Universities see combating espionage as a matter for the government.<br /> <br /> The AIVD warned in a report that by recruiting foreign students, universities were playing into the hands of governments that would like to spy on the Netherlands. The universities of Delft, Twente and Eindhoven were said to be particularly vulnerable because of their focus on fields like nuclear technology, nanotechnology and biotechnology. <br /> <br /> Ben de Jong of the University of Amsterdam, an expert on intelligence services, says the idea of a looming spy threat is by no means far-fetched.
