and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>she happened<MH7136a, 4745> to<MH7136a> come<MH7136a> to the portion<MH2513a> of the field<MH7704> belonging to Boaz<MH1162>, who<MH834> was of the family<MH4940> of Elimelech<MH458>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ruth/2-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>Now behold<MH2009>, Boaz<MH1162> came<MH935> from Bethlehem<MH1035> and said<MH559> to the reapers<MH7114b>, “May the LORD<MH3068> be with you.” And they said<MH559> to him, “May the LORD<MH3068> bless<MH1288> you.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/ruth/2-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Then Boaz<MH1162> said<MH559> to his servant<MH5288> who was<MH5324> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>in<MH5324, 5921> charge<MH5324, 5921> of the reapers<MH7114b>, “Whose<MH4310> young<MH5291> woman<MH5291> is this<MH2088>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/ruth/2-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And the servant<MH5288> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>in<MH5324, 5921> charge<MH5324, 5921> of the reapers<MH7114b> replied<MH6030a>, “She is the young<MH5291> Moabite<MH4125> woman<MH5291> who returned<MH7725> with Naomi<MH5281> from the land<MH7704> of Moab<MH4124>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ruth/2-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And she said<MH559>, ‘Please<MH4994> let me glean<MH3950> and gather<MH622> after<MH310> the reapers<MH7114b> among the sheaves<MH6016a>.’ So she came<MH935> and has remained<MH5975> from the morning<MH1242> until<MH5704> now<MH6258>; she has been sitting<MH3427> in the house<MH1004> for a little<MH4592> while<MH4592>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ruth/2-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Then Boaz<MH1162> said<MH559> to Ruth<MH7327>, “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>Listen<MH8085> carefully<MH3808>, my daughter<MH1323>. Do not go<MH1980> to glean<MH3950> in another<MH312> field<MH7704>; furthermore<MH1571>, do not go<MH5674a> on<MH5674a> from this<MH2088> one<MH2088>, but join<MH1692, 5973> my young<MH5291> women<MH5291> here<MH3541>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ruth/2-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span><i>Keep</i> your eyes<MH5869> on the field<MH7704> which<MH834> they reap<MH7114b>, and go<MH1980> after<MH310> them. Indeed<MH3808>, I have ordered<MH6680> the servants<MH5288> not to touch<MH5060> you. When you are<MH6770> thirsty<MH6770>, go<MH1980> to the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>water<MH3627> jars<MH3627> and drink<MH8354> from what<MH834> the servants<MH5288> draw<MH7579>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/ruth/2-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Then she fell<MH5307> on her face<MH6440>, bowing<MH2331c> to the ground<MH776>, and said<MH559> to him, “Why<MH4069> have I found<MH4672> favor<MH2580> in your sight<MH5869> that you should take<MH5234> notice<MH5234> of me, since I am a foreigner<MH5237>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/ruth/2-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Boaz<MH1162> replied<MH6030a> to her, “All<MH3605> that you have done<MH6213a> for your mother-in-law<MH2545> after<MH310> the death<MH4194> of your husband<MH376> has been fully<MH5046> reported<MH5046> to me, and how you left<MH5800a> your father<MH1> and your mother<MH517> and the land<MH776> of your birth<MH4138>, and came<MH1980> to a people<MH5971a> that you did not previously<MH8543, 8032a> know<MH3045>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ruth/2-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>May the LORD<MH3068> reward<MH7999a> your <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>work<MH6467>, and may your wages<MH4909> be full<MH8003> from the LORD<MH3068>, the God<MH430> of Israel<MH3478>, under<MH8478> whose<MH834> wings<MH3671> you have come<MH935> to take<MH2620> refuge<MH2620>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/ruth/2-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Then she said<MH559>, “I have found<MH4672> favor<MH2580> in your sight<MH5869>, my lord<MH113>, for you have comforted<MH5162> me and indeed<MH3588> have spoken<MH1696> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>kindly<MH3820> to