It has now been patched. Thank you to all the users that have reported the issue to us.

popSTR update

Two new STR groups were added: Illumina ForenSeq and NIST Mini-STRs

SNPforID browser update

A total of 451 urban samples from Chile representing the whole extension of the country from north to south, have been added to the SNPforID's 52plex browser

popSTR update

29 STRs were typed on 494 Dominican Republic samples and added to popSTR.

popSTR bug fix

VWA locus frequencies have been reported not being displayed at the output since last popSTR update. Also, a typo at locus D18S51 in the HDplex section, which was typed as D8S51 was detected. This both issues have now been solved.

popSTR update

Up to 52 STRs are now recorded in popSTR. All the 940 unrelated HGDP-CEPH samples have been typed for all those 52 STRs, and the rest of the populations present in popSTR keep their original genotypes. STRs kits have been reordered to facilitate their selection.

Gene search and 1000 Genomes summaries

We have recently detected a bug when any SPSmart's dataset but 1000 Genomes was selected and a gene search was performed. The selected dataset's data was displayed fine, but the 1000 Genomes' piechart summaries were reporting a "non genotyped" message. This bug has been solved, and piechart summaries are now displayed perfectly for all datasets.

Life Support reviewed (again)

Google has recently discontinued its Google Talk widget develpment, and for that reason we had to (once again) move our live support to a suitable alternative. We have chosen now BoldChat, hoping to keep the service as useful as it previously has been.

Forensic updates

The forensic SPSmart pages have been updated to include two developments. Firstly, we have incorporated a new 34-plex AIM SNP component rs3827760 (internal code P28), replacing rs727811 (A30), though both SNPs have population data kept in full at the end of the 34-plex marker lists. This minor revision improves the differentiation of East Asian from African and European ancestry, as outlined in: Fondevila et al., Revision of the SNPforID 34-plex forensic ancestry test - assay enhancements, standard reference sample genotypes and extended population studies, Forensic Sci. Int. Genet. (2012), http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/ j.fsigen.2012.06.007. Secondly, an ancestry-informative STR 12-plex has been developed and is now added to popSTR. These developments are described in a paper currently in submission.
The SNPforID 34-plex browser includes now 3 more populations (46 Egyptians, 101 Libyans, 86 Yemeni), and also the SEARCH section has been provided with a versioning option for reverse compatibility. The new AIM SNP rs3827760 will output by default, but using this selection option allows displaying the previous SNP rs727811 too.

Life Support reviewed

Once again, we have reviewed the online pressence widget for the life support, since all the previous implemented ones haven't matched all our criteria. We have now chosen Google Talk's widget, since we have seen that most of our users wouldn't have problems at all with it (we weren't able to assure so with the previous ones), so we really hope to hear from you all whenever you need a quick answer to a particular user experience doubt you may have.

chr:pos search review

The chr:pos search has been reviewed, since the some results listed were reported as "not genotyped" due to a internal snp code mismatch when the variant was reported on dbSNP too.

popSTR data update

Data from Swedish, US Europeans and NW Spain has been curated and uploaded to the popSTR section of SPSmart. Also, a new STR 12plex called AIM-STR has been typed on CEPH samples only, and added to the datamart.

Web hosting security update

Due to a potential security breach, a security rule on the recently updated web server was limiting the user search to a reduced amount of bytes, which could be translated into a couple of dozens of searchable SNPs in the SNP search. This rule has been now rewritten in order to remove such limit.

Database hosting maintenance

The datamart holding SPSmart data is now stored in a faster storage facility, making queries to be performed even quicker than before.

Web hosting maintenance

Due to maintenance jobs on the web hosting server we have lost the connection to the main database since yesterday. These jobs have ended this morning, and the service has been restarted. A RSS feed has been created in order to publish these kind of news.

SPSmart RSS feed started

Since the about section of SPSmart has been always limited to describe a plain general changelog, information regarding subsections updates or maintenance jobs for instance was not being recorded there. We have now addressed an historical intention we had in the past by creating a RSS feed which can be easily used to detect any changes, major or minor, on our tool. For that reason we have created this feed, which you can sindicate to through your favourite RSS reader.
