However, there is a gap between the transformed deterministic constraints in case of known and unknown probability distribution. This paper examines the conservativeness of probabilistic constrained optimization method with the unknown probability distribution. The objective of this paper is to provide a quantitative assessment of the conservatism for tractable constraints in probabilistic constrained optimization with the unknown probability distribution. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optimal%20control" title="optimal control">optimal control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stochastic%20systems" title=" stochastic systems"> stochastic systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=discrete%20time%20systems" title=" discrete time systems"> discrete time systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=probabilistic%20constraints" title=" probabilistic constraints"> probabilistic constraints</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/35585/conservativeness-of-probabilistic-constrained-optimal-control-method-for-unknown-probability-distribution" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/35585.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">580</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1226</span> Business Constraints and Growth Potential of Smes: Case Study of Electrical Industry in Pakistan</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Waseem%20Akram">Muhammad Waseem Akram</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The current study attempts to analyze the impact of business constraints on the growth potential and performance of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the electrical industry of Pakistan. Primary data have been utilized for the study collected from the electrical industry cluster in Sargodha, Pakistan. OLS regression is used to assess the impact of business constraints on the performance of SMEs by controlling the effect of Technology Level, Innovations, and Firm Size. To associate business constraints with the growth potential of SMEs, the study utilized Tetrachoric Correlation and Logistic Regression. Findings reveal that all the business constraints negatively affect the performance of SMEs in the electrical industry except Political Instability. Results of Tetrachoric Correlation show that all the business constraints are negatively correlated with the growth potential of SMEs. Logistic Regression results show that Energy Constraint, Inflation and Price Instability, and Bad Business Practices, all three business constraints cause to reduce the probability of income growth in sample SMEs. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SMEs" title="SMEs">SMEs</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=business%20constraints" title=" business constraints"> business constraints</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=performance" title=" performance"> performance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=growth%20potential" title=" growth potential"> growth potential</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/119139/business-constraints-and-growth-potential-of-smes-case-study-of-electrical-industry-in-pakistan" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/119139.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">169</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1225</span> Preserving Privacy in Workflow Delegation Models</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Noha%20Nagy">Noha Nagy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hoda%20Mokhtar"> Hoda Mokhtar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20El%20Sherkawi"> Mohamed El Sherkawi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The popularity of workflow delegation models and the increasing number of workflow provenance-aware systems motivate the need for finding more strict delegation models. Such models combine different approaches for enhanced security and respecting workflow privacy. Although modern enterprises seek conformance to workflow constraints to ensure correctness of their work, these constraints pose a threat to security, because these constraints can be good seeds for attacking privacy even in secure models. This paper introduces a comprehensive Workflow Delegation Model (WFDM) that utilizes provenance and workflow constraints to prevent malicious delegate from attacking workflow privacy as well as extending the delegation functionalities. In addition, we argue the need for exploiting workflow constraints to improve workflow security models. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=workflow%20delegation%20models" title="workflow delegation models">workflow delegation models</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=secure%20workflow" title=" secure workflow"> secure workflow</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=workflow%20privacy" title=" workflow privacy"> workflow privacy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=workflow%20provenance" title=" workflow provenance"> workflow provenance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/47106/preserving-privacy-in-workflow-delegation-models" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/47106.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">332</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1224</span> Portfolio Selection with Constraints on Trading Frequency</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Min%20Dai">Min Dai</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hong%20Liu"> Hong Liu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shuaijie%20Qian"> Shuaijie Qian</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> We study a portfolio selection problem of an investor who faces constraints on rebalancing frequency, which is common in pension fund investment. We formulate it as a multiple optimal stopping problem and utilize the dynamic programming principle. By numerically solving the corresponding Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation, we find a series of free boundaries characterizing optimal strategy, and the constraints significantly impact the optimal strategy. Even in the absence of transaction costs, there is a no-trading region, depending on the number of the remaining trading chances. We also find that the equivalent wealth loss caused by the constraints is large. In conclusion, our model clarifies the impact of the constraints on transaction frequency on the optimal strategy. