House to house survey has been conducted in the village. One respondent from each of the total 105 households has been interviewed using an interview schedule. Similarly, observation method has also been followed for the study. The study reveals that access to mass media in the village was found quite significant. Radio was widely used and most popular medium in the village. It also reveals that 50.48 percent families (n-53) had gone to the hospitals or took modern health care system when their family members became ill. Besides, taking modern medicare system, the villagers had taken various types of treatments include homeopathic (16.19%), ayurvedic (19.05%) and magic healing (Jhar-Fuk) (14.28%). It was also observed that only economic hardship had kept the people for taking continuous traditional health practices in the village. As a result, adequate food and nutrition practices were not satisfactory in the village. The study population had used a variety of sources to meet their health information needs. The data reveals that people in the village had got health information mostly from interpersonal contact with friends, relatives and neighbours (42.86%) followed by individual media such family planning worker, health worker, NGO worker and doctor (34.29%), mass media like Radio, TV, newspaper, NGO's saving card and book (28.57%) and group media such NGO's meeting (23.81%)(Multiple responses). The study says that 66.66 percent respondents (n-70) had sought information about various chronic diseases like gastric, skin diseases, headache, cardiac complain, sexual diseases, blood pressure, paralysis, diabetics, asthma and jaundice. The study concludes that the entire health information pattern and practices in the village had depended particularly on the traditional or indigenous health care system alongside modern health care practices. So, the study suggests that traditional health care knowledge and practices from the older sources should be reproduced or renovated systematically along with welcoming the modern health care practices. It attempts to draw a distinction between health message sharing and dissemination based on the in-depth interviews with sedentary rural based women and migrant urban based rural women. The paper observes a tendency for health organizations and workers, as sources of the women's health messages, to disseminate through technologically mediated communications (TMCs) while essentially discarding indigenous African communication systems (IACS) where IACS are associated with sharing and TMCs with dissemination. Health care workers in both urban and rural locations used posters and other TMCs, which were less familiar and accessible to the largely illiterate women. A total of 6788 SMSs, each having 5-10 literate women, were equipped to enhance health communication. We carried out process evaluation of this program as an external agency. After a review of program documents, a random sample survey of Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), SMS members, and village women was conducted. Out of four divisions of the state, one was randomly chosen, which had five districts. From 330 randomly chosen villages, 283 ANMs, 1164 SMS members, and 1123 village women were interviewed using a semi- structured interview schedule. Program inputs, processes, and outputs were compared in the five districts. Chi square was used for significance test. In the sampled division, out of 2009 villages, 1732 (86%) had functional SMS. Maternal and Child Health services are essential and specialized services. More over, children are the asset for the family, community and nation where as, mothers have an important role in their growth and development. In spite of the wide spread infra structural facilities and service interventions in the rural areas, the morbidity and mortality among children continue to be a major cause of concern to the planning commissions. The focus seems to be the quality and level of utilization of services which are linked to the knowledge and availability of these services to the target population. Therefore the investigator planned to conduct the study to assess the knowledge among married women on utilization of MCH services. The research approach adopted for this study was evaluative approach and one group pre and post test design. The independent variable is STP and dependent variable is knowledge on utilization of MCH services. The setting of the study was at selected rural areas of Tumkur district. The sample consists of 60 married women and convenient sample technique was used to select the sample. The findings of the study revealed that the overall knowledge score shows increase in mean post test knowledge 25.53 with SD 2.10 than mean pre test knowledge 14.52 with SD 2.63. Hence in all areas post test scores are increased so the hypotheses is accepted significant at p< 0.001 level. It shows that STP was effective in increasing the knowledge of mothers. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to explore the public health information services through Village Knowledge Resource Centers, which ascertain the information needs of the Balasore district's rural inhabitants that promote public health. Methods: A survey was conducted with the help of a structured questionnaire developed to gather information regarding public health communication infrastructures and services rendered by the librarians of the medical college and public libraries of the Balasore district of Odisha. Results: The authors found a situation that demands the establishment of Village Knowledge Centers to fulfill the health information requirement of the rural inhabitants of the Balasore district of Odisha. Conclusion: Establishing VKCs will be very appropriate for rural inhabitants significantly to uplift their life through timely healthcare information.
