In order to deliver water from resources to the users, many procedures should be taken by the water engineers. One of the main procedures to deliver water to the community is by designing pressurizer pipe networks for water. The main aim of this work is to calculate the water demand of a small town and then design a simple water network to distribute water resources among the town with the smallest losses. Literature has been mentioned to cover the main point related to water distribution. Moreover, the methodology has introduced two approaches to solve the research problem, one by the iterative method of Hardy-cross and the other by water software Pipe Flow. The results have introduced two main designs to satisfy the same research requirements. Finally, the researchers have concluded that the use of water software provides more abilities and options for water engineers. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=looping%20pipe%20networks" title="looping pipe networks">looping pipe networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hardy%20cross%20networks%20accuracy" title=" hardy cross networks accuracy"> hardy cross networks accuracy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=relative%20error%20of%20hardy%20cross%20method" title=" relative error of hardy cross method"> relative error of hardy cross method</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/156922/comparison-between-hardy-cross-method-and-water-software-to-solve-a-pipe-networking-design-problem-for-a-small-town" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/156922.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">164</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3175</span> Study of the Effect of Soil Compaction and Height on Pipe Ovality for Buried Steel Pipe</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ali%20Ghodsbin%20Jahromi">Ali Ghodsbin Jahromi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ehsan%20Moradi"> Ehsan Moradi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, the numerical study of buried steel pipe in soil is investigated. Furthermore, the effect of the pipes’ thickness on ovality has been investigated. The results show that increasing the percentage of soil compaction has more effect on reducing percentage of ovality, and if the percentage of soil compaction increases, we can use the pipe with less thickness. Research in issues related to CSR is deemed to make higher impacts as CSR encourages long-term economy and business success without neglecting social, environmental risks, obligations and opportunities. Therefore, CSR is a key matter for any organisation aiming for long term sustainability since business incorporates principles of social responsibility into each of its business decisions. Thus, this paper presents a theoretical proposition based on stakeholder theory from the organisational perspective as a foundation for better CSR practices. The primary subject of this paper is to explore how looping concept can be effectively embedded into corporate CSR strategy to foster sustainable long term growth. In general, the concept of a loop is a structure or process, the end of which is connected to the beginning, whereas the narrow view of a loop in business field means plan, do, check, and improve. In this sense, looping concept is a blend of balance and agility with the awareness to know when to which. Organisations can introduce similar pull mechanisms by formulating CSR strategies in order to perform the best plan of actions in real time, then a chance to change those actions, pushing them toward well-organized planning and successful performance. Through the analysis of an exploratory study, this paper demonstrates that approaching looping concept in the context of corporate CSR strategy is an important source of new idea to propel CSR practices by deepening basic understanding through the looping concept which is increasingly necessary to attract and retain business stakeholders include people such as employees, customers, suppliers and other communities for long-term business survival. This paper contributes to the literature by providing a fundamental explanation of how the organisations will experience less financial and reputation risk if looping concept logic is integrated into core business CSR strategy. The value of the paper rests in the treatment of looping concept as a corporate CSR strategy which demonstrates "looping concept implementation framework for CSR" that could further foster business sustainability, and help organisations move along the path from laggards to leaders. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=corporate%20social%20responsibility" title="corporate social responsibility">corporate social responsibility</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=looping%20concept" title=" looping concept"> looping concept</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stakeholder%20theory" title=" stakeholder theory"> stakeholder theory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainable%20growth" title=" sustainable growth"> sustainable growth</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28105/embedding-looping-concept-into-corporate-csr-strategy-for-sustainable-growth-an-exploratory-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28105.