They prostituted<MH2181> themselves in their youth<MH5271>; there<MH8033> their breasts<MH7699a> were squeezed<MH4600> and there<MH8033> their virgin<MH1331> breasts<MH1717> were handled<MH6213b>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-4.htm">4</a>Their names<MH8034> were Oholah<MH170> the elder<MH1419> and Oholibah<MH172> her sister<MH269>. And they became<MH1961> Mine, and they gave<MH3205> birth<MH3205> to sons<MH1121> and daughters<MH1323>. And as for their names<MH8034>, Samaria<MH8111> is Oholah<MH170> and Jerusalem<MH3389> is Oholibah<MH172>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-5.htm">5</a>“Oholah<MH170> prostituted<MH2181> herself <a href="#fn">[a]</a>while<MH8478> she was Mine<MH8478>; and she lusted<MH5689> after<MH5921> her lovers<MH157>, after<MH413> the Assyrians<MH804b>, her neighbors<MH7138>, <a href="/ezekiel/23-6.htm">6</a>who were clothed<MH3847> in purple<MH8504>, governors<MH6346> and officials<MH5461>, all<MH3605> of them handsome<MH2531> young<MH970> men<MH970>, horsemen<MH6571b> riding<MH7392> on horses<MH5483b>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-7.htm">7</a>She bestowed<MH5414> her <a href="#fn">[b]</a>obscene<MH8457> practices<MH8457> on them, all<MH3605> of whom were the choicest<MH4005> <a href="#fn">[c]</a>men<MH1121> of Assyria<MH804b>; and with all<MH3605> whom<MH834> she lusted<MH5689> after, with all<MH3605> their idols<MH1544> she defiled<MH2930> herself. <a href="/ezekiel/23-8.htm">8</a>She did not abandon<MH5800a> her obscene<MH8457> practices<MH8457> from the time in Egypt<MH4714>; for in her youth<MH5271> <a href="#fn">[d]</a>men had slept<MH7901> with her, and they handled<MH6213b> her virgin<MH1331> breasts<MH1717> and poured<MH8210> out<MH8210> their obscene<MH8457> practice<MH8457> on her. <a href="/ezekiel/23-9.htm">9</a>Therefore<MH3651>, I handed<MH5414, 3027> her over<MH5414> to her lovers<MH157>, to the <a href="#fn">[e]</a>Assyrians<MH1121, 804b>, after<MH5921> whom<MH834> she lusted<MH5689>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-10.htm">10</a>They uncovered<MH1540> her nakedness<MH6172>; they took<MH3947> her sons<MH1121> and her daughters<MH1323>, but they killed<MH2026> her with the sword<MH2719>. So she became<MH1961> a <a href="#fn">[f]</a>subject<MH8034> of<MH8034> gossip<MH8034> among women<MH802>, and they executed<MH6213a> judgments<MH8196> on her. <a href="/ezekiel/23-11.htm">11</a>“Now her sister<MH269> Oholibah<MH172> saw<MH7200> this, yet she was<MH7843> more<MH4480> corrupt<MH7843> in her lust<MH5691> than<MH4480> she, and her obscene<MH8457> practices<MH8457> were <a href="#fn">[g]</a>more<MH4480> than<MH4480> the prostitution<MH2183> of her sister<MH269>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-12.htm">12</a>She lusted<MH5689> after<MH413> the <a href="#fn">[h]</a>Assyrians<MH1121, 804b>, governors<MH6346> and officials<MH5461>, the ones<MH7138> near<MH7138>, opulently<MH4358> dressed<MH3847>, horsemen<MH6571b> riding<MH7392> on horses<MH5483b>, all<MH3605> of them handsome<MH2531> young<MH970> men<MH970>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-13.htm">13</a>And I saw<MH7200> that she had defiled<MH2930> herself; they both<MH8147> took <a href="#fn">[i]</a>the same<MH259> way<MH1870>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-14.htm">14</a>So she increased<MH3254> her obscene<MH8457> practices<MH8457>. And she saw<MH7200> men<MH376> carved<MH2707> on the wall<MH7023>, images<MH6754> of the Chaldeans<MH3778> drawn<MH2710> in bright<MH8350> red<MH8350>, <a href="/ezekiel/23-15.htm">15</a>wearing<MH2289> belts<MH232> around<MH2289> their waists<MH4975>, with flowing<MH5628> turbans<MH2871> on their heads<MH7218>, all<MH3605> of them looking<MH4758> like officers<MH7991c>, <a href="#fn">[j]</a>like<MH1823> the <a href="#fn">[k]</a>Babylonians<MH1121, 894> in Chaldea<MH3778>, the land<MH776> of their birth<MH4138>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-16.htm">16</a>And <a href="#fn">[l]</a>when she saw<MH4758, 5869> them she lusted<MH5689> after<MH5921> them and sent<MH7971> messengers<MH4397> to them in Chaldea<MH3778>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-17.htm">17</a>And the <a href="#fn">[m]</a>Babylonians<MH1121, 894> came<MH935> to her to the bed<MH4904> of love<MH1730> and defiled<MH2930> her with their obscene<MH8457> practice<MH8457>. And when she had been<MH2930> defiled<MH2930> by them, <a href="#fn">[n]</a>she turned<MH3363> away<MH3363> from