saying<MH559>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>“Stand<MH5975> at the gate<MH8179> of the LORD’S<MH3068> house<MH1004> and proclaim<MH7121> there<MH8033> this<MH2088> word<MH1697>, and say<MH559>, ‘Hear<MH8085> the word<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068>, all<MH3605> you of Judah<MH3063>, who enter<MH935> by these<MH428> gates<MH8179> to worship<MH2331c> the LORD<MH3068>!’” <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635>, the God<MH430> of Israel<MH3478> says<MH559>: “Amend<MH3190> your ways<MH1870> and your deeds<MH4611>, and I will let you live<MH7931> in this<MH2088> place<MH4725>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>Do not trust<MH982> in deceptive<MH8267> words<MH1697>, saying<MH559>, ‘<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>This<MH1992a> is the temple<MH1964> of the LORD<MH3068>, the temple<MH1964> of the LORD<MH3068>, the temple<MH1964> of the LORD<MH3068>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>For if<MH518> you truly<MH3190> amend<MH3190> your ways<MH1870> and your deeds<MH4611>, if<MH518> you truly<MH6213a> practice<MH6213a> justice<MH4941> between<MH996> a person<MH376> and his neighbor<MH7453>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span><i>if</i> you do not oppress<MH6231> the stranger<MH1616>, the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>orphan<MH3490>, or the widow<MH490>, and do not shed<MH8210> innocent<MH5355a> blood<MH1818> in this<MH2088> place<MH4725>, nor<MH3808> follow<MH1980, 310> other<MH312> gods<MH430> to your own ruin<MH7451b>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>then I will let you live<MH7931> in this<MH2088> place<MH4725>, in the land<MH776> that I gave<MH5414> to your fathers<MH1> forever<MH4480, 5769> and ever<MH5769>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>“Behold<MH2009>, you are trusting<MH982> in deceptive<MH8267> words<MH1697> to no<MH1115> avail<MH3276>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Will you steal<MH1589>, murder<MH7523>, commit<MH5003> adultery<MH5003>, swear<MH7650> falsely<MH8267>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>offer<MH6999> sacrifices<MH6999> to Baal<MH1168a>, and follow<MH1980, 310> other<MH312> gods<MH430> that you have not known<MH3045>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>then come<MH935> and stand<MH5975> before<MH6440> Me in this<MH2088> house<MH1004> which<MH834> is called<MH7121> by My name<MH8034>, and say<MH559>, ‘We are saved<MH5337>!’—so<MH4616> that<MH4616> you may do<MH6213a> all<MH3605> these<MH428> abominations<MH8441>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Has this<MH2088> house<MH1004>, which<MH834> is called<MH7121> by My name<MH8034>, become<MH1961> a den<MH4631> of robbers<MH6530> in your sight<MH5869>? Behold<MH2009>, I Myself<MH595, 1571> have seen<MH7200> <i>it,</i>” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>“But go<MH1980> now<MH4994> to My place<MH4725> which<MH834> was in Shiloh<MH7887>, where<MH834, 8033> I made My name<MH8034> dwell<MH7931> at the beginning<MH7223>, and see<MH7200> what<MH834> I did<MH6213a> to it because<MH4480, 6440> of the wickedness<MH7463a> of My people<MH5971a> Israel<MH3478>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And now<MH6258>, because<MH3282> you have done<MH6213a> all<MH3605> these<MH428> things<MH4639>,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, “and I spoke<MH1696> to you, speaking<MH1696> again<MH7925> and<MH7925> again<MH7925>, but you did not listen<MH8085>, and I called<MH7121> you but you did not answer<MH6030a>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>therefore I will do<MH6213a> to the house<MH1004> which<MH834> is called<MH7121> by My name<MH8034>, in which<MH834> you trust<MH982>, and to the place<MH4725> which<MH834> I gave<MH5414> you and your fathers<MH1>, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> I did<MH6213a> to Shiloh<MH7887>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>I will hurl<MH7993> you out<MH7993> of My sight<MH6440>, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> I have hurled<MH7993> out<MH7993> all<MH3605> your brothers<MH251>, all<MH3605> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>descendants<MH2233> of Ephraim<MH669>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>“As for you, do not pray<MH6419> for this<MH2088> people<MH5971a>, and do not lift<MH5375> up<MH5375> a cry<MH7440> or prayer<MH8605> for them, and do not plead<MH6293> with Me; for I am not listening<MH8085> to you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Do you not see<MH7200> what<MH4100> they are doing<MH6213a> in the cities<MH5892b> of Judah<MH3063> and in the streets<MH2351> of Jerusalem<MH3389>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>The <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>children<MH1121> gather<MH3950> wood<MH6086>, the fathers<MH1> kindle<MH1197a> the fire<MH784>, and the women<MH802> knead<MH3888> dough<MH1217> to make<MH6213a> sacrificial<MH3561> cakes<MH3561> for the queen<MH4446> of heaven<MH8064>; and <i>they</i> pour<MH5258a> out<MH5258a> drink<MH5262a> offerings<MH5262a> to other<MH312> gods<MH430> in<MH4616> order<MH4616> to<MH4616> provoke<MH3707> Me to<MH3707> anger<MH3707>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Are they provoking<MH3707> Me?” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>. “Is it not themselves <i>instead,</i> to their <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>own<MH6440> shame<MH1322>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Therefore<MH3651> this<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the Lord<MH136> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>GOD<MH3068> says<MH559>: “Behold<MH2009>, My anger<MH639> and My wrath<MH2534> will be poured<MH5413> out<MH5413> on this<MH2088> place<MH4725>, on human<MH120> and animal<MH929> <i>life,</i> and on the trees<MH6086> of the field<MH7704> and the fruit<MH6529> of the ground<MH127>; and it will burn<MH1197a> and not be quenched<MH3518>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635>, the God<MH430> of Israel<MH3478> says<MH559>: “Add<MH3254> your burnt<MH5930a> offerings<MH5930a> to your sacrifices<MH2077> and eat<MH398> flesh<MH1320>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>For I did not speak<MH1696> to your fathers<MH1>, or command<MH6680> them on the day<MH3117> that I brought<MH3318> them out<MH3318> of the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>, concerning<MH5921, 1697> burnt<MH5930a> offerings<MH5930a> and sacrifices<MH2077>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>But this<MH2088> is <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>what<MH1697> I commanded<MH6680> them, saying<MH559>, ‘Obey<MH8085> My voice<MH6963>, and I will be your God<MH430>, and you will be My people<MH5971a>; and you shall walk<MH1980> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>entirely<MH3605> in the way<MH1870> which<MH834> I command<MH6680> you, so<MH4616> that<MH4616> it may go<MH3190> well<MH3190> for you.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Yet they did not obey<MH8085> or incline<MH5186> their ear<MH241>, but walked<MH1980> by <i>their own</i> advice<MH4156> <i>and</i> in the stubbornness<MH8307> of their evil<MH7451a> hearts<MH3820>, and they <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>went<MH1961> backward<MH268> and not forward<MH6440>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Since<MH4480> the day<MH3117> that your fathers<MH1> came<MH3318> out<MH3318> of the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714> until<MH5704> this<MH2088> day<MH3117>, I have sent<MH7971> you all<MH3605> My servants<MH5650> the prophets<MH5030>, sending<MH7971> <i>them</i> daily<MH3117>, again<MH7925> and<MH7925> again<MH7925>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Yet they did not listen<MH8085> to Me or incline<MH5186> their ear<MH241>, but stiffened<MH7185> their neck<MH6203>; they did<MH7489a> more<MH4480> evil<MH7489a> than<MH4480> their fathers<MH1>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>“So you shall speak<MH1696> all<MH3605> these<MH428> words<MH1697> to them, but they will not listen<MH8085> to you; and you shall call<MH7121> to them, but they will not answer<MH6030a> you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>And you shall say<MH559> to them, ‘This<MH2088> is the nation<MH1471> that did not obey<MH8085> the voice<MH6963> of the LORD<MH3068> their God<MH430> or accept<MH3947> discipline<MH4148>; <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>trustworthiness<MH530> has perished<MH6> and has been eliminated<MH3772> from their mouth<MH6310>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>‘Cut<MH1494> off<MH1494> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>your hair<MH5145> and throw<MH7993> <i>it</i> away<MH7993>, <t><p class="indent1">And take<MH5375> up<MH5375> a song<MH7015> of<MH7015> mourning<MH7015> on the bare<MH8205> heights<MH8205>; <t><p class="indent1">For the LORD<MH3068> has rejected<MH3988a> and forsaken<MH5203> <t><p class="indent1">The generation<MH1755> of His wrath<MH5678>.’ <A><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>For the sons<MH1121> of Judah<MH3063> have done<MH6213a> that which<MH7451a> is<MH7451a> evil<MH7451a> in My sight<MH5869>,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>. “They have put<MH7760> their detestable<MH8251> things<MH8251> in the house<MH1004> which<MH834> is called<MH7121> by My name<MH8034>, to defile<MH2930> it. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>They have built<MH1129> the high<MH1116> places<MH1116> of Topheth<MH8612>, which<MH834> is in the Valley<MH1516> of Ben-hinnom<MH1121, 2011>, to burn<MH8313> their sons<MH1121> and their daughters<MH1323> in the fire<MH784>, which<MH834> I did not command<MH6680>, and it did not come<MH5927> into My <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>mind<MH3820>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>“Therefore<MH3651>, behold<MH2009>, days<MH3117> are coming<MH935>,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, “when it will no<MH3808> longer<MH5750> be called<MH559> Topheth<MH8612>, or the Valley<MH1516> of Ben-hinnom<MH1121, 2011>, but the Valley<MH1516> of the Slaughter<MH2028>; for they will bury<MH6912> in Topheth<MH8612> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>because<MH4480> there<MH369> is<MH369> no<MH369> <i>other</i> place<MH4725>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/7-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>The dead<MH5038> bodies<MH5038> of this<MH2088> people<MH5971a> will be food<MH3978> for the birds<MH5775> of the sky<MH8064> and for the animals<MH929> of the earth<MH776>;
