<p>1947年杜鲁门（Truman）总统签署了 『国家安全法』，中央情报局应运而生。该法还设置一个中央情报总监（DCI）的职位，作为美国情报界的领导人; 此领导人同时就有关国家安全的情报事宜充当总统的主要顾问；而且担任中央情报局局长。『2004年情报改革及恐怖主义预防法』
