Scheduled for December 2024</h2><p>We are excited to provide an update on the upcoming upgrade to TSpace. The upgrade is now scheduled to go live during the <strong>first week of December 2024.</strong></p><p><strong>Key Dates to remember:</strong></p><ul> <li><strong>Submission Freeze:</strong> To prepare for the migration, all new content submissions will be paused for approximately one week, beginning on November 26, 2024.</li> <li><strong>Downtime:</strong> Expect a brief period of system downtime, approximately one day, during the first week of December 2024.</li></ul><p>We will provide advance notice of any disruptions on this page.</p><p><strong>Questions? </strong> <br>Please contact us at <a href="mailto:tspace@library.utoronto.ca">tspace@library.utoronto.ca</a></p><p>We appreciate your patience as we work to enhance TSpace!</p><hr /><h2>February 2024 - We’re upgrading TSpace in Summer 2024</h2><p>We’re upgrading TSpace in Summer 2024, to a new version of its <a href="https://dspace.lyrasis.org/about/" target="_blank">DSpace software platform.</a> This upgrade represents a step towards the development of a national Institutional Repository service, in partnership with Scholars Portal and the Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL). </p><p><strong>What will change? </strong> <br> The new version of DSpace, the software behind TSpace, will be hosted by Scholars Portal. Most of the changes are on the administrative side, but you will see some layout and format changes to the TSpace homepage, help pages, search results, and other pages. A few features, such as the map on the TSpace homepage will be discontinued. </p><p><strong>What won’t change? </strong> <br> Our institutional repository service is not changing as a result of this upgrade. All TSpace content will remain securely housed, preserved and made available through TSpace, just as it is now. If you’re a TSpace content provider, you will continue to manage your content in the same way, and our TSpace policies will not change. </p><p><strong>What’s next? </strong> <br> Please watch this space for news as the TSpace software upgrade work progresses. We plan to finish this migration by the summer of 2024. TSpace will remain available for your use and content upload throughout the upgrade, with brief downtime (approximately one day) expected during the final phase. Any downtime expected will be announced in advance. <br>We are also emailing all TSpace content providers about these changes. </p><p><strong>Questions? </strong> <br>Please let us know at <a href="mailto:tspace@library.utoronto.ca">tspace@library.utoronto.ca</a></p><hr /><h2>March 2022 - TSpace repository celebrates 100,000 open access materials</h2><p>At the beginning of 2022, TSpace repository celebrated a big milestone – over 100,000 items in its holdings. These items see over 7 million downloads each year.</p><p>The repository was established by the University of Toronto Libraries in 2003 to collect, preserve, and openly disseminate U of T scholarship. It holds articles, theses, working papers, book chapters, conference presentations, and many other scholarly and pedagogical materials created at U of T. Submissions are welcome from faculty, students, and staff.</p><p>The key benefit of TSpace is the persistent identifiers it assigns to all items. They ensure that item links won’t break, and citations will always point to the cited document. Work submitted to TSpace has priority search engine indexing meaning higher discoverability and visibility for U of T research.</p><p>Over the past 5 years repository holdings grew by 66%. In large part this growth was facilitated by automated deposit workflows set up with publishers, such as Canadian Science Publishing, BioMed Central, Hindawi, and others.</p><p>In parallel, the TSpace team has also been offering <a href="https://tspace.library.utoronto.ca/help/firsttimeusers.jsp" target="_blank" rel="noopener">assisted deposit service</a> to faculty members who need to comply with SSHRC, NSERC, or CIHR open access requirements for publications. This service is made possible through collaboration with several departmental libraries. Researchers also have an option to submit materials themselves.</p><p>TSpace team celebrated the 100,000 item milestone by rolling out a feature often requested by readers and authors. While the vast majority of TSpace items are openly accessible right away, a small portion stays under a temporary embargo to satisfy publishers’ sharing requirements. Previously such items were completely hidden – but now TSpace displays item information and embargo expiration date. This allows for better transparency for authors who seek to comply with funders’ open access mandates by depositing materials in TSpace within 12 months of publication. Full text copies of embargoed articles are available through the library subscriptions.</p><p>We invite anyone at U of T interested in showcasing their research via TSpace to <a href="mailto:tspace@library.utoronto.ca" target="_blank" rel="noopener">get in touch with the TSpace team</a>.</p><hr /><h2>August 2020 - Check journal self-archiving policies using the updated Sherpa Romeo publisher permission database</h2><p><a href="https://v2.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sherpa Romeo</a> is an online database maintained by Jisc that brings together publisher self-archiving policies from around the world. We use it frequently to help researchers establish whether an article can be deposited in TSpace, and we encourage authors to check journal policies prior to publication.</p><p>This summer Sherpa Romeo database got a makeover.</p><p><strong>To help U of T authors check journal policies, we have released an <strong class="fas fa-video"> </strong><a href="https://play.library.utoronto.ca/play/d38f665108765d9396ef4cadf7fe71dc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">updated video tutorial on how to check publisher permissions for self-archiving.</a></strong></p><p>As before, we are available to help with permission checking and TSpace deposits for Tri-Agency Open Access Policy compliance - <a href="mailto:tspace@library.utoronto.ca" target="_blank" rel="noopener">contact us</a> to find out more.</p><hr /><h2>APRIL 2019 - Take advantage of TSpace assisted deposit for Tri-Agency Open Access Policy compliance</h2><p>TSpace team continues offering assisted deposit service to help U of T affiliated <strong>CIHR, SSHRC, and NSERC grant recipients</strong> with meeting the requirements of the <a href="http://www.science.gc.ca/eic/site/063.nsf/eng/h_F6765465.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tri-Agency Open Access Policy on Publications</a>. This policy applies to all grants awarded by <strong>NSERC or SSHRC from May 1, 2015</strong> and onward; and by <strong>CIHR from January 1, 2008</strong> and onward.</p><p>To take advantage of the assisted deposit service, please <a href="mailto:tspace@library.utoronto.ca" target="_blank" rel="noopener">email us</a> with:</p><ol> <li>Accepted manuscript versions* of your grant-funded publications, and</li> <li>Signed <a href="https://tspace.library.utoronto.ca/about/documents/depositagreement.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mediated Deposit Agreement</a></li></ol><p><em>*Publisher copyright policies are more likely to permit the deposit of an accepted manuscript rather than the final article version. The homepage map is updated every few seconds to reflect the current usage.</p><p>We have also improved stats display for individual items, collections, and communities.
