The Foundation accomplishes its charitable goals by making grants to deserving nonprofits throughout the U.S. and matching donations made to charities by Yelp employees up to $1,000 per person per year. The Foundation has given more than $7 million to charity since it was founded in 2011. </p> <p>By funding the Foundation through a gift of Yelp stock, the impact of the Foundation’s endowment continues to multiply. A general operating grant of this magnitude is magical, affording us fiscal flexibility and headway to deepen our work and impact. With the Yelp Foundation’s support, we worked with 4,500 students in the Bay Area and provided 1,700 hours of student programming with the assistance of 500 trained volunteers— all focused on building writing skills, confidence, creativity, and self-expression. In addition, these funds enabled us to launch a brand new after school program at Buena Vista Horace Mann K-8 school, where over 75% of our students made more than a year's growth in reading skills over the course of five months.
