Maintenance procedure done before a failure is called preventive maintenance (PM). Sequential PM, which specifies that a system should be maintained at a sequence of intervals with unequal lengths, is one of the commonly used PM policies. This article proposes a generalized sequential PM policy for a system subject to shocks with imperfect maintenance and random working time. The shocks arrive according to a non-homogeneous Poisson process (NHPP) with varied intensity function in each maintenance interval. As a shock occurs, the system suffers two types of failures with number-dependent probabilities: type-I (minor) failure, which is rectified by a minimal repair, and type-II (catastrophic) failure, which is removed by a corrective maintenance (CM). The imperfect maintenance is carried out to improve the system failure characteristic due to the altered shock process. The sequential preventive maintenance-last (PML) policy is defined as that the system is maintained before any CM occurs at a planned time Ti or at the completion of a working time in the i-th maintenance interval, whichever occurs last. At the N-th maintenance, the system is replaced rather than maintained. This article first takes up the sequential PML policy with random working time and imperfect maintenance in reliability engineering. The optimal preventive maintenance schedule that minimizes the mean cost rate of a replacement cycle is derived analytically and determined in terms of its existence and uniqueness. The proposed models provide a general framework for analyzing the maintenance policies in reliability theory. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optimization" title="optimization">optimization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=preventive%20maintenance" title=" preventive maintenance"> preventive maintenance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=random%20working%20time" title=" random working time"> random working time</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=minimal%20repair" title=" minimal repair"> minimal repair</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=replacement" title=" replacement"> replacement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reliability" title=" reliability"> reliability</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68500/optimal-sequential-scheduling-of-imperfect-maintenance-last-policy-for-a-system-subject-to-shocks" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/68500.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">275</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19756</span> Distributed Cost-Based Scheduling in Cloud Computing Environment</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rupali">Rupali</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anil%20Kumar%20Jaiswal"> Anil Kumar Jaiswal</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Cloud computing can be defined as one of the prominent technologies that lets a user change, configure and access the services online. it can be said that this is a prototype of computing that helps in saving cost and time of a user practically the use of cloud computing can be found in various fields like education, health, banking etc. &nbsp;Cloud computing is an internet dependent technology thus it is the major responsibility of Cloud Service Providers(CSPs) to care of data stored by user at data centers. Scheduling in cloud computing environment plays a vital role as to achieve maximum utilization and user satisfaction cloud providers need to schedule resources effectively. &nbsp;Job scheduling for cloud computing is analyzed in the following work. To complete, recreate the task calculation, and conveyed scheduling methods CloudSim3.0.3 is utilized. This research work discusses the job scheduling for circulated processing condition also by exploring on this issue we find it works with minimum time and less cost. In this work two load balancing techniques have been employed: &lsquo;Throttled stack adjustment policy&rsquo; and &lsquo;Active VM load balancing policy&rsquo; with two brokerage services &lsquo;Advanced Response Time&rsquo; and &lsquo;Reconfigure Dynamically&rsquo; to evaluate the VM_Cost, DC_Cost, Response Time, and Data Processing Time. The proposed techniques are compared with Round Robin scheduling policy. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=physical%20machines" title="physical machines">physical machines</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=virtual%20machines" title=" virtual machines"> virtual machines</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=support%20for%20repetition" title=" support for repetition"> support for repetition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=self-healing" title=" self-healing"> self-healing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=highly%20scalable%20programming%20model" title=" highly scalable programming model"> highly scalable programming model</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/102401/distributed-cost-based-scheduling-in-cloud-computing-environment" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/102401.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">168</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19755</span> Temperature Dependent Tribological Properties of Graphite</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pankaj%20Kumar%20Das">Pankaj Kumar Das</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Niranjan%20Kumar"> Niranjan Kumar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Prasun%20Chakraborti"> Prasun Chakraborti</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Temperature dependent tribologiocal properties of nuclear grade turbostatic graphite were studied using 100Cr6 steel counterbody. High value of friction coefficient (0.25) and high wear loss was observed at room temperature and this value decreased to 0.1 at 150oC. Consequently, wear loss is also decreased. Such behavior is explained by oxidation/vaporization of graphite and water molecules. At room temperature, the adsorbed water in graphite does not decompose and effect of passivation mechanism does not work. However, at 150oC, the water decomposed into OH, atomic hydrogen and oxygen which efficiently passivates the carbon dangling bonds. This effect is known to decrease the energy of the contact and protect against abrasive wear. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=high%20temperature%20tribology" title="high temperature tribology">high temperature tribology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=oxidation" title=" oxidation"> oxidation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=turbostratic%20graphite" title=" turbostratic graphite"> turbostratic graphite</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wear" title=" wear "> wear </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26767/temperature-dependent-tribological-properties-of-graphite" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26767.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">514</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19754</span> Numerical Investigation of Hybrid Ferrofluid Unsteady Flow through Porous Channel</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wajahat%20Hussain%20Khan">Wajahat Hussain Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Zubair%20Akbar%20Qureshi"> M. As microfabrication technology getting better, the size of MGT is getting smaller. Overall performance of MGT is dependent on the individual components. Each component’s performance is dependent and interrelated with another component. Therefore, careful consideration needs to be given to each and every individual component of MGT. In this study, the focus is on improving the performance of the compressor in order to improve the overall performance of MGT. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is being performed using the software FLUENT to analyze the design of a micro compressor. Operating parameters like mass flow rate and RPM, and design parameters like inner blade angle (IBA), outer blade angle (OBA), blade thickness and number of blades are varied to study its effect on the performance of the compressor. Pressure ratio is used as a tool to measure the performance of the compressor. Higher the pressure ratio, better the design is. In the study, target mass flow rate is 0.2 g/s and RPM to be less than or equal to 900,000. So far, a pressure ratio of above 3 has been achieved at 0.2 g/s mass flow rate with 5 rotor blades, 0.36 mm blade thickness, 94.25 degrees OBA and 10.46 degrees IBA. The design in this study differs from a regular centrifugal compressor used in conventional gas turbines such that compressor is designed keeping in mind ease of manufacturability. So, this study proposes a compressor design which has a good pressure ratio, and at the same time, it is easy to manufacture using current microfabrication technologies. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=computational%20fluid%20dynamics" title="computational fluid dynamics">computational fluid dynamics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=FLUENT%20microfabrication" title=" FLUENT microfabrication"> FLUENT microfabrication</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=RPM" title=" RPM"> RPM</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/108590/performance-improvement-in-a-micro-compressor-for-micro-gas-turbine-using-computational-fluid-dynamics" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/108590.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">162</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19750</span> Discriminant Analysis as a Function of Predictive Learning to Select Evolutionary Algorithms in Intelligent Transportation System</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jorge%20A.%20Ruiz-Vanoye">Jorge A. Finally, an example is provided to illustrate the proposed theory. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=approximate%20controllability" title="approximate controllability">approximate controllability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=impulsive%20differential%20system" title=" impulsive differential system"> impulsive differential system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fixed%20point%20theorem" title=" fixed point theorem"> fixed point theorem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=state-dependent%20delay" title=" state-dependent delay"> state-dependent delay</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/34723/a-study-on-approximate-controllability-of-impulsive-integrodifferential-systems-with-non-local-conditions" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/34723.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">383</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19748</span> FESA: Fuzzy-Controlled Energy-Efficient Selective Allocation and Reallocation of Tasks Among Mobile Robots</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anuradha%20Banerjee">Anuradha Banerjee</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Energy aware operation is one of the visionary goals in the area of robotics because operability of robots is greatly dependent upon their residual energy. Practically, the tasks allocated to robots carry different priority and often an upper limit of time stamp is imposed within which the task needs to be completed. If a robot is unable to complete one particular task given to it the task is reallocated to some other robot. The collection of robots is controlled by a Central Monitoring Unit (CMU). Selection of the new robot is performed by a fuzzy controller called Task Reallocator (TRAC). It accepts the parameters like residual energy of robots, possibility that the task will be successfully completed by the new robot within stipulated time, distance of the new robot (where the task is reallocated) from distance of the old one (where the task was going on) etc. The proposed methodology increases the probability of completing globally assigned tasks and saves huge amount of energy as far as the collection of robots is concerned. