The Greek word for "afraid" here is "δειλοί" (deiloi), which can also mean cowardly or timid. This word choice suggests not just a momentary fear but a deeper, more pervasive lack of courage. Historically, the Sea of Galilee was known for sudden and violent storms, which would naturally incite fear in even seasoned fishermen.