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=portfolio%20selection" title="portfolio selection">portfolio selection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rebalancing%20frequency" title=" rebalancing frequency"> rebalancing frequency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optimal%20strategy" title=" optimal strategy"> optimal strategy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=free%20boundary" title=" free boundary"> free boundary</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optimal%20stopping" title=" optimal stopping"> optimal stopping</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/171745/portfolio-selection-with-constraints-on-trading-frequency" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/171745.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">88</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1223</span> Design of Visual Repository, Constraint and Process Modeling Tool Based on Eclipse Plug-Ins</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rushiraj%20Heshi">Rushiraj Heshi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Smriti%20Bhandari"> Smriti Bhandari</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Master Data Management requires creation of Central repository, applying constraints on Repository and designing processes to manage data. To reduce job stress, employees of casino hotels try to perform leisure activities or tourism. However, casino employees often meet many obstacles or constraints when they plan to travel. Until now, there is little understanding as to why casino hotel employees often face many travel constraints or leisure barriers. What is more, few studies explore the relationship between travel constraints and job stress of casino employees. Therefore, this study is to explore the construct of casino hotel employees' travel constraints and the relationship among job stress, travel constraints, and job satisfaction. Using convenient sampling method, this study planned to investigate 500 front line employees and managers of ten casino hotels in Macau. A total of 500 questionnaires were distributed, and 414 valid questionnaires were received. The return rate of valid questionnaires is 82.8%. Several statistical techniques such as factor analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and regression analysis were applied to analyze the collected data. The findings of this study are as follows. Firstly, by using factor analysis, this study found the travel constraints of casino employees include intrapersonal constraints, interpersonal constraints, and structural constraints. Secondly, by using regression analysis, the study found travel constraints are positively related with job stress while negatively related with job satisfaction. This means reducing travel constraints may create a chance for casino employees to travel so that they could reduce job stress, therefore raise their job satisfaction. Thirdly, this research divided the research samples into three groups by the degree of job stress. The three groups are low satisfaction group, medium satisfaction group, and high satisfaction group. The means values of these groups were compared by t-test. Results showed that there are significant differences of the means values of interpersonal constraints between low satisfaction group and high satisfaction group. This suggests positive interpersonal relationship especially good family member relationship reduce not only job stress but also travel constraints of casino employees. Interestingly, results of t-test showed there is not a significant difference of the means values of structural constraints between low satisfaction group and high satisfaction group. This suggests structural constraints are outside variables which may be related with tourism destination marketing. Destination marketing organizations (DMO) need use all kinds of tools and techniques to promote their tourism destinations so as to reduce structural constraints of casino employees. This research is significant for both theoretical and practical fields. From the theoretical perspective, the study found the internal relationship between travel constraints, job stress, and job satisfaction and the different roles of three dimensions of travel constraints. From the practical perspective, the study provides useful methods to reduce travel constraints and job stress, therefore, raise job satisfaction of casino employees. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hotel" title="hotel">hotel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=job%20satisfaction" title=" job satisfaction"> job satisfaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=job%20stress" title=" job stress"> job stress</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=travel%20constraints" title=" travel constraints"> travel constraints</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/66715/exploring-the-relationship-among-job-stress-travel-constraints-and-job-satisfaction-of-the-employees-in-casino-hotels-the-case-of-macau" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/66715.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">251</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1221</span> Modeling of Production Lines Systems with Layout Constraints</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sadegh%20Abebi">Sadegh Abebi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> There are problems with estimating time of product process of products, especially when there is variable serving time, like control stage. The unconstrained local priority hysteresis switching logic is examined and conditions for global convergence are derived. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=adaptive%20control" title="adaptive control">adaptive control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=convergence" title=" convergence"> convergence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hysteresis%20constant" title=" hysteresis constant"> hysteresis constant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hysteresis%20switching" title=" hysteresis switching"> hysteresis switching</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61209/relaxing-convergence-constraints-in-local-priority-hysteresis-switching-logic" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61209.