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy-efficiency" title="energy-efficiency">energy-efficiency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fuzzy-controller" title=" fuzzy-controller"> fuzzy-controller</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=priority" title=" priority"> priority</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reallocation" title=" reallocation"> reallocation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=task" title=" task"> task</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20335/fesa-fuzzy-controlled-energy-efficient-selective-allocation-and-reallocation-of-tasks-among-mobile-robots" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20335.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">316</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19747</span> A 2D Numerical Model of Viscous Flow-Cylinder Interaction</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bang-Fuh%20Chen">Bang-Fuh Chen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chih-Chun%20Chu"> Chih-Chun Chu </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The flow induced cylinder vibration or earthquake-induced cylinder motion are moving in an arbitrary direction with time. The phenomenon of flow across cylinder is highly nonlinear and a linear-superposition of flow pattern across separated oscillating direction of cylinder motion is not valid to obtain the flow pattern across a cylinder oscillating in multiple directions. A novel finite difference scheme is developed to simulate the viscous flow across an arbitrary moving circular cylinder and we call this a complete 2D (two-dimensional) flow-cylinder interaction. That is, the cylinder is simultaneously oscillating in x- and y- directions. The time-dependent domain and meshes associated with the moving cylinder are mapped to a fixed computational domain and meshes, which are time independent. The numerical results are validated by several bench mark studies. Several examples are introduced including flow across steam-wise, transverse oscillating cylinder and flow across rotating cylinder and flow across arbitrary moving cylinder. The Morison’s formula can not describe the complex interaction phenomenon between cross flow and oscillating circular cylinder. And the completed 2D computational fluid dynamic analysis should be made to obtain the correct hydrodynamic force acting on the cylinder. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=2D%20cylinder" title="2D cylinder">2D cylinder</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=finite-difference%20method" title=" finite-difference method"> finite-difference method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flow-cylinder%20interaction" title=" flow-cylinder interaction"> flow-cylinder interaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flow%20induced%20vibration" title=" flow induced vibration"> flow induced vibration</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30200/a-2d-numerical-model-of-viscous-flow-cylinder-interaction" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30200.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">511</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19746</span> Copula Autoregressive Methodology for Simulation of Solar Irradiance and Air Temperature Time Series for Solar Energy Forecasting </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Andres%20F.%20Ramirez">Andres F. A correct inclusion of the fluctuating energy output of a photovoltaic (PV) energy system into an electric grid requires improvements in the forecasting and simulation methodologies for solar energy potential, and the understanding not only of the mean value of the series but the associated underlying stochastic process. We present a methodology for synthetic generation of solar irradiance (shortwave flux) and air temperature bivariate time series based on copula functions to represent the cross-dependence and temporal structure of the data. We explore the advantages of using this nonlinear time series method over traditional approaches that use a transformation of the data to normal distributions as an intermediate step. The use of copulas gives flexibility to represent the serial variability of the real data on the simulation and allows having more control on the desired properties of the data. We use discrete zero mass density distributions to assess the nature of solar irradiance, alongside vector generalized linear models for the bivariate time series time dependent distributions. We found that the copula autoregressive methodology used, including the zero mass characteristics of the solar irradiance time series, generates a significant improvement over state of the art strategies. These results will help to better understand the fluctuating nature of solar energy forecasting, the underlying stochastic process, and quantify the potential of a photovoltaic (PV) energy generating system integration into a country electricity network. Experimental analysis and real data application substantiate the usage and convenience of the proposed methodology to forecast solar irradiance time series and solar energy across northern hemisphere, southern hemisphere, and equatorial zones. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=copula%20autoregressive" title="copula autoregressive">copula autoregressive</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=solar%20irradiance%20forecasting" title=" solar irradiance forecasting"> solar irradiance forecasting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=solar%20energy%20forecasting" title=" solar energy forecasting"> solar energy forecasting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=time%20series%20generation" title=" time series generation"> time series generation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/115914/copula-autoregressive-methodology-for-simulation-of-solar-irradiance-and-air-temperature-time-series-for-solar-energy-forecasting" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/115914.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">323</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19745</span> Memory, Self, and Time: A Bachelardian Perspective </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michael%20Granado">Michael Granado</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The French philosopher Gaston Bachelard’s philosophy of time is articulated in his two works on the subject, the Intuition of the Instant (1932) and his The Dialectic of Duration (1936). Both works present a systematic methodology predicated upon the assumption that our understanding of time has radically changed as a result of Einstein and subsequently needs to be reimagined. Bachelard makes a major distinction in his discussion of time: 1. Time as it is (physical time), 2. Time as we experience it (phenomenological time). This paper will focus on the second distinction, phenomenological time, and explore the connections between Bachelard’s work and contemporary psychology. Several aspects of Bachelard’s philosophy of time nicely complement our current understanding of memory and self and clarify how the self relates to experienced time. Two points, in particular, stand out; the first is the relative nature of subjective time, and the second is the implications of subjective time in the formation of the narrative self. Bachelard introduces two philosophical concepts to explain these points: rhythmanalysis and reverie. By exploring these concepts, it will become apparent that there is an undeniable link between memory, self, and time. Through the use of narrative self, the individual connects and links memories and time together to form a sense of personal identity. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gaston%20Bachelard" title="Gaston Bachelard">Gaston Bachelard</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=memory" title=" memory"> memory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=self" title=" self"> self</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=time" title=" time "> time </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/127752/memory-self-and-time-a-bachelardian-perspective" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/127752.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">165</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19744</span> Mutational Analysis of DNase I Gene in Diabetic Patients</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hateem%20Zafar%20Kayani">Hateem Zafar Kayani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nageen%20Hussain"> Nageen Hussain</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The main aim is to analyze the mutations of DNASE I gene in diabetic patients. Eight healthy university male students used their KF of non-dominant leg and performed a bout of 60 maximal isokinetic (30°/s) eccentric contractions (MaxECC1). A week after MaxECC1, all subjects used the same KF to perform a subsequent bout of MaxECC2. Changes in maximal isokinetic voluntary contraction torque (MVC-CON), muscle soreness (SOR), relaxed knee joint angle (RANG), leg circumference (CIR), and ultrasound images (UI; muscle-tendon length and muscle angle) were measured before, immediately after, 1-5 days after each bout. Two-way ANOVA was used to analyze all the dependent variables. After MaxECC1, all the dependent variables (e.g. MVC-CON: ↓30%, muscle-tendon length: ↑24%, muscle angle: ↑15%) showed significantly change. Following MaxECC2, all the above dependent variables (e.g. MVC-CON:↓21%, tendon length: ↑16%, muscle angle: ↑6%) were significantly smaller than those of MaxECC1. These results of this study found that protective effect conferred by MaxECC1 against MaxECC2, and changes in muscle damage indicators, muscle-tendon length and muscle angle following MaxECC2 were smaller than MaxECC1. Thus, the amount of shift of muscle-tendon length and muscle angle was related to the RBE. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=eccentric%20exercise" title="eccentric exercise">eccentric exercise</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=maximal%20isokinetic%20voluntary%20contraction%20torque" title=" maximal isokinetic voluntary contraction torque"> maximal isokinetic voluntary contraction torque</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=repeated%20bout%20effect" title=" repeated bout effect"> repeated bout effect</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ultrasound" title=" ultrasound"> ultrasound</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/70166/effect-of-two-bouts-of-eccentric-exercise-on-knee-flexors-changes-in-muscle-tendon-lengths" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/70166.