husband<MG435> of one<MG1520> wife<MG1135>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>temperate<MG3524>, self-controlled<MG4998>, respectable<MG2887>, hospitable<MG5382>, skillful<MG1317> in<MG1317> teaching<MG1317>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/3-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>not overindulging<MG3943> in<MG3943> wine<MG3943>, not<MG3361> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>a bully<MG4131>, but gentle<MG1933>, not<MG269> contentious<MG269>, free<MG866> from<MG866> the<MG866> love<MG866> of<MG866> money<MG866>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/3-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span><i>He must be</i> one who manages<MG4291b> his own<MG2398> household<MG3624> well<MG2573>, keeping<MG2192> his children<MG5043> under<MG1722> href="/1_timothy/3-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span><i>and</i> not a new<MG3504> convert<MG3504>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> he will not become conceited<MG5187> and fall<MG1706> into condemnation<MG2917> <span reputation<MG3141> with those<MG3588> outside<MG1855> <i>the church,</i> so<MG2443> that<MG2443> he will not fall<MG1706> into <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>disgrace<MG3680> and the snare<MG3803> of the devil<MG1228>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/3-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Deacons<MG1249> likewise<MG5615> <i>must be</i> men<MG4586> of<MG4586> dignity<MG4586>, not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>insincere<MG1351>, not prone<MG4337> to<MG4337> <i>drink</i> much<MG4183> wine<MG3631>, not greedy<MG146> for<MG146> money<MG146>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/3-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span><i>but</i> holding<MG2192> to the mystery<MG3466> of the faith<MG4102> with a clear<MG2513> conscience<MG4893>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_timothy/3-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>These<MG3778> men<MG3778> must also<MG2532> first<MG4413> be tested<MG1381a>; then<MG1534> have them serve<MG1247> as<MG1247> <i>must</i> likewise<MG5615> <i>be</i> dignified<MG4586>, not malicious<MG1228> gossips<MG1228>, but <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>temperate<MG3524>, faithful<MG4103> in all<MG3956>
