And Isaiah<MH3470b> the prophet<MH5030>, the son<MH1121> of Amoz<MH531>, came<MH935> to him and said<MH559> to him, &#8220;This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> says<MH559>: &#8216;Set<MH6680> your house<MH1004> in<MH6680> order<MH6680>, for you are going to die<MH4191> and not live<MH2421a>.&#8217;&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/38-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>Then Hezekiah<MH2396> turned<MH5437> his face<MH6440> to the wall<MH7023> and prayed<MH6419> to the LORD<MH3068>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/38-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>and said<MH559>, &#8220;Please<MH577>, LORD<MH3068>, just<MH4994> remember<MH2142> how<MH834> I have walked<MH1980> before<MH6440> You wholeheartedly<MH8003, 3824> and in truth<MH571>, and have done<MH6213a> what<MH2896a> is<MH2896a> good<MH2896a> in Your sight<MH5869>.&#8221; And Hezekiah<MH2396> wept<MH1058> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>profusely<MH1419>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/38-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>Then the word<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068> came<MH1961> to Isaiah<MH3470b>, saying<MH559>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/38-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>&#8220;Go<MH1980> and say<MH559> to Hezekiah<MH2396>, &#8216;This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068>, the God<MH430> of your father<MH1> David<MH1732> says<MH559>: &#8220;I have heard<MH8085> your prayer<MH8605>, I have seen<MH7200> your tears<MH1832>; behold<MH2009>, I will add<MH3254> fifteen<MH2568, 6240> years<MH8141> to your <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>life<MH3117>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/38-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And I will save<MH5337> you and this<MH2088> city<MH5892b> from the hand<MH3709> of the king<MH4428> of Assyria<MH804b>; and I will protect<MH1598> this<MH2088> city<MH5892b>.&#8221;&#8217; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/38-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>&#8220;And this<MH2088> shall be the sign<MH226> to you from the LORD<MH3068>, that the LORD<MH3068> will perform<MH6213a> this<MH2088> word<MH1697> that He has spoken<MH1696>: <span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/38-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Behold<MH2009>, I will make<MH7725> the shadow<MH6738> on the stairway<MH4609b>, which<MH834> has gone<MH3381> down<MH3381> with the sun<MH8121> on the stairway<MH4609b> of Ahaz<MH271>, go<MH7725> back<MH322> ten<MH6235> steps<MH4609b>.&#8221; So the sun&#8217;s<MH8121> <i>shadow</i> went<MH7725> back<MH7725> ten<MH6235> steps<MH4609b> on the stairway<MH4609b> on which<MH834> it had gone<MH3381> down<MH3381>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/38-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span><i>This is</i> a writing<MH4385> of Hezekiah<MH2396> king<MH4428> of Judah<MH3063> after his illness<MH2483> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>recovery<MH2421a>: <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/38-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>I said<MH559>, &#8220;In the middle<MH1824> of my <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>life<MH3117> <t><p class="indent1">I am to enter<MH1980> the gates<MH8179> of Sheol<MH7585>; <t><p class="indent1">I have been deprived<MH6485> of the rest<MH3499a> of my years<MH8141>.&#8221; <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/38-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>I said<MH559>, &#8220;I will not see<MH7200> the LORD<MH3050>, <t><p class="indent1">The LORD<MH3050> in the land<MH776> of the living<MH2416a>; <t><p class="indent1">I will no<MH3808> longer<MH5750> look<MH5027> on mankind<MH120> among<MH5973> the inhabitants<MH3427> of the world<MH2465>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/38-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>&#8220;Like a shepherd&#8217;s<MH7473> tent<MH168> my dwelling<MH1755> is pulled<MH5265> up<MH5265> and removed<MH1540> from me; <t><p class="indent1">As a weaver<MH707> I rolled<MH7088> up my life<MH2425b>. <t><p class="indent1">He cuts<MH1214> me off<MH1214> from the loom<MH1803a>; <t><p class="indent1">From day<MH3117> until<MH5704> night<MH3915> You make<MH7999a> an end<MH7999a> of me. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/38-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>&#8220;I composed<MH7737a> <i>my soul</i> until<MH5704> morning<MH1242>. <t><p class="indent1">Like a lion<MH738>&#8212;so<MH3651> He breaks<MH7665> all<MH3605> my bones<MH6106>, <t><p class="indent1">From day<MH3117> until<MH5704> night<MH3915> You make<MH7999a> an end<MH7999a> of me. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/38-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>&#8220;Like a swallow<MH5483a>, <i>like</i> a crane<MH5693>, so<MH3651> I twitter<MH6850>; <t><p class="indent1">I moan<MH1897> like a dove<MH3123>; <t><p class="indent1">My eyes<MH5869> look<MH1809> wistfully<MH1809> to the heights<MH4791>; <t><p class="indent1">Lord<MH3068>, I am oppressed<MH6234>, be<MH6148> my security<MH6148>. <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/38-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>&#8220;What<MH4100> shall I say<MH1696>? <t><p class="indent1"><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>For He has spoken<MH559> to me, and He Himself<MH1931> has done<MH6213a> it;
