In particular, we have investigated the competitive effect between spectral broadening arising from nonlinear refraction (optical Kerr effect) and shrinking due to two photon absorption in the InGaAsP waveguide with chi^(3) nonlinearity. The shrunk spectrum recovers broadening by the enhancement effect of the nonlinear refractive index near the bandgap of InGaAsP with a bandgap wavelength of 1490 nm. The broadened spectral width at around 1525 nm (196.7 THz) becomes 10.7 times wider than that at around 1560 nm (192.3 THz) without the enhancement effect, where amplified optical pulses with a pulse width of 2 ps and a peak power of 10 W propagate through a 1-cm-long InGaAsP waveguide with a cross-section of 4 um^2. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=InGaAsP%20waveguide" title="InGaAsP waveguide">InGaAsP waveguide</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chi%5E%283%29%20nonlinearity" title=" Chi^(3) nonlinearity"> Chi^(3) nonlinearity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectral%20broadening" title=" spectral broadening"> spectral broadening</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=photon%20absorption" title=" photon absorption "> photon absorption </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/13656/spectral-broadening-in-an-ingaasp-optical-waveguide-with-kh3-nonlinearity-including-two-photon-absorption" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/13656.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">634</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2310</span> Full-Spectrum Photo-thermal Conversion of Point-mode Cu₂O/TiN Plasmonic Nanofluids</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xiaoxiao%20Yu">Xiaoxiao Yu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Guodu%20He"> Guodu He</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zihua%20Wu"> Zihua Wu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yuanyuan%20Wang"> Yuanyuan Wang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Huaqing%20Xie"> Huaqing Xie</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Core-shell composite structure is a common method to regulate the spectral absorption of nanofluids, but there occur complex preparation processes, which limit the applications in some fields, such as photothermal utilization and catalysis. This work proposed point-mode Cu₂O/TiN plasmonic nanofluids to regulate the spectral capturing ability and simplify the preparation process. Non-noble TiN nanoparticles with the localized surface plasmon resonance effect are dispersed in Cu₂O nanoparticles for forming a multi-point resonance source to enhance the spectral absorption performance. The experimental results indicate that the multiple resonance effect of TiN effectively improves the optical absorption and expands the absorption region. When the radius of Cu₂O nanoparticles is equal to 150nm, the optical absorption of point-mode Cu₂O/TiN plasmonic nanoparticles is best. Moreover, the photothermal conversion efficiency of Cu₂O/TiN plasmonic nanofluid can reach 97.5% at a volume fraction of 0.015% and an optical depth of 10mm. The point-mode nanostructure effectively enhances the optical absorption properties and greatly simplifies the preparation process of the composite nanoparticles, which can promote the application of multi-component photonic nanoparticles in the field of solar energy. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=solar%20energy" title="solar energy">solar energy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nanofluid" title=" nanofluid"> nanofluid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=point-mode%20structure" title=" point-mode structure"> point-mode structure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cu%E2%82%82O%2FTiN" title=" Cu₂O/TiN"> Cu₂O/TiN</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=localized%20surface%20plasmon%20resonance%20effect" title=" localized surface plasmon resonance effect"> localized surface plasmon resonance effect</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/177661/full-spectrum-photo-thermal-conversion-of-point-mode-cu2otin-plasmonic-nanofluids" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/177661.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">61</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2309</span> Bi-Dimensional Spectral Basis</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelhamid%20Zerroug">Abdelhamid Zerroug</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mlle%20Ismahene%20Sehili"> Mlle Ismahene Sehili</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Spectral methods are usually applied to solve uni-dimensional boundary value problems. In the present contribution, we have carried out a detailed study on the binding interaction of ascorbic acid (AA) with bovine hemoglobin (BHb) using steady state emission, time resolved fluorescence, UV-Vis absorption, circular dichroism (CD), Fourier transform infra-red (FT-IR) and three dimensional emission (3D) spectral studies. The results from the emission spectral studies unveiled that the quenching of BHb emission by AA is attributed to the formation of a complex in the ground state (static in nature) after correcting for inner filter effect. The binding parameters calculated from corrected emission quenching data revealed that BHb exhibited a significant binding affinity towards AA. Moreover, AA induced tertiary and secondary conformational changes of BHb were monitored by UV-Vis absorption, CD, FT-IR and 3D emission spectral studies. The results presented here will help to further understand the credible mechanism of BHb-AA system which is expected to provide insights into conformational and microenvironmental changes of BHb. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ascorbic%20acid" title="ascorbic acid">ascorbic acid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bovine%20hemoglobin" title=" bovine hemoglobin"> bovine hemoglobin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=circular%20dichroism" title=" circular dichroism"> circular dichroism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=three%20dimensional%20emission%20spectral%20studies" title=" three dimensional emission spectral studies"> three dimensional emission spectral studies</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/35592/study-of-interaction-between-ascorbic-acid-and-bovine-hemoglobin-by-multispectroscopic-methods" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/35592.