And his mother’s<MH517> name<MH8034> <i>was</i> Abijah<MH29>, the daughter<MH1323> of Zechariah<MH2148a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>He did<MH6213a> what<MH3477> was<MH3477> right<MH3477> in the sight<MH5869> of the LORD<MH3068>, in accordance with everything<MH3605> that his father<MH1> David<MH1732> had done<MH6213a>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>In the first<MH7223> year<MH8141> of his reign<MH4427a>, in the first<MH7223> month<MH2320>, he opened<MH6605a> the doors<MH1817> of the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068> and repaired<MH2388> them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>He brought<MH935> in<MH935> the priests<MH3548> and the Levites<MH3881> and gathered<MH622> them into the public<MH7339> square<MH7339> on the east<MH4217>. <p class="hdg">Reforms Begun</p><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Then he said<MH559> to them, “Listen<MH8085> to me, you Levites<MH3881>. Consecrate<MH6942> yourselves now<MH6258>, and consecrate<MH6942> the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068>, the God<MH430> of your fathers<MH1>, and carry<MH3318> the uncleanness<MH5079> out<MH3318> of the holy<MH6944> place. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>For our fathers<MH1> have been<MH4603> unfaithful<MH4603> and have done<MH6213a> evil<MH7451a> in the sight<MH5869> of the LORD<MH3068> our God<MH430>, and they have abandoned<MH5800a> Him and turned<MH5437> their faces<MH6440> away<MH5437> from the dwelling<MH4908> place<MH4908> of the LORD<MH3068>, and have <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>turned<MH5414> <i>their</i> backs<MH6203>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>They have also<MH1571> shut<MH5462> the doors<MH1817> of the porch<MH197> and extinguished<MH3518> the lamps<MH5216>, and have not burned<MH6999> incense<MH7004> nor offered<MH5927> burnt<MH5930a> offerings<MH5930a> in the holy<MH6944> place to the God<MH430> of Israel<MH3478>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Therefore the wrath<MH7110a> of the LORD<MH3068> was against<MH5921> Judah<MH3063> and Jerusalem<MH3389>, and He has made<MH5414> them an object<MH2113> of<MH2113> terror<MH2113>, of horror<MH8047>, and of hissing<MH8322>, as you see<MH7200> with your own eyes<MH5869>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>For behold<MH2009>, our fathers<MH1> have fallen<MH5307> by the sword<MH2719>, and our sons<MH1121>, our daughters<MH1323>, and our wives<MH802> are in captivity<MH7628b> because<MH5921> of this<MH2088>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Now<MH6258> it is in my heart<MH3824> to make<MH3772> a covenant<MH1285> with the LORD<MH3068> God<MH430> of Israel<MH3478>, so that His burning<MH2740> anger<MH639> may turn<MH7725> away<MH7725> from us. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>My sons<MH1121>, do not be<MH7951> negligent<MH7951> now<MH6258>, for the LORD<MH3068> has chosen<MH977> you to stand<MH5975> before<MH6440> Him, to serve<MH8334> Him, and to be His ministers<MH8334> and burn<MH6999> incense<MH6999>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Then the Levites<MH3881> arose<MH6965>: Mahath<MH4287> the son<MH1121> of Amasai<MH6022> and Joel<MH3100> the son<MH1121> of Azariah<MH5838>, from the sons<MH1121> of the Kohathites<MH6956>; and from the sons<MH1121> of Merari<MH4847>, Kish<MH7027> the son<MH1121> of Abdi<MH5660> and Azariah<MH5838> the son<MH1121> of Jehallelel<MH3094>; and from the Gershonites<MH1649>, Joah<MH3098> the son<MH1121> of Zimmah<MH2155> and Eden<MH5730b> the son<MH1121> of Joah<MH3098>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>and from the sons<MH1121> of Elizaphan<MH469>, Shimri<MH8113> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>Jeiel<MH3262>; and from the sons<MH1121> of Asaph<MH623>, Zechariah<MH2148a> and Mattaniah<MH4983>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>and from the sons<MH1121> of Heman<MH1968>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>Jehiel<MH3171> and Shimei<MH8096>; and from the sons<MH1121> of Jeduthun<MH3038>, Shemaiah<MH8098> and