For I too<MG2532> am<MG1510> an Israelite<MG2475a>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>a descendant<MG4690> of Abraham<MG11>, of the tribe<MG5443> of Benjamin<MG958>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>God<MG2316> has not rejected<MG683> His people<MG2992> whom<MG3739> He foreknew<MG4267>. Or<MG2228> do you not know<MG3609a> what<MG5101> the Scripture<MG1124> says<MG3004> in <i>the passage about</i> Elijah<MG2243>, how<MG5613> he pleads<MG1793> with God<MG2316> against<MG2596> Israel<MG2474>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>“Lord<MG2962>, THEY HAVE KILLED<MG615> YOUR PROPHETS<MG4396>, THEY HAVE TORN<MG2679> DOWN<MG2679> YOUR ALTARS<MG2379>, AND I ALONE<MG3441> AM LEFT<MG5275b>, AND THEY ARE SEEKING<MG2212> MY LIFE<MG5590>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>But what<MG5101> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>is the divine<MG5538> response<MG5538> to him? “I HAVE KEPT<MG2641> for Myself<MG1683> SEVEN<MG2035> THOUSAND<MG2035> MEN<MG435> WHO<MG3748> HAVE NOT BOWED<MG2578> THE KNEE<MG1119> TO BAAL<MG896>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>In the same<MG3779> way<MG3779> then<MG3767>, there has also<MG2532> come<MG1096> to be at the present<MG3568> time<MG2540> a remnant<MG3005> according<MG2596> to <i>God’s</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>gracious<MG5485> choice<MG1589>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>But if<MG1487> <i>it is</i> by grace<MG5485>, <i>it is</i> no<MG3765> longer<MG3765> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>on the basis<MG1537> of works<MG2041>, since<MG1893> <i>otherwise</i> grace<MG5485> is no<MG3765> longer<MG3765> grace<MG5485>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>What<MG5101> then<MG3767>? What<MG5101> Israel<MG2474> is seeking<MG1934>, it has not obtained<MG2013>, but <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>those<MG1589> who were chosen<MG1589> obtained<MG2013> it, and the rest<MG3062> were hardened<MG4456>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>just<MG2509> as<MG2509> it is written<MG1125>: <p class="indent1stline">“GOD<MG2316> GAVE<MG1325> THEM A SPIRIT<MG4151> OF STUPOR<MG2659>, <t><p class="indent1">EYES<MG3788> TO SEE<MG991> NOT AND EARS<MG3775> TO HEAR<MG191> NOT, <t><p class="indent1">DOWN<MG2193> TO<MG2193> THIS<MG4594> VERY<MG4594> DAY<MG2250>.” <A><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And David<MG1160b> says<MG3004>, <p class="indent1stline">“MAY THEIR TABLE<MG5132> BECOME<MG1096> A SNARE<MG3803> AND A TRAP<MG2339>, <t><p class="indent1">AND A STUMBLING<MG4625> BLOCK<MG4625> AND A RETRIBUTION<MG468> TO THEM. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>“MAY THEIR EYES<MG3788> BE DARKENED<MG4654> TO SEE<MG991> NOT, <t><p class="indent1">AND BEND<MG4781> THEIR BACKS<MG3577> CONTINUALLY<MG1223, 3956>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>I say<MG3004> then<MG3767>, they did not stumble<MG4417> so<MG2443> as<MG2443> to fall<MG4098>, did they? <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>Far<MG3361> from<MG3361> it! But by their wrongdoing<MG3900> salvation<MG4991> <i>has come</i> to the Gentiles<MG1484>, to make<MG3863> them jealous<MG3863>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> if<MG1487> their wrongdoing<MG3900> <i>proves to be</i> riches<MG4149> for the world<MG2889>, and their failure<MG2275>, riches<MG4149> for the Gentiles<MG1484>, how<MG4214> much<MG4214> more<MG3123> <i>will</i> their <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>fulfillment<MG4138> <i>be!</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>But I am speaking<MG3004> to you who are Gentiles<MG1484>. Therefore<MG3767> insofar<MG1909, 3745> as I am<MG1510> an apostle<MG652> of Gentiles<MG1484>, I magnify<MG1392> my ministry<MG1248> <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>if<MG1487> somehow<MG4458> I may move<MG3863> my <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>own<MG4561> people<MG4561> to<MG3863> jealousy<MG3863> and save<MG4982> some<MG5100> of them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>For if<MG1487> their rejection<MG580> <i>proves to be</i> the reconciliation<MG2643> of the world<MG2889>, what<MG5101> <i>will their</i> acceptance<MG4356> <i>be</i> but life<MG2222> from the dead<MG3498>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>If<MG1487> the first<MG536> piece<MG536> <i>of dough</i> is holy<MG40>, the lump<MG5445> is also<MG2532>; and if<MG1487> the root<MG4491> is holy<MG40>, the branches<MG2798> are as<MG2532> well<MG2532>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>But if<MG1487> some<MG5100> of the branches<MG2798> were broken<MG1575> off<MG1575>, and you, being<MG1510> a wild<MG65> olive<MG65>, were grafted<MG1461b> in<MG1461b> among<MG1722> them and became<MG1096> partaker<MG4791> with them of the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>rich<MG4096> root<MG4491> of the olive<MG1636> tree<MG1636>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>do