And the cost<MH5313> is to be paid<MH3052> from the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>royal<MH4430> treasury<MH1005>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezra/6-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Also<MH638> the gold<MH1722> and silver<MH3702> utensils<MH3984> of the house<MH1005> of God<MH426>, which<MH1768> Nebuchadnezzar<MH5020> took<MH5312> from the temple<MH1965> in Jerusalem<MH3390> and brought<MH2987> to Babylon<MH895>, are to be returned<MH8421> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>brought<MH1981> to their places<MH870> in the temple<MH1965> in Jerusalem<MH3390>; and you shall put<MH5182> <i>them</i> in the house<MH1005> of God<MH426>.’ <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezra/6-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>“Now<MH3705> <i>as for you,</i> Tattenai<MH8674>, governor<MH6347> of <i>the province</i> beyond<MH5675> the <i>Euphrates</i> River<MH5103>, Shethar-bozenai<MH8370>, and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>your colleagues<MH3675>, the officials<MH671a> of <i>the provinces</i> beyond<MH5675> the River<MH5103>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>stay<MH7352> away<MH7352> from there<MH8536>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezra/6-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Leave<MH7662> that<MH1791> work<MH5673> on the house<MH1005> of God<MH426> alone<MH7662>; let the governor<MH6347> of the Jews<MH3062> and the elders<MH7868> of the Jews<MH3062> rebuild<MH1124> that<MH1791> house<MH1005> of God<MH426> on its site<MH870>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezra/6-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Furthermore, I issue<MH7761> a decree<MH2942> concerning what<MH4101, 1768> you are to do<MH5648> for these<MH479> elders<MH7868> of Judah<MH3062> in the rebuilding<MH1124> of that<MH1791> house<MH1005> of God<MH426>: the full<MH629> cost<MH5313> is to be paid<MH3052> to those<MH479> people<MH1400> from the royal<MH4430> treasury<MH5232> out of the taxes<MH4061> of <i>the provinces</i> beyond<MH5675> the <i>Euphrates</i> River<MH5103>, <i>and</i> that without<MH3809> interruption<MH989>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezra/6-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And whatever<MH4101> is needed<MH2819a>, bulls<MH8450, 1123>, rams<MH1798>, and lambs<MH563> for burnt<MH5928> offerings<MH5928> to the God<MH426> of heaven<MH8065>, and wheat<MH2591a>, salt<MH4416>, wine<MH2562>, and anointing<MH4887> oil<MH4887>, as the priests<MH3549> in Jerusalem<MH3390> order<MH3983>, <i>it</i> is to be given<MH3052> to them daily<MH3118> without<MH3809> fail<MH7960>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezra/6-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>so that they may offer<MH7127> acceptable<MH5208> sacrifices<MH5208> to the God<MH426> of heaven<MH8065> and pray<MH6739> for the lives<MH2417> of the king<MH4430> and his sons<MH1123>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezra/6-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And I issued<MH7761> a decree<MH2942> that any<MH3606> person<MH606> who<MH1768> violates<MH8133> this<MH1836> decree<MH6600>, a timber<MH636> shall be pulled<MH5256> out<MH5256> of his house<MH1005> and he shall be impaled<MH2211, 4223> on it; and his house<MH1005> shall be turned<MH5648> into a refuse<MH5122> heap<MH5122> on account<MH5922> of this<MH1836>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezra/6-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>May the God<MH426> who<MH1768> has caused His name<MH8036> to dwell<MH7932> there<MH8536> overthrow<MH4049> any<MH3606> king<MH4430> or people<MH5972> who<MH1768> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>attempts<MH7972, 3028> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>change<MH8133> <i>it,</i> so as to destroy<MH2255> that house<MH1005> of God<MH426> in Jerusalem<MH3390>. I, Darius<MH1868>, have issued<MH7761> <i>this</i> decree<MH2942>; <i>it</i> is to be carried<MH5648> out<MH5648> with all<MH629> diligence<MH629>!” <p class="hdg">The Temple Completed and Dedicated</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezra/6-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Then<MH116> Tattenai<MH8674>, the governor<MH6347> of <i>the province</i> beyond<MH5675> the <i>Euphrates</i> River<MH5103>, Shethar-bozenai<MH8370>, and their colleagues<MH3675> carried<MH5648> out<MH5648> <i>the decree</i> with all<MH629> diligence<MH629>, just<MH6903> as King<MH4430> Darius<MH1868> had <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>ordered<MH7972>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezra/6-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And the elders<MH7868> of the Jews<MH3062> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>were successful<MH6744> in building<MH1124> through the prophecy<MH5017> of Haggai<MH2292b> the prophet<MH5029> and Zechariah<MH2148b> the son<MH1247> of Iddo<MH5714>. And <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>they finished<MH3635> building<MH1124> following<MH4481> the command<MH2942> of the God<MH426> of Israel<MH3479> and the decree<MH2942> of Cyrus<MH3567>, Darius<MH1868>, and Artaxerxes<MH783b> king<MH4430> of Persia<MH6540>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezra/6-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Now this<MH1836> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>temple<MH1005> was completed<MH3319> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>on the third<MH8532> day<MH3118> of the month<MH3393> Adar<MH144>; it was the sixth<MH8353> year<MH8140> of the reign<MH4437> of King<MH4430> Darius<MH1868>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezra/6-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And the sons<MH1123> of Israel<MH3479>, the priests<MH3549>, the Levites<MH3879>, and the rest<MH7606> of the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>exiles<MH1123, 1547>, celebrated<MH5648> the dedication<MH2597> of this<MH1836> house<MH1005> of God<MH426> with joy<MH2305>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezra/6-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>They offered<MH7127> for the dedication<MH2597> of this<MH1836> temple<MH1005> of God<MH426> a hundred<MH3969> bulls<MH8450>, two<MH3969> hundred<MH3969> rams<MH1798>, four<MH702> hundred<MH3967> lambs<MH563>, and as a sin<MH2409> offering<MH2409> for all<MH3606> Israel<MH3479> twelve<MH8648, 6236> male<MH6841> goats<MH5796>, corresponding to the number<MH4510> of the tribes<MH7625> of Israel<MH3479>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezra/6-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Then they appointed<MH6966> the priests<MH3549> to their divisions<MH6392> and the Levites<MH3879> in their sections<MH4255a> for the service<MH5673> of God<MH426> in Jerusalem<MH3390>, as it is written<MH3792> in the Book<MH5609> of Moses<MH4873>. <p class="hdg">The Passover Held</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezra/6-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>The exiles<MH1121, 1473> held<MH6213a> the Passover<MH6453> on the fourteenth<MH702, 6240> of the first<MH7223> month<MH2320>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezra/6-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>For the priests<MH3548> and the Levites<MH3881> had purified<MH2891> themselves together<MH259>; all<MH3605> of them were pure<MH2889>.