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">393</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1219</span> A Social Network Analysis for Formulating Construction Defect Generation Mechanisms</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hamad%20Aljassmi">Hamad Aljassmi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sangwon%20Han"> Sangwon Han</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Various solutions for preventing construction defects have been suggested. In these techniques, design process starts by parameterizing the important features of design models (typically the key dimensions), with the implementation of design constraints. The design constraints help to retain the overall shape of the model while modifying its parameters. However, the process of initializing an appropriate number of design parameters and constraints is the crucial part of parametric design techniques, especially for complex surface models such as yacht hull. This paper introduces a method to create complex surface models in favor of parametric design techniques, a method to define the right number of parameters and respective design constraints, and a system to implement design parameters in contract to design constraints schema. For this, in our proposed approach the design process starts by dividing the yacht hull into three sections. Each section consists of different shape lines, which form the overall shape of yacht hull. The shape lines are created using Cubic Bezier Curves, which allow larger design flexibility. Design parameters and constraints are defined on the shape lines in 3D design space to facilitate the designers for better and individual handling of parameters. Afterwards, shape modifiers are developed, which allow the modification of each parameter while satisfying the respective set of criteria and design constraints. Such as, geometric continuities should be maintained between the shape lines of the three sections, fairness of the hull surfaces should be preserved after modification and while design modification, effect of a single parameter should be negligible on other parameters. The constraints are defined individually on shape lines of each section and mutually between the shape lines of two connecting sections. In order to validate and visualize design results of our shape modifiers, a real time graphic interface is created. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=design%20parameter" title="design parameter">design parameter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=design%20constraints" title=" design constraints"> design constraints</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shape%20modifies" title=" shape modifies"> shape modifies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=yacht%20hull" title=" yacht hull"> yacht hull</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/52949/cad-tool-for-parametric-design-modification-of-yacht-hull-surface-models" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/52949.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">301</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1217</span> Analysis of Information Sharing and Capacity Constraint on Backlog Bullwhip Effect in Two Level Supply Chain</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Matloub%20Hussaina">Matloub Hussaina </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper investigates the impact of information sharing and capacity constraints on backlog bullwhip effect of Automatic Pipe Line Inventory and Order Based Production Control System (APIOBPCS). Botswana government has also identified dairy as one of the agricultural sectors towards diversification of the mineral dependent economy of the country. The huge gap between local demand and supply of milk and milk products indicated that there are not only constraints but also; opportunities exist in this sub sector of agriculture. Therefore, this study was an attempt to identify constraints and opportunities in dairy production industry in Botswana. The possible ways to mitigate the constraints were also identified. The findings should assist the stakeholders especially, policy makers in the formulation of effective policies for the growth of dairy sector in the country. This quantitative study adopted a survey research design. A final survey followed by a pilot survey was conducted for data collection. The purpose of the pilot survey was to collect basic information on the nature and extent of the constraints, opportunities and ways to mitigate the constraints in dairy production. Based on the information from pilot survey, a four point Likert’s scale type questionnaire was constructed, validated and tested for its reliability. The data for the final survey were collected from purposively selected twenty five dairy farms. The descriptive statistical tools were employed to analyze data. Among the twelve constraints identified; high feed costs, feed shortage and availability, lack of technical support, lack of skilled manpower, high prevalence of pests and diseases and, lack of dairy related technologies were the six major constraints in dairy production. Grain feed production, roughage feed production, manufacturing of dairy feed, establishment of milk processing industry and, development of transportation systems were the five major opportunities among the eight opportunities identified. Increasing production of animal feed locally, increasing roughage feed production locally, provision of subsidy on animal feed, easy access to sufficient financial support, training of the farmers and, effective control of pests and diseases were identified as the six major ways to mitigate the constraints. It was recommended that the identified constraints and opportunities as well as the ways to mitigate the constraints need to be carefully considered by the stakeholders especially, policy makers during the formulation and implementation of the policies for the development of dairy sector in Botswana. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dairy%20enterprise" title="dairy enterprise">dairy enterprise</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=milk%20production" title=" milk production"> milk production</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=opportunities" title=" opportunities"> opportunities</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=production%20constraints" title=" production constraints"> production constraints</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/36858/analysis-of-constraints-and-opportunities-in-dairy-production-in-botswana" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/36858.