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">400</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3173</span> Mid-Temperature Methane-Based Chemical Looping Reforming for Hydrogen Production via Iron-Based Oxygen Carrier Particles</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yang%20Li">Yang Li</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mingkai%20Liu"> Mingkai Liu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Qiong%20Rao"> Qiong Rao</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zhongrui%20Gai"> Zhongrui Gai</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ying%20Pan"> Ying Pan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hongguang%20Jin"> Hongguang Jin</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Hydrogen is an ideal and potential energy carrier due to its high energy efficiency and low pollution. An alternative and promising approach to hydrogen generation is the chemical looping steam reforming of methane (CL-SRM) over iron-based oxygen carriers. However, the process faces challenges such as high reaction temperature (>850 ℃) and low methane conversion. We demonstrate that Ni-mixed Fe-based oxygen carrier particles have significantly improved the methane conversion and hydrogen production rate in the range of 450-600 ℃ under atmospheric pressure. The effect on the reaction reactivity of oxygen carrier particles mixed with different Ni-based particle mass ratios has been determined in the continuous unit. More than 85% of methane conversion has been achieved at 600 ℃, and hydrogen can be produced in both reduction and oxidation steps. Moreover, the iron-based oxygen carrier particles exhibited good cyclic performance during 150 consecutive redox cycles at 600 ℃. The mid-temperature iron-based oxygen carrier particles, integrated with a moving-bed chemical looping system, might provide a powerful approach toward more efficient and scalable hydrogen production. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chemical%20looping" title="chemical looping">chemical looping</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hydrogen%20production" title=" hydrogen production"> hydrogen production</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mid-temperature" title=" mid-temperature"> mid-temperature</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=oxygen%20carrier%20particles" title=" oxygen carrier particles"> oxygen carrier particles</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/162319/mid-temperature-methane-based-chemical-looping-reforming-for-hydrogen-production-via-iron-based-oxygen-carrier-particles" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/162319.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">141</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3172</span> Influence of CA, SR and BA Substitution on lafeo3Performances During Chemical Looping Processes</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rong%20Sun">Rong Sun</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Laihong%20Shen"> Laihong Shen</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> La-based perovskite oxygen carriers, especially the doped-La(M)FeO₃, showed excellent performances during chemical looping processes. However, the mechanisms of the undoped and doped La(M)FeO₃ are not clear at present, making the mechanisms clear may help the development of chemical looping technologies. In this paper, the method based on the density function theory (DFT) was used to analysis the influence of Ca, Sr, and Ba doping of La on the electronic structure, while the CO oxidation mechanisms on the surface of LaFeO₃ and Ca-doped LaFeO₃ oxygen carriers were also analyzed. The results showed that the band gap was decreased by the doping of low valence. While the doping of low valence element Ca, Sr, and Ba at La site simultaneously resulted to the moving of the valence band toward high energy and made the valence band cross the Fermi energy level. This was resulted from the holes generated by divalent ion substitution. The holes can change the total magnetization from antiferromagnet to weakly ferromagnetism. The calculation results about the formation of oxygen vacancy showed that substitutions of Ca, Sr, and Ba caused a large drop in oxygen vacancy formation energy, indicating that the bulk oxygen transport was improved. Based on the optimized bulk of the undoped and Ca-doped LaFeO₃(010) surface, the CO adsorption was analyzed. The results indicated that the adsorption energy increased by divalent ion substitution, meaning that the adsorption stability decreased. The results can provide a certain theoretical basis for the development of perovskite oxides in chemical looping technologies. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chemical%20looping%20technologies" title="chemical looping technologies">chemical looping technologies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lanthanum%20ferrate%20%28LaFeO%E2%82%83%29" title=" lanthanum ferrate (LaFeO₃)"> lanthanum ferrate (LaFeO₃)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=divalent%20ion%20substitution" title=" divalent ion substitution"> divalent ion substitution</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CO%20oxidation" title=" CO oxidation"> CO oxidation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149451/influence-of-ca-sr-and-ba-substitution-on-lafeo3performances-during-chemical-looping-processes" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149451.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">102</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3171</span> Investigations into the Efficiencies of Steam Conversion in Three Reactor Chemical Looping</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ratnakumar%20V.