And his mother's name Jehoaddan, from Jerusalem. <A name="4"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>And he will do the straight in the eyes of Jehovah, but not according to David his father: he did according to all which his father Joash: did. <A name="5"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>But the heights were not turned away: the people yet sacrificing and burning incense in the heights. <A name="6"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>And it will be when the kingdom was strengthened in his hand, and he will smite his servants striking the king his father. <A name="7"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>The sons of those striking he put not to death: according as it was written in the book of the Laws of Moses which Jehovah commanded, saying, Fathers shall not be put to death for sons, and sons shall not be put to death for fathers; but a man shall be put to death in his sin.<p> <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>He struck Edom in the valley of salt, ten thousand; and he seized the rock in war, and he will call its name Joktheel, even to this day.<p> <A name="9"></a><p class="hdg">Jehoash Defeats Amaziah<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../2_chronicles/25.htm#17">2 Chronicles 25:17&#8211;24</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu king of Israel, saying, Come, we will see faces. <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And Jehoash king of Israel will send to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thorn-bush which was in Lebanon sent to the cedar which was in Lebanon, saying, Thou shalt give thy daughter to my son for a wife: and a beast of the field which was in Lebanon will pass by and will tread down the thorn-bush. <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Striking, thou struckest Edom, and thy heart lifted thee up: be honored, and sit in thy house: and wherefore wilt thou contend with evil, and fall, thou and Judah with thee?<p> <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And Amaziah heard not And Jehoash king of Israel will come up, and they will see faces, he and Amaziah king of Judah, in the house of the sun, which was to Judah. <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And Judah will be smitten before Israel; and they will flee a man to his tent. <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And Jehoash king of Israel seized Amaziah king of Judah, son of Jehoash son of Ahaziah, in the house of the sun; and he will come to Jerusalem, and he will break in the wall of Jerusalem in the gate of Ephraim, even to the gate of the corner, four hundred cubits. <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And he took all the gold and the silver and all the vessels being found in the house of Jehovah, and in the treasures of the king's house, and the sons of suretyship, and he will turn back to Shomeron.<p> <A name="16"></a><p class="hdg">Jeroboam II Succeeds Jehoash in Israel<p><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And the rest of the words or Johoash which he did, and his power and how he warred with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written upon the book of the words of the days to the kings of Israel? <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And Jehoash will lie down with his fathers, and he will be buried in Shomeron with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son will reign in his stead.<p> <A name="18"></a><p class="hdg">The Death of Amaziah<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../2_chronicles/25.htm#25">2 Chronicles 25:25&#8211;28</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah, will live after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel, fifteen years. <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And the rest of the words of Amaziah, are they not written in the book of the words of the days to the kings of Judah. <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And they will conspire against him a conspiracy in Jerusalem, and he will flee to Lachish; and they will send after him to Lachish, and kill him there. <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And they will lift him up upon horses; and he will be buried in Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David. <A name="22"></a><p class="hdg">Azariah Succeeds Amaziah in Judah<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../2_chronicles/26.htm">2 Chronicles 26:1&#8211;2</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And all the people of Judah will take Azariah, and he the son of sixteen years, and they will make him king instead of his father Amaziah. <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>He built Elath, and he will turn it back to Judah; afterwards the king will lie down with his fathers.<p> <A name="24"></a><p class="hdg">Jeroboam II Reigns in Israel<p><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>In the year the fifteenth year to Amaziah, son of Joash king of Judah; Jeroboam son of Joash king or Israel reigned in Shomeron forty and one years. <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And he will do evil in the eyes of Jehovah he turned not away from all the sins of Jeroboam son or Nebat, who caused Israel to sin. <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>He turned back the bound of Israel from the entrance of Hamath, even to the sea of the sterile region, according to the word of Jehovah the God of Israel which he spake by the hand of his servant Jonah, the son of Amittai the prophet, which was of the winepress of the pit. <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>For Jehovah saw the affliction of Israel exceedingly bitter, and none shut up, and none left, and no helper to Israel. <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>And Jehovah spake not to wipe away the name of Israel from under the heavens: and he will save them by the hand of Jeroboam son of Joash.<p> <A name="29"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/14-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>And the rest of the words of Jeroboam, and all which he did, and his powers, how he warred, and how he turned back Damascus and Hamath to Judah in Israel, are they not written upon the book of the words of the days to the kings of Israel?
