And how<MH4100> do you see<MH7200> it now<MH6258>? <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>Does it not seem<MH5869> to you like nothing<MH369> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>in<MH3644> comparison<MH3644>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/haggai/2-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>But now<MH6258> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>take<MH2388> courage<MH2388>, Zerubbabel<MH2216>,’ declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, ‘take<MH2388> courage<MH2388> also, Joshua<MH3091> son<MH1121> of Jehozadak<MH3087>, the high<MH1419> priest<MH3548>, and all<MH3605> you people<MH5971a> of the land<MH776> take<MH2388> courage<MH2388>,’ declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, ‘and work<MH6213a>; for I am with you,’ declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/haggai/2-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>‘As for the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>promise<MH1697> which<MH834> I <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>made<MH3772> you when you came<MH3318> out<MH3318> of Egypt<MH4714>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>My Spirit<MH7307> remains<MH5975> in your midst<MH8432>; do not fear<MH3372a>!’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/haggai/2-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>For this<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635> says<MH559>: ‘Once<MH259> more<MH5750> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>in a little<MH4592> while<MH4592>, I am going to shake<MH7493> the heavens<MH8064> and the earth<MH776>, the sea<MH3220> also and the dry<MH2724> land<MH2724>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/haggai/2-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>I will shake<MH7493> all<MH3605> the nations<MH1471>; and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>they will come<MH935> <i>with</i> the wealth<MH2532> of all<MH3605> nations<MH1471>, and I will fill<MH4390> this<MH2088> house<MH1004> with glory<MH3519b>,’ says<MH559> the LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/haggai/2-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>‘The silver<MH3701> is Mine and the gold<MH2091> is Mine,’ declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/haggai/2-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>‘The latter<MH314> glory<MH3519b> of this<MH2088> house<MH1004> will be greater<MH1419> than<MH4480> the former<MH7223>,’ says<MH559> the LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635>, ‘and in this<MH2088> place<MH4725> I will give<MH5414> peace<MH7965>,’ declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/haggai/2-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>On the twenty-fourth<MH6242, 702> of the ninth<MH8671> <i>month,</i> in the second<MH8147> year<MH8141> of Darius<MH1867>, the word<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068> came<MH1961> to Haggai<MH2292a> the prophet<MH5030>, saying<MH559>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/haggai/2-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>“The LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635> says<MH559> this<MH3541>: ‘Now<MH4994> ask<MH7592> the priests<MH3548> <i>for</i> a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>ruling<MH8451>: <span class="reftext"><a href="/haggai/2-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>If<MH2005> someone<MH376> carries<MH5375> holy<MH6944> meat<MH1320> in the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>fold<MH3671> of his garment<MH899b>, and touches<MH5060> bread<MH3899> with <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>this fold<MH3671>, or <i>touches</i> cooked<MH5138> food<MH5138>, wine<MH3196>, oil<MH8081>, or any<MH3605> <i>other</i> food<MH3978>, will it become<MH6942> holy<MH6942>?’” And the priests<MH3548> answered<MH6030a>, “No<MH3808>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/haggai/2-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Then Haggai<MH2292a> said<MH559>, “If<MH518> one who is unclean<MH2931> from a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>corpse<MH5315> touches<MH5060> any<MH3605> of these<MH428> <i>things,</i> will <i>the latter</i> become<MH2930> unclean<MH2930>?” And the priests<MH3548> answered<MH6030a>, “It will become<MH2930> unclean<MH2930>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/haggai/2-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Then Haggai<MH2292a> responded<MH6030> and said<MH559>, “‘So<MH3651> is this<MH2088> people<MH5971a>. And so<MH3651> is this<MH2088> nation<MH1471> before<MH6440> Me,’ declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, ‘and so<MH3651> is every<MH3605> work<MH4639> of their hands<MH3027>; and what<MH834> they offer<MH7126> there<MH8033> is unclean<MH2931>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/haggai/2-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>But now<MH6258>, do <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>consider<MH7760, 3824> from this<MH2088> day<MH3117> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>onward<MH4605>: before<MH4480, 2962> one stone<MH68> was placed<MH7760> on another<MH68> in the temple<MH1964> of the LORD<MH3068>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/haggai/2-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>from that time<MH1961> <i>when</i> one came<MH935> to a grain<MH6194> heap<MH6194> of twenty<MH6242> <i>measures,</i> there would be <i>only</i> ten<MH6235>; <i>and when</i> one came<MH935> to the wine<MH3342> vat<MH3342> to draw<MH2834> fifty<MH2572> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>measures<MH6333b>, there would be <i>only</i> twenty<MH6242>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/haggai/2-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>I struck<MH5221> you <i>and</i> every<MH3605> work<MH4639> of your hands<MH3027> with scorching<MH7711b> wind<MH7711b>, mildew<MH3420>, and hail<MH1259>; <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>yet you did not come back to Me,’ declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/haggai/2-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>‘Do <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>consider<MH7760, 3824> from this<MH2088> day<MH3117> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>onward<MH4605>, from the twenty-fourth<MH6242, 702> day<MH3117> of the ninth<MH8671> <i>month;</i> from the day<MH3117> when<MH834> the temple<MH1964> of the LORD<MH3068> was founded<MH3245>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>consider<MH7760, 3824>: <span class="reftext"><a href="/haggai/2-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Is the seed<MH2233> still<MH5750> in the barn<MH4035>? Even including<MH5704> the vine<MH1612>, the fig<MH8384> tree<MH8384>, the pomegranate<MH7416>, and the olive<MH2132> tree<MH6086>, it has not produced<MH5375> <i>fruit.