Uzziel<MH5816>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>They assembled<MH622> their brothers<MH251>, consecrated<MH6942> themselves, and went<MH935> in<MH935> to cleanse<MH2891> the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068>, according to the commandment<MH4687> of the king<MH4428> by the words<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>So the priests<MH3548> went<MH935> into the inner<MH6441> part<MH6441> of the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068> to cleanse<MH2891> <i>it,</i> and they brought<MH3318> every<MH3605> unclean<MH2932a> thing<MH2932a> which<MH834> they found<MH4672> in the temple<MH1964> of the LORD<MH3068> out<MH3318> to the courtyard<MH2691a> of the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068>. Then the Levites<MH3881> received<MH6901> <i>it</i> to carry<MH3318> out<MH3318> to the Kidron<MH6939> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>Valley<MH5158a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Now they began<MH2490c> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>the consecration<MH6942> on the first<MH259> <i>day</i> of the first<MH7223> month<MH2320>, and on the eighth<MH8083> day<MH3117> of the month<MH2320> they entered<MH935> the porch<MH197> of the LORD<MH3068>. Then they consecrated<MH6942> the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068> in eight<MH8083> days<MH3117>, and finished<MH3615> on the sixteenth<MH8337a, 6240> day<MH3117> of the first<MH7223> month<MH2320>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Then they went<MH935> in<MH935> to King<MH4428> Hezekiah<MH2396> and said<MH559>, “We have cleansed<MH2891> the whole<MH3605> house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068>, the altar<MH4196> of burnt<MH5930a> offering<MH5930a> with all<MH3605> its utensils<MH3627>, and the table<MH7979> of the showbread<MH4635> with all<MH3605> of its utensils<MH3627>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Moreover, all<MH3605> the utensils<MH3627> which<MH834> King<MH4428> Ahaz<MH271> had discarded<MH2186a> during his reign<MH4438> in his unfaithfulness<MH4604>, we have prepared<MH3559> and consecrated<MH6942>; and behold<MH2009>, they are before<MH6440> the altar<MH4196> of the LORD<MH3068>.” <p class="hdg">Hezekiah Restores Temple Worship</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Then King<MH4428> Hezekiah<MH2396> got<MH7925> up<MH7925> early<MH7925> and assembled<MH622> the princes<MH8269> of the city<MH5892b>, and went<MH5927> up<MH5927> to the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>They brought<MH935> seven<MH7651> bulls<MH6499>, seven<MH7651> rams<MH352a>, seven<MH7651> lambs<MH3532>, and seven<MH7651> male<MH6842> goats<MH5795> as a sin<MH2403b> offering<MH2403b> for the kingdom<MH4467>, the sanctuary<MH4720>, and Judah<MH3063>. And he ordered<MH559> the priests<MH3548>, the sons<MH1121> of Aaron<MH175>, to offer<MH5927> <i>them</i> on the altar<MH4196> of the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>So they slaughtered<MH7819> the bulls<MH1241>, and the priests<MH3548> took<MH6901> the blood<MH1818> and sprinkled<MH2236b> it on the altar<MH4196>. They also slaughtered<MH7819> the rams<MH352a> and sprinkled<MH2236b> the blood<MH1818> on the altar<MH4196>; they slaughtered<MH7819> the lambs<MH3532> as well, and sprinkled<MH2236b> the blood<MH1818> on the altar<MH4196>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>Then they brought<MH5066> the male<MH8163b> goats<MH8163b> of the sin<MH2403b> offering<MH2403b> before<MH6440> the king<MH4428> and the assembly<MH6951>, and they laid<MH5564> their hands<MH3027> on them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>The priests<MH3548> slaughtered<MH7819> them and purified<MH2398> the altar<MH4196> with their blood<MH1818> to atone<MH3722a> for all<MH3605> Israel<MH3478>, because<MH3588> the king<MH4428> ordered<MH559> the burnt<MH5930a> offering<MH5930a> and the sin<MH2403b> offering<MH2403b> for all<MH3605> Israel<MH3478>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>He then stationed<MH5975> the Levites<MH3881> in