Beth-shemesh, meaning "House of the Sun," was a Levitical city located in the territory of Judah, near the border with the Philistines (<a href="/joshua/21-16.htm">Joshua 21:16</a>). The Berean Standard Bible states: "But God struck down some of the men of Beth-shemesh because they had looked into the Ark of the LORD.
