M.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: medium;"><strong>Answer:</strong> G20 bail-in is an internet term for a recently adopted approach to maintaining the integrity of global banks in the event of a crisis. Most people are not aware that the Great Depression was not really caused by the stock market declining, it was caused by over 2000 banks failing in a very short period of time. During the 2008 recession there was considerable concern that history might repeat itself. In order to set up rules and procedures in advance of any future crisis, last Fall the G20 approved changes in the rules for bank capitalization.</span></p> <p>These rule changes apply only in the event of the crisis described, however, so they have no impact on the day to day workings of the FDIC or any other bank related entity. It is easy to hypothesize a disaster then attempt to personalize that disaster. Very rarely do those disasters actually occur and even then, seldom in the envisioned form. I suggest less reading of internet horror stories and more living in the present. The United States is still the financially strongest nation in the World with the most productive workers and the largest economy.</p> <p>Many innovations such as fracking, iPhones, 3D printing, and grapheme were invented in the United States and there is ample reason to believe further innovations will occur. They are an IMF instrument that gives the big banks the authority to not return a percentage of their investments to funders. In other words, to keep the banks solvent, investors knowingly will not be getting a scheduled timetable return.
