Below you will find a list of some of our outreach activities.</p> <p> </p> <h3>In the Community<em>: </em>Academic Outreach</h3> <p>The DS&T is proud to be involved in local projects, especially those involving our schools. Here are just a few of the academic programs we support:</p> <blockquote> <p><strong>Local High School Science Fairs</strong><br/>DS&T employees have volunteered to serve as judges in regional science fairs held every spring for the past 16 years. We invite student winners to CIA Headquarters where we hold a special ceremony to honor their achievements. They also receive a tour of the headquarters building and visit science-oriented displays showcasing the work of CIA employees.</p> <p><br/><strong>National Youth Leadership Forum on Defense, Intelligence, and Diplomacy</strong><br/>DS&T senior managers are available as speakers for this program that provides an intense and stimulating exploration of the leadership field of government service for high school students. The program has introduced America's brightest students to challenging careers in national security, intelligence, and the diplomatic corps.<strong><br/><br/>The Presidential Classroom</strong><br/>CIA officers have participated as volunteer instructors and guest speakers for the Presidential Classroom, a prestigious program for promising high school students. Presidential Classroom takes students behind the scenes of our nation's capital for seminars and discussions featuring Congressmen, journalists, Presidential appointees, and other Washington insiders. The Presidential Classroom draws its instructors from education, civil service, the military, and the private sector.<strong><br/><br/>Viva Technology</strong><br/>The CIA supports the Hispanic Engineering National Achievement Award Conference's dedication to increasing awareness of engineering and technical fields to middle and high school students. DS&T officers have participated as keynote speakers for this pre-college science and engineering outreach program that is designed to enlighten teachers, parents, and students about the many ways that scientists and engineers impact our daily lives.</p> </blockquote> <p> </p> <h3><strong>Across the Nation</strong><em><strong>:</strong></em> Professional Outreach</h3> <p>The DS&T supports several minority conferences.  In most cases we participate as a corporate affiliate or sponsor. As such, the DS&T has the opportunity to take part in many conference activities, including career fairs. We usually provide multimedia presentations on some of our activities and software tools. We sometimes sponsor workshops, provide speakers, or put some of our technical tools on display. DS&T recruiters are always on hand to answer any question conference members might have regarding employment. The organizations we have an affiliation with include, but are not limited to:</p> <blockquote> <p><strong>American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES)</strong><br/>The AISES mission seeks to increase substantially the representation of American Indian and Alaskan Natives in engineering, science, and other related technology disciplines.</p> <p><strong><br/>Black Executive Exchange Program (BEEP)</strong><br/>BEEP is a voluntary partnership between the National Urban League, corporate America, government, and other institutions to loan African-American executives to participating colleges as "Visiting Professors." Visiting Professors lecture in credit-bearing courses that correspond to their industries and participate in other BEEP-related activities such as networking sessions, workshops, and mock job interviews. BEEP's mission is to share learning experiences across generations, cultivate new leaders, and inspire achievements "beyond the possible" through committed involvement and operational excellence.</p> <p><strong><br/>National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)</strong><br/>NSBE's mission is to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community. NSBE has more than 18,000 members and is the largest student-managed organization in the country. NSBE is comprised of more than 270 chapters on college and university campuses, 75 Alumni Extension chapters nationwide, and 75 Pre-College chapters.</p> <p><strong><br/>Society for the Advancement of Chicanos & Native Americans in Science (SACNAS)</strong><br/>The mission of SACNAS is to encourage Chicano/Latino and Native American students to pursue graduate education and obtain the advanced degrees necessary for science research, leadership, and teaching careers at all levels.<strong></strong></p> <p><strong><br/>Society of Mexican American Engineers and Scientists</strong><br/>Originally founded for the purpose of increasing the number of Mexican Americans in the technical and scientific fields, the society has evolved into representing the Mexican American community in the all-important technological arena on issues related to education, economics, environment, and research. Many of its programs are now directed at increasing the number of Mexican American students at all grade levels that study and prepare to enter the technical professions.</p> <p><strong><br/>Society of Women Engineers (SWE)</strong><br/>SWE is a non-profit educational service organization dedicated to making known the need for women engineers and encouraging young women to consider an engineering education.
