kurzgefasst <a href="http://www.europarl.europa.eu/news/de/headlines/economy/20170629STO78621/eu-abgeordnete-fordern-massnahmen-fur-langere-lebensdauer-von-produkten">eine “längere Lebensdauer für Produkte” fordert</a>. Da die Lebensdauer elektronischer Produkte unweigerlich mit der verwendeten Software, deren Anpassbarkeit sowie Reparatur- und Updatepolitiken zusammenhängt, besteht in diesen Forderungen eine Chance, Freie Software über einen Verbraucherschutz-orientierten Diskurs zu fördern: Freie Software als ein Kernstück digitaler Nachhaltigkeit.</p> <p style="margin-top:2em">Bei einer <em>“Entschließung”</em> des Europäischen Parlaments (EP) handelt es sich um keine verbindlichen Vorgaben, viel mehr um eine Willenserklärung. Dennoch lässt die soeben verabschiedete Entschließung des EP aufhorchen. Es handelte sich um eine Auftaktveranstaltung zur Forschungsfrage „Was ist Nachhaltige Software?“ beziehungsweise zu der Frage, welche Kriterien zur Bestimmung von Nachhaltigkeit von Software und dessen Entwicklung in Betracht gezogen werden können.<br /> Ich wurde gebeten die Bedeutung Freier Software in Bezug auf Nachhaltigkeit zu beleuchten. Selbst sehe ich die besondere Bedeutung Freier Software für eine Digitale Nachhaltigkeit – den Veranstaltern war verständlicherweise jedoch die ökologische Nachhaltigkeit ein besonderes Anliegen. Und auch dazu kann Freie Software einen bedeutenden Beitrag leisten.
