<span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/28-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>However<MG3303a, 3767>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>Paul shook<MG660> the creature<MG2342> off<MG660> into the fire<MG4442> and suffered<MG3958> no<MG3762> harm<MG2556>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/28-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> they were expecting<MG4328> that he was<MG3195> going<MG3195> to<MG3195> swell<MG4092b> up<MG4092b> or<MG2228> suddenly<MG869> fall<MG2667> down<MG2667> dead<MG3498>. But after they had waited<MG4328> a long<MG4183> time and had seen<MG2334> nothing<MG3367> unusual<MG824> happen<MG1096> to him, they changed<MG3328> their minds<MG3328> and <i>began</i> to say<MG3004> that he was a god<MG2316>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/28-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> in the neighboring<MG4012> parts<MG4012> of that place<MG5117> were lands<MG5564> belonging to the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>leading<MG4413> man<MG4413> of the island<MG3520>, named<MG3686> Publius<MG4196>, who<MG3739> welcomed<MG324> us and entertained<MG3579> us warmly<MG5390> for three<MG5140> days<MG2250>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/28-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And it happened<MG1096> that the father<MG3962> of Publius<MG4196> was lying<MG2621> <i>in bed</i> afflicted<MG4912> with a <i>recurring</i> fever<MG4446> and dysentery<MG1420>. Paul<MG3972> went<MG1525> in<MG1525> <i>to see</i> him, and after he prayed<MG4336>, he laid<MG2007> his hands<MG5495> on<MG2007> him and healed<MG2390> him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/28-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>After this<MG3778> happened<MG1096>, the rest<MG3062> of the people on the island<MG3520> who had<MG2192> diseases<MG769> were coming<MG4334> to him and being<MG2323> cured<MG2323>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/28-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>They also showed<MG5091> us many<MG4183> honors<MG5092>, and when we were <i>about to</i> set<MG321> sail<MG321>, they <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>supplied<MG2007> <i>us</i> with <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>everything<MG3588> we needed<MG5532>. <p class="hdg">Paul Arrives in Rome</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/28-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>After<MG3326> three<MG5140> months<MG3376> we set<MG321> sail<MG321> on an Alexandrian<MG222> ship<MG4143> which had wintered<MG3914> at the island<MG3520>, and which had<MG3902> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>the Twin<MG1359> Brothers<MG1359> for<MG3902> its<MG3902> figurehead<MG3902>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/28-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>After we put<MG2609> in<MG2609> at Syracuse<MG4946>, we stayed<MG1961> there for three<MG5140> days<MG2250>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/28-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>From<MG3606> there<MG3606> we sailed<MG4022> around<MG4022> and arrived<MG2658> at Rhegium<MG4484>, and a day<MG2250> later<MG3326> a south<MG3558> wind<MG3558> came<MG1920> up<MG1920>, and on the second<MG1206> day<MG1206> we came<MG2064> to Puteoli<MG4223>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/28-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>There<MG3757> we found<MG2147> <i>some</i> brothers<MG80> <i>and sisters,</i> and were invited<MG3870> to stay<MG1961> with them for seven<MG2033> days<MG2250>; and that<MG3779> is<MG3779> how<MG3779> we came<MG2064> to Rome<MG4516>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/28-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And from<MG2547> there<MG2547> the brothers<MG80> <i>and sisters,</i> when they heard<MG191> about<MG4012> us, came<MG2064> as far<MG891> as the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>Market<MG675, 5410> of<MG675, 5410> Appius<MG675, 5410> and the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>Three<MG5140> Inns<MG4999> to meet<MG529> us; and when Paul<MG3972> saw<MG3708> them, he thanked<MG2168> God<MG2316> and took<MG2983> courage<MG2294>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/28-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>When<MG3753> we entered<MG1525> Rome<MG4516>, Paul<MG3972> was allowed<MG2010> to stay<MG3306> by himself<MG1438>, with the soldier<MG4757> who was guarding<MG5442> him. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/28-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>After<MG3326> three<MG5140> days<MG2250> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>Paul called<MG4779> together<MG4779> those<MG3588> who were the leading<MG4413> men<MG4413> of the Jews<MG2453>, and when they came<MG4905> together<MG4905>, he <i>began</i> saying<MG3004> to them, &#8220;Brothers<MG435, 80>, though I had done<MG4160> nothing<MG3762> against<MG1727> our people<MG2992> or<MG2228> the customs<MG1485> of our <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>fathers<MG3971>, <i>yet</i> I was handed<MG3860, 5495> over<MG3860> to the Romans<MG4514> as a prisoner<MG1198> from Jerusalem<MG2414>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/28-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And when they had examined<MG350> me, they were willing<MG1014> to release<MG630> me because<MG1223> there were no<MG3367> grounds<MG156> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>for putting me to death<MG2288>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/28-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>But when the Jews<MG2453> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>objected<MG483>, I was forced<MG315> to appeal<MG1941> to<MG1941> Caesar<MG2541>, not that I had<MG2192> any<MG5100> accusation<MG2723> against<MG2723> my nation<MG1484>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/28-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>For this<MG3778> reason<MG156>, therefore<MG3767>, I <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>requested<MG3870> to see<MG3708> you and to speak<MG4354> with you, since<MG1063> I am wearing<MG4029> this<MG3778> chain<MG254> for the sake<MG1752a> of the hope<MG1680> of Israel<MG2474>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/28-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>They said<MG3004> to him, &#8220;We have neither<MG3777> received<MG1209> letters<MG1121> from Judea<MG2449> concerning<MG4012> you, nor<MG3777> has any<MG5100> of the brothers<MG80> come<MG3854> here<MG3854> and reported<MG518> or<MG2228> spoken<MG2980> anything<MG5100> bad<MG4190> about<MG4012> you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/28-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>But we desire<MG515> to hear<MG191> from you what<MG3739> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>your views<MG5426> are<MG5426>; for regarding<MG4012> this<MG3778> sect<MG139>, it is known<MG1110> to us that it is spoken<MG483> against<MG483> everywhere<MG3837>.&#8221; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/28-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>When they had set<MG5021> a day<MG2250> for <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>Paul, <i>people</i> came<MG2064> to him at his lodging<MG3578> in large<MG4183> numbers<MG4183>; and he was explaining<MG1620> to them by solemnly<MG1263> testifying<MG1263> about the kingdom<MG932> of God<MG2316> and trying to persuade<MG3982> them concerning<MG4012> Jesus<MG2424>, from both<MG5037> the Law<MG3551> of Moses<MG3475> and from the Prophets<MG4396>, from morning<MG4404> until<MG2193> evening<MG2073>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/28-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Some<MG3588> were being persuaded<MG3982> by the things<MG3004> said<MG3004> <i>by Paul,</i> but others<MG3588> would<MG569> not<MG569> believe<MG569>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/28-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>And when they disagreed<MG800, 1510> with one<MG240> another<MG240>, they <i>began</i> leaving<MG630> after Paul<MG3972> said<MG3004> one<MG1520> <i>parting</i> statement<MG4487>: &#8220;The Holy<MG40> Spirit<MG4151> rightly<MG2573> spoke<MG2980> through<MG1223> Isaiah<MG2268> the prophet<MG4396> to your fathers<MG3962>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/28-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>saying<MG3004>, <t><p class="indent1">&#8216;GO<MG4198> TO THIS<MG3778> PEOPLE<MG2992> AND SAY<MG3004>, <p class="indent1stline">&#8220;<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>YOU WILL KEEP<MG189> ON HEARING<MG191>, AND WILL NOT UNDERSTAND<MG4920>;