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">977</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2307</span> Asymptotic Spectral Theory for Nonlinear Random Fields</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karima%20Kimouche">Karima Kimouche</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, we consider the asymptotic problems in spectral analysis of stationary causal random fields. By using optical absorption spectral data, the energy band gaps for all the glasses were evaluated and were found to be in the range of 2.34-2.59 eV; which is very useful for the construction of optical devices. Judd-Ofelt (J-O)theory has been applied to the optical absorption spectral profiles to calculate the J-O intensity parameters Ωλ (λ=2, 4 and 6) and consecutively used to evaluate various radiative properties such as radiative transition probability (AR), radiative lifetimes (τ_R) and branching ratios (β_R) for the prominent luminescent levels. The luminescence spectra for all the LTT glass samples have shown two intense peaks in bright red and Near Infrared regions at 650 nm (1G4→3F4) and 800 nm (3H4→3H6) respectively for which effective bandwidths (〖Δλ〗_P), experimental branching ratios (β_exp) and stimulated emission cross-sections (σ_se) are evaluated. The decay profiles for all the glasses were also recorded to measure the quantum efficiency of the prepared LTT glasses by coupling the radiative and experimental lifetimes. Accurate and efficient measurement of soil moisture is essential for precision agriculture. The aim of this study was to understand the spectral behavior of soil at different soil water content levels and identify the significant spectral bands for soil moisture content retrieval at field-scale. The study consisted of 60 soil samples from a maize farm, divided into four different treatments representing different moisture levels. Spectral signatures were measured for each sample in laboratory under artificial light using an Analytical Spectral Device (ASD) spectrometer, covering a wavelength range from 350 nm to 2500 nm, with a spectral resolution of 1 nm. The results showed that the absorption features at 1450 nm, 1900 nm, and 2200 nm were particularly sensitive to soil moisture content and exhibited strong correlations with the water content levels. Continuum removal was developed in the R programming language to enhance the absorption features of soil moisture and to precisely understand its spectral behavior at different water content levels. Statistical analysis using partial least squares regression (PLSR) models were performed to quantify the correlation between the spectral bands and soil moisture content. This study provides insights into the spectral behavior of soil at different water content levels and identifies the significant spectral bands for soil moisture content retrieval. The findings highlight the potential of spectroscopy for non-destructive and rapid soil moisture measurement, which can be applied to various fields such as precision agriculture, hydrology, and environmental monitoring. However, it is important to note that the spectral behavior of soil can be influenced by various factors such as soil type, texture, and organic matter content, and caution should be taken when applying the results to other soil systems. The results of this study showed a good agreement between measured and predicted values of Soil Moisture Content with high R2 and low root mean square error (RMSE) values. Model validation using independent data was satisfactory for all the studied soil samples. The results has significant implications for developing high-resolution and precise field-scale soil moisture retrieval models. These models can be used to understand the spatial and temporal variation of soil moisture content in agricultural fields, which is essential for managing irrigation and optimizing crop yield. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=soil%20moisture%20content%20retrieval" title="soil moisture content retrieval">soil moisture content retrieval</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=precision%20agriculture" title=" precision agriculture"> precision agriculture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=continuum%20removal" title=" continuum removal"> continuum removal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=remote%20sensing" title=" remote sensing"> remote sensing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=machine%20learning" title=" machine learning"> machine learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectroscopy" title=" spectroscopy"> spectroscopy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/168913/linking-soil-spectral-behavior-and-moisture-content-for-soil-moisture-content-retrieval-at-field-scale" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/168913.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">99</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2301</span> Effect of Joule Heating on Chemically Reacting Micropolar Fluid Flow over Truncated Cone with Convective Boundary Condition Using Spectral Quasilinearization Method </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pradeepa%20Teegala">Pradeepa Teegala</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ramreddy%20Chetteti"> Ramreddy Chetteti</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This work emphasizes the effects of heat generation/absorption and Joule heating on chemically reacting micropolar fluid flow over a truncated cone with convective boundary condition. For this complex fluid flow problem, the similarity solution does not exist and hence using non-similarity transformations, the governing fluid flow equations along with related boundary conditions are transformed into a set of non-dimensional partial differential equations. Several authors have applied the spectral quasi-linearization method to solve the ordinary differential equations, but here the resulting nonlinear partial differential equations are solved for non-similarity solution by using a recently developed method called the spectral quasi-linearization method (SQLM). Comparison with previously published work on special cases of the problem is performed and found to be in excellent agreement. The influence of pertinent parameters namely Biot number, Joule heating, heat generation/absorption, chemical reaction, micropolar and magnetic field on physical quantities of the flow are displayed through graphs and the salient features are explored in detail. Further, the results are analyzed by comparing with two special cases, namely, vertical plate and full cone wherever possible. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chemical%20reaction" title="chemical reaction">chemical reaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=convective%20boundary%20condition" title=" convective boundary condition"> convective boundary condition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=joule%20heating" title=" joule heating"> joule heating</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=micropolar%20fluid" title=" micropolar fluid"> micropolar fluid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectral%20quasilinearization%20method" title=" spectral quasilinearization method"> spectral quasilinearization method</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/53751/effect-of-joule-heating-on-chemically-reacting-micropolar-fluid-flow-over-truncated-cone-with-convective-boundary-condition-using-spectral-quasilinearization-method" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/53751.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">346</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2300</span> Spectral Clustering for Manufacturing Cell Formation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yessica%20Nataliani">Yessica Nataliani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Miin-Shen%20Yang"> Miin-Shen Yang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Cell formation (CF) is an important step in group technology. From the measured absorption spectra of Sm3+ ions in AFTT glasses, the optical band gap and Urbach energies have been evaluated. The spectroscopic parameters such as oscillator strengths (f), Judd-Ofelt (J-O) intensity parameters (Ωλ), spontaneous emission probability (AR), branching ratios (βR) and radiative lifetimes (τR) of various excited levels have been determined from the absorption spectrum by using J-O analysis. A strong luminescence in the reddish-orange spectral region has been observed for all the Sm3+ ions doped AFTT glasses. It consisting four emission transitions occurring from the 4G5/2metastable state to the lower lying states 6H5/2, 6H7/2, 6H9/2 and 6H11/2 upon exciting the sample with a 478 nm line of an argon ion laser. The stimulated emission cross-sections (σe) and branching ratios (βmeas) were estimated from the emission spectra for all emission transitions. Correlation of the radiative lifetime with the experimental lifetime measured from the day curves allows us to measure the quantum efficiency of the prepared glasses. In order to know the colour emission of the prepared glasses under near UV excitation, the emission intensities were analyzed using CIE 1931 colour chromaticity diagram. The aforementioned spectral studies carried out on Sm3+ ions doped AFTT glasses allowed us to conclude that, these glasses are best suited for orange-red visible lasers. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fluoro%20tungsten%20tellurite%20glasses" title="fluoro tungsten tellurite glasses">fluoro tungsten tellurite glasses</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=judd-ofelt%20intensity%20parameters" title=" judd-ofelt intensity parameters"> judd-ofelt intensity parameters</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lifetime" title=" lifetime"> lifetime</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stimulated%20emission%20cross-section" title=" stimulated emission cross-section"> stimulated emission cross-section</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43867/composition-dependent-spectroscopic-studies-of-sm3-doped-alkali-fluoro-tungsten-tellurite-glasses" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43867.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">277</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2298</span> Spectral Responses of the Laser Generated Coal Aerosol</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tibor%20Ajtai">Tibor Ajtai</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=No%C3%A9mi%20Utry"> Noémi Utry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M%C3%A1t%C3%A9%20Pint%C3%A9r"> Máté Pintér</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tomi%20Smausz"> Tomi Smausz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zolt%C3%A1n%20K%C3%B3nya"> Zoltán Kónya</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=B%C3%A9la%20Hopp"> Béla Hopp</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=G%C3%A1bor%20Szab%C3%B3"> Gábor Szabó</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zolt%C3%A1n%20Boz%C3%B3ki"> Zoltán Bozóki</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Characterization of spectral responses of light absorbing carbonaceous particulate matter (LAC) is of great importance in both modelling its climate effect and interpreting remote sensing measurement data. The residential or domestic combustion of coal is one of the dominant LAC constituent. According to some related assessments the residential coal burning account for roughly half of anthropogenic BC emitted from fossil fuel burning. Despite of its significance in climate the comprehensive investigation of optical properties of residential coal aerosol is really limited in the literature. There are many reason of that starting from the difficulties associated with the controlled burning conditions of the fuel, through the lack of detailed supplementary proximate and