your servant<MH8198>, though I am<MH1961> not like one<MH259> of your female<MH8198> servants<MH8198>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ruth/2-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And at mealtime<MH6256, 400> Boaz<MH1162> said<MH559> to her, “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>Come<MH5066> here<MH1988>, that you may eat<MH398> of the bread<MH3899> and dip<MH2881> your piece<MH6595> of<MH6595> bread<MH6595> in the vinegar<MH2558>.” So she sat<MH3427> beside<MH4480, 6654> the reapers<MH7114b>; and he served<MH6642> her roasted<MH7039> grain<MH7039>, and she ate<MH398> and was<MH7646> satisfied<MH7646> and had<MH3498> some left<MH3498>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ruth/2-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>When she got<MH6965> up<MH6965> to glean<MH3950>, Boaz<MH1162> commanded<MH6680> his servants<MH5288>, saying<MH559>, “Let her glean<MH3950> even<MH1571> among<MH996> the sheaves<MH6016a>, and do not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>insult<MH3637> her. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ruth/2-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Also<MH1571> you are to purposely<MH7997a> slip<MH7997a> out<MH7997a> for her <i>some grain</i> from the bundles<MH6653> and leave<MH5800a> <i>it</i> so that she may glean<MH3950>, and do not rebuke<MH1605> her.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ruth/2-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>So she gleaned<MH3950> in the field<MH7704> until<MH5704> evening<MH6153>. Then she beat<MH2251> out<MH2251> what<MH834> she had gleaned<MH3950>, and it was about an <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>ephah<MH374> of barley<MH8184>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ruth/2-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And she picked<MH5375> <i>it</i> up<MH5375> and went<MH935> into the city<MH5892b>, and her mother-in-law<MH2545> saw<MH7200> what<MH834> she had gleaned<MH3950>. She also took<MH3318> <i>some</i> out<MH3318> and gave<MH5414> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>Naomi what<MH834> she had<MH3498> left<MH3498> after<MH4480> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>she was satisfied<MH7648>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ruth/2-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Her mother-in-law<MH2545> then said<MH559> to her, “Where<MH375> did you glean<MH3950> today<MH3117> and where<MH575> did you work<MH6213a>? May he who took<MH5234> notice<MH5234> of you be blessed<MH1288>.” So she told<MH5046> her mother-in-law<MH2545> with whom<MH834> she had worked<MH6213a>, and said<MH559>, “The name<MH8034> of the man<MH376> with whom<MH834> I worked<MH6213a> today<MH3117> is Boaz<MH1162>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/ruth/2-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Naomi<MH5281> said<MH559> to her daughter-in-law<MH3618>, “May he be blessed<MH1288> of the LORD<MH3068> who<MH834> has not withdrawn<MH5800a> His kindness<MH2617a> from the living<MH2416a> and from the dead<MH4191>.” Again Naomi<MH5281> said<MH559> to her, “The man<MH376> is our relative<MH7138>; he is one of our redeemers<MH1350>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/ruth/2-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Then Ruth<MH7327> the Moabitess<MH4125> said<MH559>, “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>Furthermore<MH1571>, he said<MH559> to me, ‘You are to stay<MH1692> close<MH1692> to my servants<MH5288> until<MH5704, 518> they have finished<MH3615> all<MH3605> my harvest<MH7105a>.’” <span class="reftext"><a href="/ruth/2-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And Naomi<MH5281> said<MH559> to her daughter-in-law<MH3618> Ruth<MH7327>, “It is good<MH2896a>, my daughter<MH1323>, that you go<MH3318> out<MH3318> with his young<MH5291> women<MH5291>, so that <i>others</i> do not assault<MH6293> you in another<MH312> field<MH7704>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/ruth/2-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>So she stayed<MH1692> close<MH1692> by the young<MH5291> women<MH5291> of Boaz<MH1162> in order to glean<MH3950> until<MH5704> the end<MH3615> of the barley<MH8184> harvest<MH7105a> and the wheat<MH2406> harvest<MH7105a>.
