This study was conducted in 2021, with an objective to understand to understand the use of social media by farmers and to analyze its relationship with economic profile characteristic. The data were collected personally from Hisar and Sonipat districts of Haryana, with a sample size of 200 respondents comprising 25 farmers from eight villages through a structured interview sched ule. Findings revealed that 69.00 per cent of the respondents were in medium category of social media use. Garrett ranking analysis revealed that watching videos was the most pre ferred purpose of social media use among farmers followed by chatting/ connecting with peers. The perception of farmers is the product of their personal, social, psychological and economic background. Social media is one such new innovation which is spreading rapidly in rural areas and has transformed the communication process. The present study was conducted in Hisar and Sonipat districts of Haryana, with an objective to analyze the relationship between socio-personal traits of farmers with their perception towards social media. The data were collected personally from 200 respondents comprising 25 farmers from eight selected villages through a structured interview schedule. Findings revealed that 59 per cent of the farmers had neutral perception towards social media followed by 25.50 per cent farmers who had favourable perception. Further, analyses of the relationship between perception and profile of farmers revealed that, education, landholding, family income, cosmopoliteness-localiteness, mass media exposure, social participation, extension contact and extension participation were positively correlated with perception towards social media. Farmers are also actively using social media for seeking and sharing information related to agriculture through various social media platforms. However, farmers often encounter several constraints in leveraging these technology platforms effectively. This research investigated the multifaceted challenges faced by farmers in utilizing social media for agricultural purposes. The present study was conducted in one district (U.S. Nagar) of Uttarakhand, known as the food bowl of the state with the objective to find out farmers’ usage pattern of social media and identify constraints faced by the farmers in accessing and using the social media. The study followed an exploratory research and the study sample comprised of purposively selected 200 farmers (those who owned a smartphone) spread over eight villages. The data was collected using a pre-tested structured interview schedule. The study findings revealed that the primary constraints faced by respondents in using social media were lack of awareness about useful websites and mobile apps, poor digital literacy, and poor competency in its use. Further, it also revealed that while younger, more educated farmers tend to use social media more readily, older and rural farmers face substantial hurdles. The study underscores the need for targeted interventions, including digital literacy programs, infrastructure improvements, and the creation of relevant, localized content to enhance social media&#39;s utility in agriculture. The current study was therefore attempted to ascertain the extent of use of various social media platforms by the farmers. The study was conducted in two Upazilas viz. Sreepur and Gazipur Sadar Upazila of Gazipur district. A total of 100 farmers were selected as a sample of the study following a proportionate random sampling technique. Four-fifths (80.0%) of them reflected poor to moderate knowledge on social media use. Among the digital social media knowledge on smartphones ranked first. The use of different social media by the majority (84.0%) of respondents was impressive where 33.0 percent had low use and 51.0 percent moderate. Watching the Hridoye Mati O Manush program on Facebook / YouTube ranked 1 st position for using agricultural purposes. In the case of non-agricultural purposes, the use of Messenger / Imo / WhatsApp to communicate with relatives/Friends ranked in 1 st position. Moreover, around half of the respondents (51.0%) preferred Facebook among other social media due to its multidimentional usage. The majority of the respondents showed as moderate users (4-9 years) of different social media using experiences. The vital preference of using social media is to communicate with others followed by entertainment and ease of handling. Level of education, farm size, and annual income showed positive significant relationship with the extent of use of different social media by the farmers while age and farming experience indicated a negative significant relationship. The sample volume was determined as 80 according to the stratified random sampling method, with a 95% confidence interval and with a 5% margin of error. Factor analysis was conducted to determine the farmers&#39; social media usage purposes. Factor analysis was conducted on 19 independent variables and 3 independent variables were identified to determine the reasons for using social media. These variables are called professional development, socialization, and communication. The relationship between professional development, socialization, and communication variables and social media platforms was determined by linear regression analysis. For platforms used for socialization purposes, it was found that Facebook was statistically significant at 1% and Instagram was 5%. According to the regression analysis, platforms used for vocational development purposes, it was found that WhatsApp was statistically significant at 1% and YouTube was 5%. In social media, training, extension, projects, and promotions should be more widely supported in order to support the professional training of enterprises.
