It is a county seat and archbishop’s residence, rich in historical monuments and cultural sights, a centre of education.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">In the morning visit the Basilica which is the only one Classicist building in Eger, and the second largest church in Hungary. Continue your trip under the Town, in the legendary cellar system of Eger (the visit is a must for wine lovers). Have lunch in a bistro with a playful elegant gastronomic experience, where local ingredients appear not just on the plate.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">In the afternoon visit the Castle of Eger. The Castle is a construction of great historical importance: it was here in 1552 where captain István Dobó and his toop repelled the attack of the thirty times bigger Sultan’s army led by Achmed pasha - chief commander. Also on the Calvary hill you can enjoy the view. The Major’s kitchen is marked with international Slow Food brand. Your lunch will be prepared only from organic products which mainly come from their horticulture, but they only buy controlled organic products such as spices, sugar and other ingredients which they are not able to produce. While the lunch is ready you should walk around the estate, visit the forest chapel, meet with the farm’s animals and get to know the history of the castle.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">After lunch visit a popular strudel shop in Poroszló.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">In the afternoon continue your tour in Mezőkövesd. Visit the Matyó Museum. Costumes, embroidery and woven fabrics are specific part of the museum’s collections – as well as tools, furnitures, and pots from peasant life. Also visit the Potter’s house and take a look at the pottery process. Egerszalók’s real attraction, on the southern side of the village, is the thermal spring erupting from deep in the earth and limestone hill created by water runoff, which over the years has come to be known as “salt hill.”<br/> The 65-68 C° medicinal water rich in mineral content continually builds jagged, white formations, offering an imposing spectacle.<br/> The medicinal water of calcium magnesium hydrogen carbonate also contains sodium and a significant amount of metasilicic acid, and has been ranked as one of the best in the sulphuric medicinal waters category. Over the years, the limestone hill has become a symbol and landmark of the surrounding area.