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">404</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1215</span> A Comparative Study of GTC and PSP Algorithms for Mining Sequential Patterns Embedded in Database with Time Constraints</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Safa%20Adi">Safa Adi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper will consider the problem of sequential mining patterns embedded in a database by handling the time constraints as defined in the GSP algorithm (level wise algorithms). Biological constraints on learning refer to the limitations observed in conditioning procedures, where learning is expected to occur. The study involved simulations of five different experiments exploring various phenomena and sources of biological constraints in learning. These simulations included the interaction between response and reinforcer, stimulus and reinforcer, specificity of stimulus-reinforcer associations, species differences, neuroanatomical constraints, and learning in uncontrolled conditions. The overall results demonstrated that by manipulating neural network architectures, conditions can be created to model and explain diverse biological constraints frequently reported in comparative psychology literature as learning typicities. Additionally, the simulations offer predictive content worthy of experimental testing in the pursuit of new discoveries regarding the specificity of learning. The implications and limitations of these findings are discussed. Finally, it is suggested that this research could inaugurate a line of inquiry involving the use of neural networks to study biological factors in behavior, fostering the development of more ethical and precise research practices. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=comparative%20psychology" title="comparative psychology">comparative psychology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=connectionism" title=" connectionism"> connectionism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=conditioning" title=" conditioning"> conditioning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=experimental%20analysis%20of%20behavior" title=" experimental analysis of behavior"> experimental analysis of behavior</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neural%20networks" title=" neural networks"> neural networks</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/174102/comparative-connectionism-study-of-the-biological-constraints-of-learning-through-the-manipulation-of-various-architectures-in-a-neural-network-model-under-the-biological-principle-of-the-correlation-between-structure-and-function" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/174102.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">71</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1213</span> Job Shop Scheduling: Classification, Constraints and Objective Functions</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Majid%20Abdolrazzagh-Nezhad">Majid Abdolrazzagh-Nezhad</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Salwani%20Abdullah"> Salwani Abdullah</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The job-shop scheduling problem (JSSP) is an important decision facing those involved in the fields of industry, economics and management. This problem is a class of combinational optimization problem known as the NP-hard problem. JSSPs deal with a set of machines and a set of jobs with various predetermined routes through the machines, where the objective is to assemble a schedule of jobs that minimizes certain criteria such as makespan, maximum lateness, and total weighted tardiness. Over the past several decades, interest in meta-heuristic approaches to address JSSPs has increased due to the ability of these approaches to generate solutions which are better than those generated from heuristics alone. How long the ONUs can sleep without violating the delay constraint has become a research problem. Particularly, we can derive an analytical model to determine the optimal sleep time of ONUs in every cycle without violating the maximum class delay constraint. The bandwidth allocation considering such optimal sleep time is called Green Bandwidth Allocation (GBA). Although the GBA mechanism guarantees that the different class delay constraints do not violate the maximum class delay constraint, packets with a more relaxed delay constraint will be treated as those with the most stringent delay constraint and may be sent early. This means that the ONU will waste energy in active mode to send packets in advance which did not need to be sent at the current time. Accordingly, we proposed a QoS-aware GBA using a novel intra-ONU scheduling to control the packets to be sent according to their respective delay constraints, thereby enhancing energy efficiency without deteriorating delay performance. If packets are not explicitly classified but with different packet delay constraints, we can modify the intra-ONU scheduling to classify packets according to their packet delay constraints rather than their classes. Moreover, we propose the switchable ONU architecture in which the ONU can switch the architecture according to the sleep time length, thus improving energy efficiency in the QoS-aware GBA. The simulation results show that the QoS-aware GBA ensures that packets in different classes or with different delay constraints do not violate their respective delay constraints and consume less power than the original GBA. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Passive%20Optical%20Networks" title="Passive Optical Networks">Passive Optical Networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PONs" title=" PONs"> PONs</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Optical%20Network%20Unit" title=" Optical Network Unit"> Optical Network Unit</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ONU" title=" ONU"> ONU</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy%20efficiency" title=" energy efficiency"> energy efficiency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=delay%20constraint" title=" delay constraint"> delay constraint</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/94624/quality-of-service-aware-green-bandwidth-allocation-in-ethernet-passive-optical-network" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/94624.