them in<MH3363> disgust<MH3363>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-18.htm">18</a>She exposed<MH1540> her obscene<MH8457> practices<MH8457> and exposed<MH1540> her nakedness<MH6172>; then <a href="#fn">[o]</a>I turned<MH3363> away<MH3363> from her in<MH3363> disgust<MH3363>, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> <a href="#fn">[p]</a>I had turned<MH5361> away<MH5361> from her sister<MH269> in<MH5361> disgust<MH5361>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-19.htm">19</a>Yet she multiplied<MH7235a> her obscene<MH8457> practices<MH8457>, remembering<MH2142> the days<MH3117> of her youth<MH5271>, when<MH834> she prostituted<MH2181> herself in the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-20.htm">20</a>She lusted<MH5689> after<MH5921> their lovers<MH6370>, whose<MH834> flesh<MH1320> is like the flesh<MH1320> of donkeys<MH2543> and whose discharge<MH2231> is like the discharge<MH2231> of horses<MH5483b>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-21.htm">21</a>So you longed<MH6485> for<MH6485> the outrageous<MH2154> sin<MH2154> of your youth<MH5271>, when <a href="#fn">[q]</a>the Egyptians<MH4714> handled<MH6213b> your breasts<MH1717> because<MH4616> of the breasts<MH7699a> of your youth<MH5271>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-22.htm">22</a>“Therefore<MH3651>, Oholibah<MH172>, this<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the Lord<MH136> <a href="#fn">[r]</a>GOD<MH3068> says<MH559>: ‘Behold<MH2009> I am going to incite<MH5782> your lovers<MH157> against<MH5921> you, from whom<MH834> <a href="#fn">[s]</a>you turned<MH5361> away<MH5361> in<MH5361> disgust<MH5361>, and I will bring<MH935> them against<MH5921> you from every<MH5439> side<MH5439>: <a href="/ezekiel/23-23.htm">23</a>the <a href="#fn">[t]</a>Babylonians<MH1121, 894> and all<MH3605> the Chaldeans<MH3778>, Pekod<MH6489> and Shoa<MH7772> and Koa<MH6970>, and all<MH3605> the <a href="#fn">[u]</a>Assyrians<MH1121, 804b> with them; handsome<MH2531> young<MH970> men<MH970>, governors<MH6346> and officials<MH5461> all<MH3605> of them, officers<MH7991c> and <a href="#fn">[v]</a>men<MH7121> of<MH7121> renown<MH7121>, all<MH3605> of them riding<MH7392> on horses<MH5483b>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-24.htm">24</a>And they will come<MH935> against<MH5921> you with weapons<MH2021>, chariots<MH7393>, and <a href="#fn">[w]</a>wagons<MH1534>, and with a contingent<MH6951> of peoples<MH5971a>. They will attack<MH7760, 5921> you on every<MH5439> side<MH5439> with shield<MH6793c>, <a href="#fn">[x]</a>buckler<MH4043>, and helmet<MH6959>; and I will commit<MH5414> the judgment<MH4941> to them, and they will judge<MH8199> you according to their customs<MH4941>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-25.htm">25</a>I will set<MH5414> My jealousy<MH7068> against you, so that they may deal<MH6213a> with you in wrath<MH2534>. They will remove<MH5493> your nose<MH639> and your ears<MH241>; and your <a href="#fn">[y]</a>survivors<MH319> will fall<MH5307> by the sword<MH2719>. They will take<MH3947> your sons<MH1121> and your daughters<MH1323>; and your <a href="#fn">[z]</a>survivors<MH319> will be consumed<MH398> by the fire<MH784>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-26.htm">26</a>They will also strip<MH6584> you of your clothes<MH899b> and take<MH3947> away your beautiful<MH8597> jewelry<MH3627>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-27.htm">27</a>So I will remove<MH7673a> from you your outrageous<MH2154> sin<MH2154> and your prostitution<MH2184> that you brought from the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>, so that you will not raise<MH5375> your eyes<MH5869> to them or remember<MH2142> Egypt<MH4714> anymore<MH5750>.’ <a href="/ezekiel/23-28.htm">28</a>For this<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068> says<MH559>: ‘Behold<MH2009>, I am going to hand<MH5414, 3027> you over<MH5414> to those whom<MH834> you hate<MH8130>, to those from whom<MH834> <a href="#fn">[aa]</a>you turned<MH5361> away<MH5361> in<MH5361> disgust<MH5361>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-29.htm">29</a>They will deal<MH6213a> with you in hatred<MH8135>, take<MH3947> all<MH3605> your property<MH3018>, and leave<MH5800a> you naked<MH5903> and bare<MH6181>. And the nakedness<MH6172> of your prostitution<MH2183> will be exposed<MH1540>, both your outrageous<MH2154> sin<MH2154> and your obscene<MH8457> practices<MH8457>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-30.htm">30</a>These<MH428> things<MH428> will be done<MH6213a> to you because you have adulterously<MH2181> pursued<MH2181> the nations<MH1471>, because<MH5921, 834> you have defiled<MH2930> yourself with their idols<MH1544>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-31.htm">31</a>You have walked<MH1980> in the way<MH1870> of your sister<MH269>; therefore I will put<MH5414> her cup<MH3563a> in your hand<MH3027>.’ <a href="/ezekiel/23-32.htm">32</a>This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068> says<MH559>: ‘You will drink<MH8354> your sister’s<MH269> cup<MH3563a>, <t>Which is deep<MH6013> and wide<MH7342>. <t><a href="#fn">[ab]</a>You will be laughed<MH6712> at and held in derision<MH3933>; <t>Because it contains<MH3557> much<MH4767>. <poetry><a href="/ezekiel/23-33.htm">33</a>‘You will be filled<MH4390> with drunkenness<MH7943> and grief<MH3015>, <t>A cup<MH3563a> of horror<MH8047> and desolation<MH8077>, <t>The cup<MH3563a> of your sister<MH269> Samaria<MH8111>. <poetry><a href="/ezekiel/23-34.htm">34</a>‘And you will drink<MH8354> it and drain<MH4680> it. <t>Then you will gnaw<MH1633b> on its fragments<MH2789> <t>And tear<MH5423> your breasts<MH7699a>; for I have spoken<MH1696>,’ declares<MH5002> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-35.htm">35</a>Therefore<MH3651>, this<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068> says<MH559>: ‘Because<MH3282> you have forgotten<MH7911> Me and discarded<MH7993> Me behind<MH310> your back<MH1458>, suffer<MH5375> on your own part<MH1571> the punishment for your outrageous<MH2154> sin<MH2154> and your obscene<MH8457> practices<MH8457>.’” <a href="/ezekiel/23-36.htm">36</a>Moreover, the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to me, “Son<MH1121> of man<MH120>, will you judge<MH8199> Oholah<MH170> and Oholibah<MH172>? Then declare<MH5046> to them their abominations<MH8441>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-37.htm">37</a>For they have committed<MH5003> adultery<MH5003>, and blood<MH1818> is on their hands<MH3027>. So they have committed<MH5003> adultery<MH5003> with their idols<MH1544>, and even<MH1571> made their sons<MH1121>, whom<MH834> they bore<MH3205> to Me, pass<MH5674a> through<MH5674a> the fire to <a href="#fn">[ac]</a>them as food<MH402>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-38.htm">38</a>Again<MH5750>, they have done<MH6213a> this<MH2088> to Me: they have defiled<MH2930> My sanctuary<MH4720> on the same<MH1931> day<MH3117>, and have profaned<MH2490c> My Sabbaths<MH7676>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-39.htm">39</a>For when they slaughtered<MH7819> their children<MH1121> for their idols<MH1544>, they entered<MH935> My sanctuary<MH4720> on the same<MH1931> day<MH3117> to profane<MH2490c> it; and behold<MH2009>, this<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> they did<MH6213a> within<MH8432> My house<MH1004>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-40.htm">40</a>“Furthermore<MH637>, <a href="#fn">[ad]</a>they have even<MH3588> sent<MH7971> for men<MH376> who come<MH935> from a great<MH4801> distance<MH4801>, to whom<MH834> a messenger<MH4397> was sent<MH7971>; and behold<MH2009>, they came<MH935>—for whom<MH834> you bathed<MH7364>, put<MH3583> makeup<MH3583> on your eyes<MH5869>, and adorned<MH5710b> yourselves<MH5710b> with jewelry<MH5716>; <a href="/ezekiel/23-41.htm">41</a>and you sat<MH3427> on a splendid<MH3519a> couch<MH4296> with a table<MH7979> arranged<MH6186a> in front<MH6440> of it on which you had set<MH7760> My incense<MH7004> and My oil<MH8081>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-42.htm">42</a>And the sound<MH6963> of a <a href="#fn">[ae]</a>carefree<MH7961> multitude<MH1995> was with her; and heavy<MH5433b> drinkers<MH5433b> were brought<MH935> from the wilderness<MH4057b> with people<MH376> from the multitude<MH7230> of humanity<MH120>. And they put<MH5414> bracelets<MH6781a> on <a href="#fn">[af]</a>the wrists<MH3027> of the women and beautiful<MH8597> crowns<MH5850> on their heads<MH7218>. <a href="/ezekiel/23-43.htm">43</a>“Then I said<MH559> concerning her who was worn<MH1087> out<MH1087> by adulteries<MH5004>, ‘<a href="#fn">[ag]</a>Will they now<MH6258> commit<MH2181> adultery<MH2181> with her when she is like this?’ <a href="/ezekiel/23-44.htm">44</a><a href="#fn">[ah]</a>But they went<MH935> in<MH935> to her as they would go<MH935> in<MH935> to a prostitute<MH2181>.
