, peace<MH7965> to you, <t><p class="indent1">And peace<MH7965> to him who helps<MH5826> you; <t><p class="indent1">Indeed<MH3588>, your God<MH430> helps<MH5826> you!” <p class="R">Then David<MH1732> received<MH6901> them and made<MH5414> them <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>captains<MH7218> of the troops<MH1416>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>From Manasseh<MH4519> some<MH4480> also defected<MH5307> to David<MH1732> when he was about to go<MH935> to battle<MH4421> with the Philistines<MH6430> against<MH5921> Saul<MH7586>. But they did not help<MH5826> them, because<MH3588> the governors<MH5633a> of the Philistines<MH6430> sent<MH7971> him away<MH7971> after consultation<MH6098>, saying<MH559>, “At <i>the cost of</i> our heads<MH7218> he might defect<MH5307> to his master<MH113> Saul<MH7586>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>As he was going<MH1980> to Ziklag<MH6860>, <i>men</i> from Manasseh<MH4519> defected<MH5307> to him: Adnah<MH5734a>, Jozabad<MH3107>, Jediael<MH3043>, Michael<MH4317>, Jozabad<MH3107>, Elihu<MH453>, and Zillethai<MH6769>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>captains<MH7218> of thousands<MH505> who<MH834> belonged to Manasseh<MH4519>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>They helped<MH5826> David<MH1732> against<MH5921> the band<MH1416> of<MH1416> raiders<MH1416>, for they were all<MH3605> valiant<MH2428> mighty<MH1368> men<MH1368>, and were captains<MH8269> in the army<MH6635>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>For day<MH3117> by day<MH3117> <i>men</i> came<MH935> to David<MH1732> to help<MH5826> him, until<MH5704> there was a great<MH1419> army<MH4264> like the army<MH4264> of God<MH430>. <p class="hdg">Supporters Gathered at Hebron</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>Now these<MH428> are the numbers<MH4557> of the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>divisions<MH7218> equipped<MH2502b> for war<MH6635>, who came<MH935> to David<MH1732> at Hebron<MH2275a>, to turn<MH5437> the kingdom<MH4438> of Saul<MH7586> to him, according to the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>word<MH6310> of the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>The sons<MH1121> of Judah<MH3063> who carried<MH5375> shield<MH6793c> and spear<MH7420> <i>numbered</i> 6,800<MH8337a, 505, 8083, 3967>, equipped<MH2502b> for war<MH6635>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>From the sons<MH1121> of Simeon<MH8095>, valiant<MH2428> mighty<MH1368> men<MH1368> of war<MH6635>, 7,100<MH7651, 505, 3967>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>From the sons<MH1121> of Levi<MH3878>, 4,600<MH702, 505, 8337a, 3967>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>Now Jehoiada<MH3077> was the leader<MH5057> of <i>the house of</i> Aaron<MH175>, and with him were 3,700<MH7969, 505, 7651, 3967>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>also Zadok<MH6659>, a young<MH5288> valiant<MH2428> mighty<MH1368> man<MH5288>, and <i>from</i> his father’s<MH1> house<MH1004>, twenty-two<MH6242, 8147> captains<MH8269>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_chronicles/12-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>From the sons<MH1121> of Benjamin<MH1144>, Saul’s<MH7586> kinsmen<MH251>, three<MH7969> thousand<MH505>;