%20Kappagantula">Ratnakumar V. An oxygen carrier is circulated to separate carbon dioxide, to reduce steam for hydrogen production and to supply oxygen for combustion. In this study, the emphasis is placed on the steam conversion in the steam reactor by investigating the hydrogen efficiencies of the complete system at steam conversions of 15.8% and 50%. An Aspen Plus model was developed for a Three Reactor Chemical Looping process to study the effects of operational parameters on hydrogen production is investigated. Maximum hydrogen production was observed under stoichiometric conditions. Different conversions in the steam reactor, which was modelled as a Gibbs reactor, were found when Gibbs-identified products and user identified products were chosen. Simulations were performed for different oxygen carriers, which consist of an active metal oxide on an inert support material. For the same metal oxide mass flowrate, the fuel reactor temperature decreased for different support materials in the order: aluminum oxide (Al2O3) > magnesium aluminate (MgAl2O4) > zirconia (ZrO2). To achieve the same fuel reactor temperature for the same oxide mass flow rate, the inert mass fraction was found to be 0.825 for ZrO2, 0.7 for MgAl2O4 and 0.6 for Al2O3. The effect of poisoning of the oxygen carrier was also analyzed. With 3000 ppm sulfur-based impurities in the feed gas, the hydrogen product energy rate of the process were found to decrease by 0.4%. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aspen%20plus" title="aspen plus">aspen plus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chemical%20looping%20combustion" title=" chemical looping combustion"> chemical looping combustion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inert%20support%20balls" title=" inert support balls"> inert support balls</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=oxygen%20carrier" title=" oxygen carrier"> oxygen carrier</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/79076/investigations-into-the-efficiencies-of-steam-conversion-in-three-reactor-chemical-looping" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/79076.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">328</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3170</span> Internal Corrosion Rupture of a 6-in Gas Line Pipe</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fadwa%20Jewilli">Fadwa Jewilli</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A sudden leak of a 6-inch gas line pipe after being in service for one year was observed. Tests have been conducted in a reservoir-pipe-valve system configured of a main viscoelastic pipeline and two short steel pipes placed upstream and downstream of the main pipe. Rapid closure of a manually operated valve at the downstream end generates water hammer. Experimental measurements at several positions along the pipeline have been collected from the papers. Computer simulations of the experiment have been performed and the results of runs with various options affecting the water hammer are provided and discussed. It is shown that the incorporation of viscoelastic pipe wall mechanical behavior in the hydraulic transient model contributes to a favorable fitting between numerical results and observed data. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pipe%20system" title="pipe system">pipe system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PVC%20pipe" title=" PVC pipe"> PVC pipe</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=viscoelasticity" title=" viscoelasticity"> viscoelasticity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20hammer" title=" water hammer"> water hammer</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29507/numerical-analysis-of-water-hammer-in-a-viscoelastic-pipe-system-considering-fluid-structure-interaction" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29507.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">466</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3167</span> Flame Acceleration of Premixed Natural Gas/Air Explosion in Closed Pipe</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=H.%20Mat%20Kiah">H. A horizontal steel pipe, 2m long and 0.1 m in diameter (L/D of 20), was used in this work. For tests with 90 degree bends, the bend had a radius of 0.1 m and thus, the pipe was lengthened 1 m (based on the centreline length of the segment). Ignition was affected one end of the vessel while the other end was closed. Only stoichiometric concentration (Ф, = 1.0) of natural gas/air mixtures will be reported in this paper. It was demonstrated that bend pipe configuration gave three times higher in maximum over-pressure (5.5 bars) compared to straight pipe (2.0 bars). From the results, the highest flame speed of 63 m s-1 was observed in a gas explosion with bent pipe, greater by a factor of ~3 as compared with straight pipe (23 m s-1). This occurs because bending acts similar to an obstacle, in which this mechanism can induce more turbulence, initiating combustion in an unburned pocket at the corner region and causing a high mass burning rate which increases the flame speed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bending" title="bending">bending</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gas%20explosion" title=" gas explosion"> gas explosion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bending" title=" bending"> bending</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flame%20acceleration" title=" flame acceleration"> flame acceleration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=over-pressure" title=" over-pressure"> over-pressure</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3266/flame-acceleration-of-premixed-natural-gasair-explosion-in-closed-pipe" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3266.