But what's distracting to one person is full of interest to another, and that is what the editor saw in the winning photo: woman, camera, arm extended, hand on hip, official badge, interesting fireplace, man in shorts, painted toenails, f-u-n.</p> <p>Think "original." Cookie cutter photos might not cut it. If the editors have seen it once, they've seen it a thousand times already. The readers of National Geographic magazine must want to turn to that page every month and be surprised and delighted.</p> <p>Think "human emotions." Does the photo bring a smile to your face? Or, horror? Or, disgust? Or, sorrow? Or, awe? Or, hope? Or, surprise? Or, ... you get the picture.</p> <p>Send it in early.
