Migratory Species 2015-2023 (Consultation Draft 2)</a></p> <p><strong>April 2013: </strong><a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20140823065557/http://www.cms.int/en/document/strategic-plan-migratory-species-2015-2023-draft-skeleton-consultation-april-2013" target="_blank">The Strategic Plan for Migratory Species 2015-2023 (Draft Skeleton for consultation)</a></p> <h3>Background</h3> <p>The Strategic Plan Working Group decided that the 2015-2023 Strategic Plan would cover <u>migratory species in general</u> and thus:</p> <ul><li>Focus on the issue, not the CMS instruments;</li> <li>Support the entire CMS Family of instruments; and</li> <li>Encourage efforts by all towards the conservation of migratory species.</li> </ul><p>In addition to supporting CMS instruments, the Strategic Plan for Migratory Species will therefore also serve as a guiding framework for all those working towards conserving migratory species.</p> <p>The new Strategic Plan will be based on the approach used in the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011 – 2020 and its Aichi Biodiversity Targets, which reaches out to everyone working to conserve and sustainably use biodiversity.</p> <p>By using this approach, the Strategic Plan for Migratory Species will, in particular:</p> <ul><li>Benefit from the existing political visibility and support for biodiversity in general, at national, regional and global levels;</li> <li>Highlight how conservation of migratory species will contribute to the delivery of the Aichi Biodiversity Targets and how those Targets in turn will contribute to the objectives for conserving migratory species;</li> <li>Tap into existing supporting mechanisms (e.g. on capacity building, NBSAP revisions, Aichi Target 20 on resource mobilization, and activities in the UN Decade for Biodiversity (UN General Assembly Resolution 65/161));</li> <li>Develop targets specific to migratory species, using the Aichi Targets as guidance without being restricted by them, so as to retain migratory species’ identity and added value.</li> </ul></div></div></div> <span