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">409</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3166</span> Optimization of Bifurcation Performance on Pneumatic Branched Networks in next Generation Soft Robots</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Van-Thanh%20Ho">Van-Thanh Ho</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hyoungsoon%20Lee"> Hyoungsoon Lee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jaiyoung%20Ryu"> Jaiyoung Ryu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Efficient pressure distribution within soft robotic systems, specifically to the pneumatic artificial muscle (PAM) regions, is essential to minimize energy consumption. This optimization involves adjusting reservoir pressure, pipe diameter, and branching network layout to reduce flow speed and pressure drop while enhancing flow efficiency. The outcome of this optimization is a lightweight power source and reduced mechanical impedance, enabling extended wear and movement. To achieve this, a branching network system was created by combining pipe components and intricate cross-sectional area variations, employing the principle of minimal work based on a complete virtual human exosuit. The results indicate that modifying the cross-sectional area of the branching network, gradually decreasing it, reduces velocity and enhances momentum compensation, preventing flow disturbances at separation regions. These optimized designs achieve uniform velocity distribution (uniformity index > 94%) prior to entering the connection pipe, with a pressure drop of less than 5%. The design must also consider the length-to-diameter ratio for fluid dynamic performance and production cost. This approach can be utilized to create a comprehensive PAM system, integrating well-designed tube networks and complex pneumatic models. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pneumatic%20artificial%20muscles" title="pneumatic artificial muscles">pneumatic artificial muscles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pipe%20networks" title=" pipe networks"> pipe networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pressure%20drop" title=" pressure drop"> pressure drop</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=compressible%20turbulent%20flow" title=" compressible turbulent flow"> compressible turbulent flow</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=uniformity%20flow" title=" uniformity flow"> uniformity flow</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=murray%27s%20law" title=" murray's law"> murray's law</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/174882/optimization-of-bifurcation-performance-on-pneumatic-branched-networks-in-next-generation-soft-robots" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/174882.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">84</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3165</span> The Pitch Diameter of Pipe Taper Thread Measurement and Uncertainty Using Three-Wire Probe</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=J.%20Kloypayan">J. Besides, according to the EA-10/10 standard, the pipe thread could be measured using the three-wire probe. This research proposed to use the three-wire probe measuring the pitch diameter of the pipe taper thread. The measuring accessory component was designed and made, then, assembled to one side of the ULM 828 CiM machine. Therefore, this machine could be used to measure and calibrate both the pipe thread and the pipe taper thread. The equations and the expanded uncertainty for pitch diameter measurement were formulated. After the experiment, the results showed that the pipe taper thread had the pitch diameter equal to 19.165 mm and the expanded uncertainty equal to 1.88µm. Then, the experiment results were compared to the results from the National Institute of Metrology Thailand. The equivalence ratio from the comparison showed that both results were related. Thus, the proposed method of using the three-wire probe measured the pitch diameter of the pipe taper thread was acceptable. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pipe%20taper%20thread" title="pipe taper thread">pipe taper thread</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=three-wire%20probe" title=" three-wire probe"> three-wire probe</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=measure%20and%20calibration" title=" measure and calibration"> measure and calibration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=the%20universal%20length%20measuring%20machine" title=" the universal length measuring machine"> the universal length measuring machine</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/2496/the-pitch-diameter-of-pipe-taper-thread-measurement-and-uncertainty-using-three-wire-probe" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/2496.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">406</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3164</span> Reliability-Based Maintenance Management Methodology to Minimise Life Cycle Cost of Water Supply Networks</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mojtaba%20Mahmoodian">Mojtaba Mahmoodian</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Joshua%20Phelan"> Joshua Phelan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mehdi%20Shahparvari"> Mehdi Shahparvari</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> With a large percentage of countries’ total infrastructure expenditure attributed to water network maintenance, it is essential to optimise maintenance strategies to rehabilitate or replace underground pipes before failure occurs. The aim of this paper is to provide water utility managers with a maintenance management approach for underground water pipes, subject to external loading and material corrosion, to give the lowest life cycle cost over a predetermined time period. This reliability-based maintenance management methodology details the optimal years for intervention, the ideal number of maintenance activities to perform before replacement and specifies feasible renewal options and intervention prioritisation to minimise the life cycle cost. The study was then extended to include feasible renewal methods by determining the structural condition index and potential for soil loss, then obtaining the failure impact rating to assist in prioritising pipe replacement. A case study on optimisation of maintenance plans for the Melbourne water pipe network is considered in this paper to evaluate the practicality of the proposed methodology. The results confirm that the suggested methodology can provide water utility managers with a reliable systematic approach to determining optimum maintenance plans for pipe networks. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20pipe%20networks" title="water pipe networks">water pipe networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=maintenance%20management" title=" maintenance management"> maintenance management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reliability%20analysis" title=" reliability analysis"> reliability analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optimum%20maintenance%20plan" title=" optimum maintenance plan"> optimum maintenance plan</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/79946/reliability-based-maintenance-management-methodology-to-minimise-life-cycle-cost-of-water-supply-networks" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/79946.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">155</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3163</span> Contemplation of Thermal Characteristics by Filling Ratio of Aluminium Oxide Nano Fluid in Wire Mesh Heat Pipe</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=D.%20Mala">D. For this purpose Al2O3 nano particles with a density of 9.8 gm/cm3 and a volume concentration of 1% is used as the working fluid in experimental heat pipe. The performance of heat pipe was evaluated by conducting experiments with different thermal loads and different angle of inclinations. Thermocouples are used to record the temperature distribution across the experiment. The results provide evidence that the suspension of Al2O3 nano particles in the base fluid increases the thermal efficiency of heat pipe and can be used in practical heat exchange applications. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heat%20pipe" title="heat pipe">heat pipe</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=angle%20of%20inclination" title=" angle of inclination"> angle of inclination</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermal%20resistance" title=" thermal resistance"> thermal resistance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermal%20efficiency" title=" thermal efficiency"> thermal efficiency</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29373/contemplation-of-thermal-characteristics-by-filling-ratio-of-aluminium-oxide-nano-fluid-in-wire-mesh-heat-pipe" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29373.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">562</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3162</span> Comparative Syudy Of Heat Transfer Capacity Limits of Heat Pipe</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=H.%20Shokouhmand">H. Results for water-based loop heat pipe is obtained and compared with open literature and error is found within 4%. Parametric study has been done to see the effect of different parameters on pressure drop and SSOT at varying heat loads. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=loop%20heat%20pipe" title="loop heat pipe">loop heat pipe</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=modelling%20of%20loop%20heat%20pipe" title=" modelling of loop heat pipe"> modelling of loop heat pipe</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=parametric%20study%20of%20loop%20heat%20pipe" title=" parametric study of loop heat pipe"> parametric study of loop heat pipe</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=functioning%20of%20loop%20heat%20pipe" title=" functioning of loop heat pipe"> functioning of loop heat pipe</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88235/mathematical-modelling-and-parametric-study-of-water-based-loop-heat-pipe-for-ground-application" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88235.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">411</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3157</span> Lightweight High-Pressure Ratio Centrifugal Compressor for Vehicles-Investigation of Pipe Diffuser Designs by Means of CFD</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eleni%20Ioannou">Eleni Ioannou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pascal%20Nucara"> Pascal Nucara</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Keith%20Pullen"> Keith Pullen</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The subject of this paper is the investigation of the best efficiency design of a compressor diffuser applied in new lightweight, ultra efficient micro-gas turbine engines for vehicles. The Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) results are obtained utilizing steady state simulations for a wedge and an ”oval” type pipe diffuser in an effort to identify the beneficial effects of the pipe diffuser design. The basic flow features are presented with particular focus on the optimization of the pipe diffuser leading to higher efficiencies for the compressor stage. The optimised pipe diffuser is designed to exploit the 3D freedom enabled by Selective Laser Melting, hence purposely involves an investigation of geometric characteristics that do not follow the traditional diffuser concept. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CFD" title="CFD">CFD</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=centrifugal%20compressor" title=" centrifugal compressor"> centrifugal compressor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=micro-gas%20turbine" title=" micro-gas turbine"> micro-gas turbine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pipe%20diffuser" title=" pipe diffuser"> pipe diffuser</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SLM" title=" SLM"> SLM</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wedge%20diffuser" title=" wedge diffuser"> wedge diffuser</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39107/lightweight-high-pressure-ratio-centrifugal-compressor-for-vehicles-investigation-of-pipe-diffuser-designs-by-means-of-cfd" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39107.