not be arrogant<MG2620> toward<MG2620> the branches<MG2798>; but if<MG1487> you are arrogant<MG2620>, <i>remember that</i> it is not you who supports<MG941> the root<MG4491>, but the root<MG4491> <i>supports</i> you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>You will say<MG3004> then<MG3767>, “Branches<MG2798> were broken<MG1575> off<MG1575> so<MG2443> that<MG2443> I might be grafted<MG1461b> in<MG1461b>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Quite<MG2573> right<MG2573>, they were broken<MG1575> off<MG1575> for their unbelief<MG570>, but you stand<MG2476> by your faith<MG4102>. Do not be<MG5426> conceited<MG5426, 5308>, but fear<MG5399>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>for if<MG1487> God<MG2316> did not spare<MG5339> the natural<MG5449> branches<MG2798>, He will not spare<MG5339> you, either<MG3761>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>See<MG3708> then<MG3767> the kindness<MG5544> and severity<MG663> of God<MG2316>: to those<MG3588> who fell<MG4098>, severity<MG663>, but to you, God’s<MG2316> kindness<MG5544>, if<MG1437> you continue<MG1961> in His kindness<MG5544>; for<MG1893> otherwise<MG1893> you too<MG2532> will be cut<MG1581> off<MG1581>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And they also<MG2548>, if<MG1437> they do not continue<MG1961> in their unbelief<MG570>, will be grafted<MG1461b> in<MG1461b>; for God<MG2316> is able<MG1415> to graft<MG1461b> them in<MG1461b> again<MG3825>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>For if<MG1437> you were cut<MG1581> off<MG1581> from what<MG65> is by nature<MG5449> a wild<MG65> olive<MG65> tree<MG65>, and contrary<MG3844> to nature<MG5449> were grafted<MG1461b> into a cultivated<MG2565> olive<MG2565> tree<MG2565>, how<MG4214> much<MG4214> more<MG3123> will these<MG3778> who<MG3588> are the natural<MG2596, 5449> <i>branches</i> be grafted<MG1461b> into their own<MG2398> olive<MG1636> tree<MG1636>? <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>For I do not want<MG2309> you, brothers<MG80> <i>and sisters,</i> to be uninformed<MG50> of this<MG3778> mystery<MG3466>—so<MG2443> that<MG2443> you will not be wise<MG5429> in your own<MG1438> estimation<MG1438>—that a partial<MG3313> hardening<MG4457> has happened<MG1096> to Israel<MG2474> until<MG891> the fullness<MG4138> of the Gentiles<MG1484> has come<MG1525> in<MG1525>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>and so<MG3779> all<MG3956> Israel<MG2474> will be saved<MG4982>; just<MG2531a> as<MG2531a> it is written<MG1125>: <p class="indent1stline">“THE DELIVERER<MG4506> WILL COME<MG2240> FROM ZION<MG4622>, <t><p class="indent1">HE WILL REMOVE<MG654> UNGODLINESS<MG763> FROM JACOB<MG2384>.” <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>“THIS<MG3778> IS <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>MY COVENANT<MG1242> WITH THEM, <t><p class="indent1">WHEN<MG3752> I TAKE<MG851> AWAY<MG851> THEIR SINS<MG266>.” <A><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>In<MG2596> relation<MG2596> to<MG2596> the gospel<MG2098> <i>they are</i> enemies<MG2190> on<MG1223> your account<MG1223>, but in<MG2596> relation<MG2596> to<MG2596> <i>God’s</i> choice<MG1589> <i>they are</i> beloved<MG27> on<MG1223> account<MG1223> of the fathers<MG3962>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>for the gifts<MG5486> and the calling<MG2821> of God<MG2316> are irrevocable<MG278>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>For just<MG5618> as you once<MG4218> were disobedient<MG544> to God<MG2316>, but now<MG3568> have been shown<MG1653> mercy<MG1653> because of their disobedience<MG543>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>so<MG3779> these<MG3778> also<MG2532> now<MG3568> have been disobedient<MG544>, that because of the mercy<MG1656> shown to you they also<MG2532> may now<MG3568> be shown<MG1653> mercy<MG1653>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>For God<MG2316> has shut<MG4788> up<MG4788> all<MG3956> in disobedience<MG543>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> He may show<MG1653> mercy<MG1653> to all<MG3956>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>Oh<MG5599>, the depth<MG899> of the riches<MG4149>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>both<MG2532> of the wisdom<MG4678> and knowledge<MG1108> of God<MG2316>! How<MG5613> unsearchable<MG419> are His judgments<MG2917> and unfathomable<MG421> His ways<MG3598>! <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>For WHO<MG5101> HAS KNOWN<MG1097> THE MIND<MG3563> OF THE LORD<MG2962>, OR<MG2228> WHO<MG5101> BECAME<MG1096> HIS COUNSELOR<MG4825>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>Or<MG2228> WHO<MG5101> HAS FIRST<MG4272> GIVEN<MG4272> TO HIM, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>THAT IT WOULD BE PAID<MG467> BACK<MG467> TO HIM? <span class="reftext"><a href="/romans/11-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>For from Him, and through<MG1223> Him, and to Him are all<MG3956> things<MG3956>.
