<A name="5"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/7-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>and, <i>coming</i> from the marketplace, unless they immerse themselves, they do not eat; and there are many other things which they received to hold; <i>as</i>, immersion of cups, and pots, and brazen vessels. <A name="6"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/7-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>And the Pharisees and the scribes ask Him, "Why do not Thy disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with defiled hands?"<p> <A name="7"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/7-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And He said to them, <FR>"Well did Isaiah prophesy concerning you hypocrites, as it has been written, This people honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from Me.<Fr><p> <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/7-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span><FR>But in vain do they worship Me, teaching <i>as their</i> doctrines the precepts of men.<Fr><p> <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/7-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span><FR>Having left the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men."<Fr><p> <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/7-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And He said to them, <FR>"Well do ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may hold your tradition!<Fr> <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/7-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span><FR>For Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother,' and 'He that speaks evil of father or mother, let him surely die.'<Fr> <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/7-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span><FR>But ye say, 'If a man say to his father or mother, That wherewith you might be profited by me is Corban,' that is, 'an offering <i>to God</i>,'<Fr> <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/7-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span><FR>ye no longer suffer him to do anything for his father or his mother;<Fr> <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/7-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span><FR>making void the word of God by your tradition, which ye handed down; and many such things ye do."<Fr><p> <A name="15"></a><p class="hdg">What Defiles a Man<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/15.htm#10">Matthew 15:10&#8211;20</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/7-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And, again calling the multitude, He said to them, <FR>"Hear Me, all of you, and understand:<Fr> <A name=""></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/7-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span><FR>there is nothing from without the man, that, entering into him, can defile him; but the things proceeding out of the man are those that defile the man."<Fr> <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/7-15.htm"><b>16</b></a></span><i>OMITTED TEXT.</i><p> <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/7-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And, when He entered into the house from the multitude, His disciples asked of Him the parable. <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/7-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And He saith to them, <FR>"Are ye too thus without understanding? Do ye not perceive that nothing, entering into a man from without, can defile him;<Fr> <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/7-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span><FR>because it goes not into his heart, but into the belly, and passes out into the drain?" <i>This He said</i>, making all foods clean.<Fr> <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/7-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And He said, <FR>"That which proceeds out of the man, that defiles the man.<Fr> <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/7-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span><FR>For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries,<Fr> <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/7-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span><FR>covetings, wickednesses, deceit, wantonness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:<Fr> <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/7-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span><FR>all these evil things proceed from within, and defile the man."<Fr><p> <A name="25"></a><p class="hdg">The Faith of the Gentile Woman<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/15.htm#21">Matthew 15:21&#8211;28</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/7-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And, rising up, He went thence into the borders of Tyre and Sidon; and, entering into a house, He wished no one to know it. And He could not be hid. <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/7-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>But straightway a woman, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having heard of Him, coming, fell down at His feet. <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/7-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>And the woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by race.
