Instead of sending people *INTO* the disaster area, they should be talking about the telephony infrastructure that would create the ability to route overflow calls to a regional or statewide pool of 9-1-1 operators. I agree that the country needs to encourage use of English, but an emergency, possibly a life and death situation, in a City that is predominantly Hispanic doesn't seem like the place to get pissy about it. We need all citizens to speak and understand English. Our great country the USA used to expect immigrants to learn english and become American citizens. Now legal/illegal who cares? Well some of us do! If I went to another country and I had trouble I wouldn't expect special treatment including them to understand my English. Either learn English or go back to your native country. I'm sure the money spent on bilingual education could be better used for bus tickets.