ultimate chemical analysis enforced, the interpretation of the measured optical data, ending with many analytical and methodological difficulties regarding the in-situ measurement of coal aerosol spectral responses. Since the gas matrix of ambient can significantly mask the physicochemical characteristics of the generated coal aerosol the accurate and controlled generation of residential coal particulates is one of the most actual issues in this research area. Most of the laboratory imitation of residential coal combustion is simply based on coal burning in stove with ambient air support allowing one to measure only the apparent spectral feature of the particulates. However, the recently introduced methodology based on a laser ablation of solid coal target opens up novel possibilities to model the real combustion procedure under well controlled laboratory conditions and makes the investigation of the inherent optical properties also possible. Most of the methodology for spectral characterization of LAC is based on transmission measurement made of filter accumulated aerosol or deduced indirectly from parallel measurements of scattering and extinction coefficient using free floating sampling. In the former one the accuracy while in the latter one the sensitivity are liming the applicability of this approaches. Although the scientific community are at the common platform that aerosol-phase PhotoAcoustic Spectroscopy (PAS) is the only method for precise and accurate determination of light absorption by LAC, the PAS based instrumentation for spectral characterization of absorption has only been recently introduced. In this study, the investigation of the inherent, spectral features of laser generated and chemically characterized residential coal aerosols are demonstrated. The experimental set-up and its characteristic for residential coal aerosol generation are introduced here. The optical absorption and the scattering coefficients as well as their wavelength dependency are determined by our state-of-the-art multi wavelength PAS instrument (4λ-PAS) and multi wavelength cosinus sensor (Aurora 3000). The quantified wavelength dependency (AAE and SAE) are deduced from the measured data. Finally, some correlation between the proximate and ultimate chemical as well as the measured or deduced optical parameters are also revealed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=absorption" title="absorption">absorption</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=scattering" title=" scattering"> scattering</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=residential%20coal" title=" residential coal"> residential coal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aerosol%20generation%20by%20laser%20ablation" title=" aerosol generation by laser ablation"> aerosol generation by laser ablation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40409/spectral-responses-of-the-laser-generated-coal-aerosol" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40409.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">361</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2297</span> A Posteriori Analysis of the Spectral Element Discretization of Heat Equation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chor%20Nejmeddine">Chor Nejmeddine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ines%20Ben%20Omrane"> Ines Ben Omrane</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Abdelwahed"> Mohamed Abdelwahed</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, we present a posteriori analysis of the discretization of the heat equation by spectral element method. Then, using the uniqueness theorems of analytic functions, we guarantee that the operator L has a finite number of eigenvalues and spectral singularities. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=asymptotics" title="asymptotics">asymptotics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=continuous%20spectrum" title=" continuous spectrum"> continuous spectrum</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=difference%20equations" title=" difference equations"> difference equations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=eigenvalues" title=" eigenvalues"> eigenvalues</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=jost%20functions" title=" jost functions"> jost functions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectral%20singularities" title=" spectral singularities"> spectral singularities</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32256/matrix-valued-difference-equations-with-spectral-singularities" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32256.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">446</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2294</span> A Novel Spectral Index for Automatic Shadow Detection in Urban Mapping Based on WorldView-2 Satellite Imagery</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kaveh%20Shahi">Kaveh Shahi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Helmi%20Z.%20M.%20Shafri"> Helmi Z. It is caused by objects which are elevated, thus can directly affect the accuracy of information. For these reasons, it is very important to detect shadows particularly in urban high spatial resolution imagery which created a significant problem. This paper focuses on automatic shadow detection based on a new spectral index for multispectral imagery known as Shadow Detection Index (SDI). The new spectral index was tested on different areas of World-View 2 images and the results demonstrated that the new spectral index has a massive potential to extract shadows effectively and automatically. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectral%20index" title="spectral index">spectral index</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shadow%20detection" title=" shadow detection"> shadow detection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=remote%20sensing%20images" title=" remote sensing images"> remote sensing images</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=World-View%202" title=" World-View 2"> World-View 2</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/13500/a-novel-spectral-index-for-automatic-shadow-detection-in-urban-mapping-based-on-worldview-2-satellite-imagery" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/13500.