Moshe said to them, “Why are you arguing with me and why are you tempting LORD JEHOVAH?” <A name="4"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/17-3.htm#aramaic"><b>3</b></a></span>And there the people were thirsty for water and the people complained against Moshe and they said to him, “Why have you brought us out from Egypt to kill us, us and our children and our animals with thirst?” <A name="5"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/17-4.htm#aramaic"><b>4</b></a></span>And Moshe prayed before LORD JEHOVAH and he said, “What shall I do for this people, for in a little bit they will stone me?” <A name="6"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/17-5.htm#aramaic"><b>5</b></a></span>And LORD JEHOVAH said to Moshe: “Pass before the people and take with you some Elders of Israel, and take your staff in your hand with which you struck the river, and go. <A name="7"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/17-6.htm#aramaic"><b>6</b></a></span>And behold, I am standing there before you on the flint in Khoreeb, and strike the flint and water shall come out from it and the people will drink.” And Moshe did in this way before the eyes of the Elders of the children of Israel. <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/17-7.htm#aramaic"><b>7</b></a></span>And he called the name of that country Nasa and Meriba, because the children of Israel contended and because they tested LORD JEHOVAH and they said, “If LORD JEHOVAH is with us or not?”<p> <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/17-8.htm#aramaic"><b>8</b></a></span>And Amaleq came to make war with Israel in Raphidin. <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/exodus/17-9.htm#aramaic"><b>9</b></a></span>And Moshe said to Yeshua, “Choose for you men and come out;