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">284</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1211</span> Nurse Schedule Problem in Mubarak Al Kabeer Hospital</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Khaled%20Al-Mansour">Khaled Al-Mansour</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nawaf%20Esmael"> Nawaf Esmael</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdulaziz%20Al-Zaid"> Abdulaziz Al-Zaid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammed%20Al%20Ateeqi"> Mohammed Al Ateeqi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ali%20Al-Yousfi"> Ali Al-Yousfi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sayed%20Al-Zalzalah"> Sayed Al-Zalzalah</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this project we will create the new schedule of nurse according to the preference of them. First constraints were found to know what things we can change and what things we can’t, the hard constraints are the hospital and ministry policies where we can’t change anything about, and the soft constraints are things that make nurses more comfortable. Data were collected and nurses were interviewed to know what is more better for them. All these constraints and date have been formulated to mathematical equations. Based on the model predictive control approach, the objective of this paper is to present a control method that satisfies probabilistic state constraints for linear discrete-time feedback control systems with random dither quantization. In other words, this paper provides a method for solving the optimal control problems subject to probabilistic state constraints for linear discrete-time feedback control systems with random dither quantization. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optimal%20control" title="optimal control">optimal control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stochastic%20systems" title=" stochastic systems"> stochastic systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=random%20dither" title=" random dither"> random dither</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quantization" title=" quantization"> quantization</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/63970/stochastic-model-predictive-control-for-linear-discrete-time-systems-with-random-dither-quantization" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/63970.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">444</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1208</span> A Survey on the Requirements of University Course Timetabling</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nurul%20Liyana%20Abdul%20Aziz">Nurul Liyana Abdul Aziz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nur%20Aidya%20Hanum%20Aizam"> Nur Aidya Hanum Aizam</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Course timetabling problems occur every semester in a university which includes the allocation of resources (subjects, lecturers and students) to a number of fixed rooms and timeslots. The assignment is carried out in a way such that there are no conflicts within rooms, students and lecturers, as well as fulfilling a range of constraints. The constraints consist of rules and policies set up by the universities as well as lecturers&rsquo; and students&rsquo; preferences of courses to be allocated in specific timeslots. This paper specifically focuses on the preferences of the course timetabling problem in one of the public universities in Malaysia. The demands will be considered into our existing mathematical model to make it more generalized and can be used widely. We have distributed questionnaires to a number of lecturers and students of the university to investigate their demands and preferences for their desired course timetable. We classify the preferences thus converting them to construct one mathematical model that can produce such timetable. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=university%20course%20timetabling%20problem" title="university course timetabling problem">university course timetabling problem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=integer%20programming" title=" integer programming"> integer programming</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=preferences" title=" preferences"> preferences</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=constraints" title=" constraints"> constraints</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50024/a-survey-on-the-requirements-of-university-course-timetabling" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50024.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">366</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1207</span> Optimality Conditions and Duality for Semi-Infinite Mathematical Programming Problems with Equilibrium Constraints, Using Convexificators</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shashi%20Kant%20Mishra">Shashi Kant Mishra</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, we consider semi-infinite mathematical programming problems with equilibrium constraints (SIMPEC). While various research institutions have come up with a number of innovative post-harvest technologies for reducing post-harvest losses, most of them have not been extensively adopted by smallholder farmers. Despite this gap, the synthesized information about the major constraints of post-harvest technology is scarce. This study has been conducted to fill this gap and show the implications of the findings for future post-harvest research. The developed search strategy retrieved 2201 studies. However, after excluding duplicates, title, abstract and full article screening, a total of 41 documents were identified. The major findings are: (i) there is an outstanding deficiency of systematic evidence of the effect of climate change, off-farm income and sources of post-harvest information on the adoption of improved post-harvest technologies; (ii) there is very limited information on adoption constraints pertaining to matters of policy, rules and regulations; (iii) there is very thin literature on behavioral constraints associated with limited adoption of improved post-harvest technologies; (iv) most of the studies focused on post-harvest storage technologies (47%) followed by overall post-harvest management practices (25%), processing technologies (19%) and packaging technologies (3%). Much of the information was found on Cereals (58%), especially maize (44%); (v) geographically, Sub-Saharan Africa accounted for 79% of the reviewed interventions, while South Asia occupied only 21%. The findings of this review are intended to guide various post-harvest technologists and decision-makers in addressing the challenge of huge post-harvest losses. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=constraints" title="constraints">constraints</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=post-harvest%20loss" title=" post-harvest loss"> post-harvest loss</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=post-harvest%20technology" title=" post-harvest technology "> post-harvest technology </a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=smallholder%20farmer" title=" smallholder farmer"> smallholder farmer</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/138228/major-constraints-to-adoption-of-improved-post-harvest-technologies-among-smallholder-farmers-in-developing-countries-a-systematic-review" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/138228.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">235</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1205</span> Evolution under Length Constraints for Convolutional Neural Networks Architecture Design</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ousmane%20Youme">Ousmane Youme</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jean%20Marie%20Dembele"> Jean Marie Dembele</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eugene%20Ezin"> Eugene Ezin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christophe%20Cambier"> Christophe Cambier</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In recent years, the convolutional neural networks (CNN) architectures designed by evolution algorithms have proven to be competitive with handcrafted architectures designed by experts. However, these algorithms need a lot of computational power, which is beyond the capabilities of most researchers and engineers. To overcome this problem, we propose an evolution architecture under length constraints. It consists of two algorithms: a search length strategy to find an optimal space and a search architecture strategy based on a genetic algorithm to find the best individual in the optimal space. Our algorithms drastically reduce resource costs and also keep good performance. On the Cifar-10 dataset, our framework presents outstanding performance with an error rate of 5.12% and only 4.6 GPU a day to converge to the optimal individual -22 GPU a day less than the lowest cost automatic evolutionary algorithm in the peer competition. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CNN%20architecture" title="CNN architecture">CNN architecture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=genetic%20algorithm" title=" genetic algorithm"> genetic algorithm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=evolution%20algorithm" title=" evolution algorithm"> evolution algorithm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=length%20constraints" title=" length constraints"> length constraints</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/154373/evolution-under-length-constraints-for-convolutional-neural-networks-architecture-design" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/154373.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">128</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1204</span> Optimal Peer-to-Peer On-Orbit Refueling Mission Planning with Complex Constraints</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jing%20Yu">Jing Yu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hongyang%20Liu"> Hongyang Liu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dong%20Hao"> Dong Hao</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> On-Orbit Refueling is of great significance in extending space crafts&#39; lifetime. Constraints including perturbation, communication link, sun illumination, hold points for different rendezvous phases, and sensor switching are considered. A planning model has established as well as a two-level solution method. The upper level deals with target assignment based on fuel equilibrium criterion, while the lower level solves constrained trajectory optimization using special maneuver strategies. This paper presents an overview of qualitative research on how language teachers exercise their agency in diverse classrooms. The analysis of the literature reveals that language teachers strive for addressing students’ needs and challenging educational inequalities, but experience educational constraints in enacting their agency. The examination of the research on language teacher agency identifies four major areas where language teachers experience challenges in enacting their agency: (1) implementing curriculum; (2) adopting school reforms and policies; (3) engaging in professional learning; (4) and negotiating various identities as professionals. The practical contribution of this literature review is that it provides a much-needed compilation of the studies on how language teachers exercise agency amid educational constraints. The discussion of the overview points to the importance of teacher identity, learner advocacy, and continuous professional learning and the critical need of promoting empowerment, activism, and transformation in language teacher education. The findings of the overview indicate that language teacher education programs should prepare teachers to be active advocates for English language learners and guide teachers to become more conscious of complexities of teaching in constrained educational settings so that they can become agentic professionals. This literature overview illustrates agency work in English language teaching contexts and contributes to understanding of the important link between experiencing educational constraints and development of teacher agency. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=advocacy" title="advocacy">advocacy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=educational%20constraints" title=" educational constraints"> educational constraints</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=language%20teacher%20agency" title=" language teacher agency"> language teacher agency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=language%20teacher%20education" title=" language teacher education"> language teacher education</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95706/language-teachers-exercising-agency-amid-educational-constraints-an-overview-of-the-literature" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95706.