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">538</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2293</span> Vulnerability Assessment of Reinforced Concrete Frames Based on Inelastic Spectral Displacement</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chao%20Xu">Chao Xu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Selecting ground motion intensity measures reasonably is one of the very important issues to affect the input ground motions selecting and the reliability of vulnerability analysis results. In this paper, inelastic spectral displacement is used as an alternative intensity measure to characterize the ground motion damage potential. The inelastic spectral displacement is calculated based modal pushover analysis and inelastic spectral displacement based incremental dynamic analysis is developed. Probability seismic demand analysis of a six story and an eleven story RC frame are carried out through cloud analysis and advanced incremental dynamic analysis. The sufficiency and efficiency of inelastic spectral displacement are investigated by means of regression and residual analysis, and compared with elastic spectral displacement. Vulnerability curves are developed based on inelastic spectral displacement. The study shows that inelastic spectral displacement reflects the impact of different frequency components with periods larger than fundamental period on inelastic structural response. The damage potential of ground motion on structures with fundamental period prolonging caused by structural soften can be caught by inelastic spectral displacement. To be compared with elastic spectral displacement, inelastic spectral displacement is a more sufficient and efficient intensity measure, which reduces the uncertainty of vulnerability analysis and the impact of input ground motion selection on vulnerability analysis result. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vulnerability" title="vulnerability">vulnerability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=probability%20seismic%20demand%20analysis" title=" probability seismic demand analysis"> probability seismic demand analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ground%20motion%20intensity%20measure" title=" ground motion intensity measure"> ground motion intensity measure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sufficiency" title=" sufficiency"> sufficiency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=efficiency" title=" efficiency"> efficiency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inelastic%20time%20history%20analysis" title=" inelastic time history analysis"> inelastic time history analysis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/48653/vulnerability-assessment-of-reinforced-concrete-frames-based-on-inelastic-spectral-displacement" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/48653.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">353</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2292</span> Investigating the Potential of Spectral Bands in the Detection of Heavy Metals in Soil</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Golayeh%20Yousefi">Golayeh Yousefi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mehdi%20Homaee"> Mehdi Homaee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ali%20Akbar%20Norouzi"> Ali Akbar Norouzi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Ongoing monitoring of soil contamination by heavy metals is critical for ecosystem stability and environmental protection, and food security. The conventional methods of determining these soil contaminants are time-consuming and costly. Spectroscopy in the visible near-infrared (VNIR) - short wave infrared (SWIR) region is a rapid, non-destructive, noninvasive, and cost-effective method for assessment of soil heavy metals concentration by studying the spectral properties of soil constituents. The aim of this study is to derive spectral bands and important ranges that are sensitive to heavy metals and can be used to estimate the concentration of these soil contaminants. In other words, the change in the spectral properties of spectrally active constituents of soil can lead to the accurate identification and estimation of the concentration of these compounds in soil. For this purpose, 325 soil samples were collected, and their spectral reflectance curves were evaluated at a range of 350-2500 nm. After spectral preprocessing operations, the partial least-squares regression (PLSR) model was fitted on spectral data to predict the concentration of Cu and Ni. Based on the results, the spectral range of Cu- sensitive spectra were 480, 580-610, 1370, 1425, 1850, 1920, 2145, and 2200 nm, and Ni-sensitive ranges were 543, 655, 761, 1003, 1271, 1415, 1903, 2199 nm. Finally, the results of this study indicated that the spectral data contains a lot of information that can be applied to identify the soil properties, such as the concentration of heavy metals, with more detail. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heavy%20metals" title="heavy metals">heavy metals</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectroscopy" title=" spectroscopy"> spectroscopy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectral%20bands" title=" spectral bands"> spectral bands</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PLS%20regression" title=" PLS regression"> PLS regression</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/160387/investigating-the-potential-of-spectral-bands-in-the-detection-of-heavy-metals-in-soil" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/160387.