This imagery is rooted in both Old and New Testament scriptures, where the metaphor of marriage is used to describe the covenant relationship between God and His people.<br><br><b>Old Testament Background</b><br><br>In the Old Testament, the concept of God as a bridegroom is introduced through the covenant relationship between God and Israel. The prophet Isaiah speaks of this relationship, saying, "For your husband is your Maker—the LORD of Hosts is His name. The Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; He is called the God of all the earth" (<a href="/isaiah/54-5.htm">Isaiah 54:5</a>).