the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068> with cymbals<MH4700>, harps<MH5035b>, and lyres<MH3658>, according to the command<MH4687> of David<MH1732> and of Gad<MH1410>, the king’s<MH4428> seer<MH2374>, and of Nathan<MH5416> the prophet<MH5030>; for the command<MH4687> was from the LORD<MH3068> through<MH3027> His prophets<MH5030>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>The Levites<MH3881> stood<MH5975> with the <i>musical</i> instruments<MH3627> of David<MH1732>, and the priests<MH3548> with the trumpets<MH2689>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>Then Hezekiah<MH2396> gave<MH559> the<MH559> order<MH559> to offer<MH5927> the burnt<MH5930a> offering<MH5930a> on the altar<MH4196>. When<MH6256> the burnt<MH5930a> offering<MH5930a> began<MH2490c>, the song<MH7892a> to the LORD<MH3068> <i>also</i> began<MH2490c> with the trumpets<MH2689>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span><i>accompanied</i> by the instruments<MH3627> of David<MH1732>, king<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>While the whole<MH3605> assembly<MH6951> worshiped<MH2331c>, the singers<MH7892a> also sang<MH7891> and the trumpets<MH2689> sounded<MH2690>; all<MH3605> this <i>continued</i> until<MH5704> the burnt<MH5930a> offering<MH5930a> was finished<MH3615>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>Now at the completion<MH3615> of the burnt<MH5927> offerings<MH5927>, the king<MH4428> and all<MH3605> who were<MH4672> present<MH4672> with him bowed<MH3766> down<MH3766> and worshiped<MH2331c>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>Moreover, King<MH4428> Hezekiah<MH2396> and the officials<MH8269> ordered<MH559> the Levites<MH3881> to sing<MH1984b> praises<MH1984b> to the LORD<MH3068> with the words<MH1697> of David<MH1732> and Asaph<MH623> the seer<MH2374>. So they sang<MH1984b> praises<MH1984b> with joy<MH8057>, and bowed<MH6915> down<MH6915> and worshiped<MH2331c>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>Then Hezekiah<MH2396> said<MH559>, “Now<MH6258> <i>that</i> you have <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>consecrated<MH4390, 3027> yourselves<MH3027> to the LORD<MH3068>, come<MH5066> forward<MH5066> and bring<MH935> sacrifices<MH2077> and thanksgiving<MH8426> offerings<MH8426> to the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068>.” So the assembly<MH6951> brought<MH935> sacrifices<MH2077> and thanksgiving<MH8426> offerings<MH8426>, and everyone<MH3605> who was <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>willing<MH5081, 3820> <i>brought</i> burnt<MH5930a> offerings<MH5930a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>The number<MH4557> of the burnt<MH5930a> offerings<MH5930a> which<MH834> the assembly<MH6951> brought<MH935> was seventy<MH7657> bulls<MH1241>, a hundred<MH3967> rams<MH352a>, and two<MH3967> hundred<MH3967> lambs<MH3532>; all<MH3605> of these<MH428> were for a burnt<MH5930a> offering<MH5930a> to the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>The consecrated<MH6944> <i>offerings</i> were six<MH8337a> hundred<MH3967> bulls<MH1241> and three<MH7969> thousand<MH505> sheep<MH6629>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>But the priests<MH3548> were too few<MH4592>, so that they were<MH3201> unable<MH3808, 3201> to skin<MH6584> all<MH3605> the burnt<MH5930a> offerings<MH5930a>; therefore their brothers<MH251> the Levites<MH3881> helped<MH2388> them until<MH5704> the work<MH4399> was finished<MH3615> and the <i>other</i> priests<MH3548> had consecrated<MH6942> themselves. For the Levites<MH3881> were more<MH4480> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>conscientious<MH3477, 3824> to consecrate<MH6942> themselves than<MH4480> the priests<MH3548>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/29-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>There <i>were</i> also<MH1571> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>many<MH7230> burnt<MH5930a> offerings<MH5930a> with the fat<MH2459> of the peace<MH8002> offerings<MH8002> and the drink<MH5262a> offerings<MH5262a> for the burnt<MH5930a> offerings<MH5930a>.