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">84</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2291</span> Spectral Domain Fast Multipole Method for Solving Integral Equations of One and Two Dimensional Wave Scattering </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Ahmad">Mohammad Ahmad</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dayalan%20Kasilingam"> Dayalan Kasilingam</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, a spectral domain implementation of the fast multipole method is presented. In addition, heat generation/absorption and Joule heating effects are taken into consideration. The similarity solution does not exist for this complex fluid flow problem, and hence non-similarity transformations are used to convert the governing fluid flow equations along with related boundary conditions into a set of nondimensional partial differential equations. Many authors have been applied the spectral quasi-linearization method to solve the ordinary differential equations, but here the resulting nonlinear partial differential equations are solved for non-similarity solution by using a recently developed method called the spectral quasi-linearization method (SQLM). Comparison with previously published work on special cases of the problem is performed and found to be in excellent agreement. The effect of pertinent parameters namely, Biot number, mixed convection parameter, heat generation/absorption, Joule heating, Forchheimer number, chemical reaction, micropolar and magnetic field on physical quantities of the flow are displayed through graphs and the salient features are explored in detail. Further, the results are analyzed by comparing with two special cases, namely, vertical plate and full cone wherever possible. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chemical%20reaction" title="chemical reaction">chemical reaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=convective%20boundary%20condition" title=" convective boundary condition"> convective boundary condition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=joule%20heating" title=" joule heating"> joule heating</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=micropolar%20fluid" title=" micropolar fluid"> micropolar fluid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mixed%20convection" title=" mixed convection"> mixed convection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectral%20quasi-linearization%20method" title=" spectral quasi-linearization method"> spectral quasi-linearization method</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54884/influence-of-convective-boundary-condition-on-chemically-reacting-micropolar-fluid-flow-over-a-truncated-cone-embedded-in-porous-medium" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/54884.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">277</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2289</span> Surface Topography Measurement by Confocal Spectral Interferometry</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20Manallah">A. Confocal optical system images at each instant a single point of the sample. The whole surface is reconstructed by plan scanning. The interference signal generated by mixing two white-light beams is analyzed using a spectrometer. In this work, five ‘rugotests’ of known standard roughnesses are investigated. The topography is then measured and illustrated, and the equivalent roughness is determined and compared with the standard values. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=confocal%20spectral%20interferometry" title="confocal spectral interferometry">confocal spectral interferometry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nondestructive%20testing" title=" nondestructive testing"> nondestructive testing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optical%20metrology" title=" optical metrology"> optical metrology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=surface%20topography" title=" surface topography"> surface topography</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=roughness" title=" roughness"> roughness</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/70452/surface-topography-measurement-by-confocal-spectral-interferometry" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/70452.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">276</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2288</span> Non-Destructive Prediction System Using near Infrared Spectroscopy for Crude Palm Oil</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Siti%20Nurhidayah%20Naqiah%20Abdull%20Rani">Siti Nurhidayah Naqiah Abdull Rani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Herlina%20Abdul%20Rahim"> Herlina Abdul Rahim</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy has always been of great interest in the food and agriculture industries. Multilayer porous materials are dominant in room absorber. Multilayer viscoelastic materials are the basic parts in underwater absorption coating. In most cases, the one-way sound absorption performance of multilayer material is concentrated according to the sound source site. But the two-way sound absorption performance is also necessary to be known in some special cases which sound is produced in both sides of the material and the both sides especially might contact with different media. In this article, this kind of case was research. The multilayer material was composed of viscoelastic layer and steel plate and the porous layer. The two sides of multilayer material contact with water and air, respectively. A theory model was given to describe the sound propagation and impedance in multilayer absorption material. The two-way sound absorption properties of several multilayer materials were calculated whose two sides all contacted with different media. The calculated results showed that the difference of two-way sound absorption coefficients is obvious. The frequency, the relation of layers thickness and parameters of multilayer materials all have an influence on the two-way sound absorption coefficients. But the degrees of influence are varied. All these simulation results were analyzed in the article. It was obtained that two-way sound absorption at different frequencies can be promoted by optimizing the configuration parameters. This work will improve the performance of underwater sound absorption coating which can absorb incident sound from the water and reduce the noise radiation from inside space. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=different%20media" title="different media">different media</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multilayer%20material" title=" multilayer material"> multilayer material</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sound%20absorption%20coating" title=" sound absorption coating"> sound absorption coating</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=two-way%20sound%20absorption" title=" two-way sound absorption"> two-way sound absorption</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/33628/research-on-the-two-way-sound-absorption-performance-of-multilayer-material" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/33628.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">542</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2284</span> Study on Energy Absorption Characteristic of Cab Frame with FEM</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shigeyuki%20Haruyama">Shigeyuki Haruyama</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Oke%20Oktavianty"> Oke Oktavianty</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zefry%20Darmawan"> Zefry Darmawan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tadayuki%20Kyoutani"> Tadayuki Kyoutani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ken%20Kaminishi"> Ken Kaminishi </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Cab’s frame strength is considered as an important factor in excavator’s operator safety, especially during roll-over. In this study, we use a model of cab frame with different thicknesses and perform elastoplastic numerical analysis by using Finite Element Method (FEM). Deformation mode and energy absorption's of cab’s frame part are investigated on two conditions, with wrinkle and without wrinkle. The occurrence of wrinkle when deforming cab frame can reduce energy absorption, and among 4 parts with wrinkle, the energy absorption significantly decreases in part C. Residual stress that generated upon the bending process of part C is analyzed to confirm it possibility in increasing the energy absorption. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ROPS" title="ROPS">ROPS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=FEM" title=" FEM"> FEM</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hydraulic%20excavator" title=" hydraulic excavator"> hydraulic excavator</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cab%20frame" title=" cab frame"> cab frame</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/42428/study-on-energy-absorption-characteristic-of-cab-frame-with-fem" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/42428.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">430</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2283</span> A Time-Varying and Non-Stationary Convolution Spectral Mixture Kernel for Gaussian Process</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kai%20Chen">Kai Chen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shuguang%20Cui"> Shuguang Cui</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Feng%20Yin"> Feng Yin</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Gaussian process (GP) with spectral mixture (SM) kernel demonstrates flexible non-parametric Bayesian learning ability in modeling unknown function. In this work a novel time-varying and non-stationary convolution spectral mixture (TN-CSM) kernel with a significant enhancing of interpretability by using process convolution is introduced. A way decomposing the SM component into an auto-convolution of base SM component and parameterizing it to be input dependent is outlined. Smoothly, performing a convolution between two base SM component yields a novel structure of non-stationary SM component with much better generalized expression and interpretation. The TN-CSM perfectly allows compatibility with the stationary SM kernel in terms of kernel form and spectral base ignored and confused by previous non-stationary kernels. On synthetic and real-world datatsets, experiments show the time-varying characteristics of hyper-parameters in TN-CSM and compare the learning performance of TN-CSM with popular and representative non-stationary GP. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gaussian%20process" title="Gaussian process">Gaussian process</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectral%20mixture" title=" spectral mixture"> spectral mixture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-stationary" title=" non-stationary"> non-stationary</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=convolution" title=" convolution"> convolution</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/131675/a-time-varying-and-non-stationary-convolution-spectral-mixture-kernel-for-gaussian-process" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/131675.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">196</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2282</span> Polymer Solar Cells Synthesized with Copper Oxide Nanoparticles</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nidal%20H.%20Abu-Zahra">Nidal H. The inherent electrical characteristics of CuO nano particles make them attractive candidates for improving the performance of polymer solar cells when incorporated into the active polymer layer. The UV-visible absorption spectra and external quantum efficiency of P3HT/PC70BM solar cells containing different weight percentages of CuO nano particles showed a clear enhancement in the photo absorption of the active layer, this increased the power conversion efficiency of the solar cells by 24% in comparison to the reference cell. The short circuit current of the reference cell was found to be 5.234 mA/cm2 and it seemed to increase to 6.484 mA/cm2 in cells containing 0.6 mg of CuO NPs; in addition the fill factor increased from 61.15% to 68.0%, showing an enhancement of 11.2%. These observations suggest that the optimum concentration of CuO nano particles was 0.6 mg in the active layer. These significant findings can be applied to design high-efficiency polymer solar cells containing inorganic nano particles. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