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">177</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1202</span> Energy-Aware Scheduling in Real-Time Systems: An Analysis of Fair Share Scheduling and Priority-Driven Preemptive Scheduling</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Su%20Xiaohan">Su Xiaohan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jin%20Chicheng"> Jin Chicheng</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Liu%20Yijing"> Liu Yijing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Burra%20Venkata%20Durga%20Kumar"> Burra Venkata Durga Kumar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Energy-aware scheduling in real-time systems aims to minimize energy consumption, but issues related to resource reservation and timing constraints remain challenges. This study focuses on analyzing two scheduling algorithms, Fair-Share Scheduling (FFS) and Priority-Driven Preemptive Scheduling (PDPS), for solving these issues and energy-aware scheduling in real-time systems. Based on research on both algorithms and the processes of solving two problems, it can be found that Fair-Share Scheduling ensures fair allocation of resources but needs to improve with an imbalanced system load, and Priority-Driven Preemptive Scheduling prioritizes tasks based on criticality to meet timing constraints through preemption but relies heavily on task prioritization and may not be energy efficient. Therefore, improvements to both algorithms with energy-aware features will be proposed. Future work should focus on developing hybrid scheduling techniques that minimize energy consumption through intelligent task prioritization, resource allocation, and meeting time constraints. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy-aware%20scheduling" title="energy-aware scheduling">energy-aware scheduling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fair-share%20scheduling" title=" fair-share scheduling"> fair-share scheduling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=priority-driven%20preemptive%20scheduling" title=" priority-driven preemptive scheduling"> priority-driven preemptive scheduling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=real-time%20systems" title=" real-time systems"> real-time systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optimization" title=" optimization"> optimization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=resource%20reservation" title=" resource reservation"> resource reservation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=timing%20constraints" title=" timing constraints"> timing constraints</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/169550/energy-aware-scheduling-in-real-time-systems-an-analysis-of-fair-share-scheduling-and-priority-driven-preemptive-scheduling" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/169550.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">119</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1201</span> Constraints and Opportunities of Wood Production Value Chain: Evidence from Southwest Ethiopia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abduselam%20Faris">Abduselam Faris</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rijalu%20Negash"> Rijalu Negash</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zera%20Kedir"> Zera Kedir</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study was initiated to identify constraints and opportunities of the wood production value chain in Southwest Ethiopia. About 385 wood trees growing farmers were randomly interviewed. Similarly, about 30 small-scale wood processors, 30 retailers, 15 local collectors and 5 wholesalers were purposively included in the study. The results of the study indicated that 98.96 % of the smallholder farmers that engaged in the production of wood trees which is used for wood were male-headed, with an average age of 46.88 years. The main activity that the household engaged was agriculture (crop and livestock) which accounts for about 61.56% of the sample respondents. Through value chain mapping of actors, the major value chain participant and supporting actors were identified. On average, the tree-growing farmers generated gross income of 9385.926 Ethiopian birr during the survey year. Among the critical constraints identified along the wood production value chain was limited supply of credit, poor market information dissemination, high interference of brokers, and shortage of machines, inadequate working area and electricity. The availability of forest resources is the leading opportunity in the wood production value chain. Reinforcing the linkage among wood production value chain actors, providing skill training for small-scale processors, and developing suitable policy for wood tree wise use is key recommendations forward. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=value%20chain%20analysis" title="value chain analysis">value chain analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wood%20production" title=" wood production"> wood production</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=southwest%20Ethiopia" title=" southwest Ethiopia"> southwest Ethiopia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=constraints%20and%20opportunities" title=" constraints and opportunities"> constraints and opportunities</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/150339/constraints-and-opportunities-of-wood-production-value-chain-evidence-from-southwest-ethiopia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/150339.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">94</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1200</span> Transfer of Constraints or Constraints on Transfer? However, the Mainland Scandinavian languages has been known to provide counterexamples. Previous research on Danish has shown that neither relative clauses nor embedded questions are strong islands in Danish. Instead, extraction from this type of syntactic environment is degraded due to structural complexity and it interacts with nonstructural factors such as the frequency of occurrence of the matrix verb, the possibility of temporary misanalysis leading to semantic incongruity and exposure over time. We argue that these facts can be accounted for with parametric variation in the availability of CP-recursion, resulting in the patterns observed, as Danish would then “suspend” the ban on movement out of relative clauses and embedded questions. Given that Danish does not seem to adhere to allegedly universal syntactic constraints, such as the Complex NP Constraint and the Wh-Island Constraint, what happens in L2 English? We present results from a study investigating how native Danish speakers judge extractions from island structures in L2 English. Our findings suggest that Danes transfer their native language parameter setting when asked to judge island constructions in English. This is compatible with the Full Transfer Full Access Hypothesis, as the latter predicts that Danish would have difficulties resetting their [+/- CP-recursion] parameter in English because they are not exposed to negative evidence. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=syntax" title="syntax">syntax</a>, <a