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">406</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3156</span> Study on Heat Transfer Capacity Limits of Heat Pipe with Working Fluids Ammonia and Water</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Heydari">M. In addition to inadequate infrastructure and poor planning, the country is experiencing high rates of water wastage due to pipe leaks. This study outlines the level of water wastage and develops a smart solution to efficiently manage and reduce the effects of pipe leaks, while monitoring the situation before and after fixing the pipe leaks. To understand the issue in depth, a literature review of journal papers and government reports was conducted. A questionnaire was designed and distributed to the general public. Additionally, the municipality office was contacted from a managerial perspective. The analysis from the study indicated that the majority of the citizens are aware of the water crisis and are willing to participate positively to decrease the level of water wasted. Furthermore, the response from the municipality acknowledged that more practical solutions are needed to reduce water wastage, and resources to attend to pipe leaks swiftly. Therefore, this paper proposes a specific solution for municipalities, local plumbers and citizens to minimize the effects of pipe leaks. The solution provides web and mobile application platforms to report and manage leaks swiftly. The solution is beneficial to the country in achieving water security and would promote a culture of responsibility toward water usage. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20distribution%20networks" title="urban distribution networks">urban distribution networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=leak%20management" title=" leak management"> leak management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mobile%20application" title=" mobile application"> mobile application</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=responsible%20citizens" title=" responsible citizens"> responsible citizens</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20crisis" title=" water crisis"> water crisis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20security" title=" water security "> water security </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/105927/managing-city-pipe-leaks-through-community-participation-using-a-web-and-mobile-application-in-south-africa" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/105927.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">145</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3154</span> Heat Pipe Thermal Performance Improvement in H-VAC Systems Using CFD Modeling</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=H.%20Shokouhmand">H. The swirl flows induced by the two swirl pipes have the potential to improve the efficiency of Clean-In-Place procedures in a closed processing system by local intensification of hydrodynamic impact on the internal pipe surface. Pressure losses, swirl development within the two swirl pipe, swirl induction effectiveness, swirl decay and wall shear stress variation downstream of two swirl pipes are analyzed and compared. It was found that a shorter length of swirl inducing pipe used in joint with transition pipes is more effective in swirl induction than when a longer one is used, in that it has a less constraint to the induced swirl and results in slightly higher swirl intensity just downstream of it with the expense of a smaller pressure loss. The wall shear stress downstream of the shorter swirl pipe is also slightly larger than that downstream of the longer swirl pipe due to the slightly higher swirl intensity induced by the shorter swirl pipe. The advantage of the shorter swirl pipe in terms of swirl induction is more significant in flows with a larger Reynolds Number. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=swirl%20pipe" title="swirl pipe">swirl pipe</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=swirl%20effectiveness" title=" swirl effectiveness"> swirl effectiveness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CFD" title=" CFD"> CFD</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wall%20shear%20stress" title=" wall shear stress"> wall shear stress</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=swirl%20intensity" title=" swirl intensity"> swirl intensity</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29038/optimization-of-a-four-lobed-swirl-pipe-for-clean-in-place-procedures" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29038.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">606</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3148</span> Improve Heat Pipes Thermal Performance In H-VAC Systems Using CFD Modeling</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20Ghanami">A. It is also showed that the vertical orientation of heat pipe enhances it’s heat transfer capacity.used in the abstract. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Heat%20pipe" title="Heat pipe">Heat pipe</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=HVAC%20system" title=" HVAC system"> HVAC system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Grooved%20Heat%20pipe" title=" Grooved Heat pipe"> Grooved Heat pipe</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Heat%20pipe%20limits." title=" Heat pipe limits. Signals of different receptions are obtained to provide insight in using CL0 mode for locating the delamination. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
