Founded by Cyrus the Great in the 6th century BC, the empire extended from the Indus Valley in the east to Thrace and Macedon on the northeastern border of Greece, making it the largest empire the world had seen at that time.<br><br><b>Cyrus the Great and the Return from Exile</b><br><br>Cyrus the Great is a pivotal figure in biblical history, particularly noted for his decree that allowed the Jewish exiles to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple. Whoever among you belongs to His people, may his God be with him, and may he go to Jerusalem in Judah and build the house of the LORD, the God of Israel. He is the God who is in Jerusalem.'"