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">332</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19742</span> Relaxant Effects of Sideritis raeseri Extract on the Uterus of Rabbits</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Berat%20Krasniqi">Berat Krasniqi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shp%C3%ABtim%20Tha%C3%A7i"> Shpëtim Thaçi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Miribane%20D%C3%ABrmaku-Sopjani"> Miribane Dërmaku-Sopjani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sokol%20Abazi"> Sokol Abazi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mentor%20Sopjani"> Mentor Sopjani</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The Mediterranean native plant, Sideritis raeseri Boiss. & Heldr. (Lamiaceae), also known as "mountain tea," has a long history of use in traditional medicine. The effects of an ethanol extract of Sideritis raeseri (SR) on uterus smooth muscle activity are evaluated in this study, and the underlying mechanism is identified. S. raeseri extract (SRE) was made from air-dried components of the SR shoot system. At 37°C, the SRE (0.5-2 mg/mL) was tested on isolated rabbit uterus rings that were suspended in a Krebs solution-filled organ bath and bubbled with a mixture of 95% O₂ and 5% CO₂. The SRE alone relaxed the muscle contraction in a concentration-dependent manner in uterine rings in in vitro tests. SRE also decreased Ca²⁺-induced contractions in the uterus by a large amount when the uterus was depolarized with carbachol (CCh, 1µM), K⁺ (80 mM), or contracted by oxytocin (5 nM). The potential involvement of NO-dependent or independent cGMP mechanisms in the uterine actions of SR was investigated. For this purpose, L-NAME (NO synthase inhibitor, 100 M) or bradykinin (NO synthase stimulator, 100 nM), or indomethacin (cyclooxygenase inhibitor, 10µM) decreased the impact of SRE. These results suggest that NO-dependent signaling is involved in SRE's mediated uterine relaxant effect. Data suggests that SRE could be a powerful tocolytic agent that reduces uterine activity and could be used to treat a number of uterine conditions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sideritis%20raeseri" title="Sideritis raeseri">Sideritis raeseri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=uterus" title=" uterus"> uterus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=alternative%20medicine" title=" alternative medicine"> alternative medicine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intracellular%20mechanisms" title=" intracellular mechanisms"> intracellular mechanisms</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/157399/relaxant-effects-of-sideritis-raeseri-extract-on-the-uterus-of-rabbits" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/157399.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">116</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19741</span> Impact of the Xanthan Gum on Rheological Properties of Ceramic Slip</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Souad%20%20Hassene%20Daouadji">Souad Hassene Daouadji</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Larbi%20%20Hammadi"> Larbi Hammadi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelkrim%20%20Hazzab"> Abdelkrim Hazzab</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The slips intended for the manufacture of ceramics must have rheological properties well-defined in order to bring together the qualities required for the casting step (good fluidity for feeding the molds easily settles while generating a regular settling of the dough and for the dehydration phase of the dough in the mold a setting time relatively short is required to have a sufficient refinement which allows demolding both easy and fast). However, its efficacy can be limited by either de novo or acquired resistance. Aromatase is a key enzyme for the biosynthesis of estrogens, and inhibition of this enzyme leads to profound hypoestrogenism. Here, we found that the basal expression and activity of aromatase were significantly increased in tamoxifen (TAM)-resistant human breast cancer (TAMR-MCF-7) cells compared to control MCF-7 cells. We further revealed that aromatase immunoreactivity in tumor tissues was increased in recurrence group after TAM therapy compared to non-recurrence group after TAM therapy. Phosphorylation of Akt, extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), and p38 kinase were all increased in TAMR-MCF-7 cells. Inhibition of phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) suppressed the transactivation of the aromatase gene and its enzyme activity. Furthermore, we have also shown that PI3K/Akt-dependent cAMP-response element binding protein (CREB) activation was required for the enhanced expression of aromatase in TAMR-MCF-7 cells. Our findings suggest that aromatase expression is up-regulated in TAM-resistant breast cancer via PI3K/Akt-dependent CREB activation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=TAMR-MCF-7" title="TAMR-MCF-7">TAMR-MCF-7</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CREB" title=" CREB"> CREB</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=estrogen%20receptor" title=" estrogen receptor"> estrogen receptor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aromatase" title=" aromatase"> aromatase</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/21891/phosphoinositide-3-kinase-dependent-creb-activation-is-required-for-the-induction-of-aromatase-in-tamoxifen-resistant-breast-cancer" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/21891.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">412</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19738</span> An Amended Method for Assessment of Hypertrophic Scars Viscoelastic Parameters</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Iveta%20Bryjova">Iveta Bryjova</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Recording of viscoelastic strain-vs-time curves with the aid of the suction method and a follow-up analysis, resulting into evaluation of standard viscoelastic parameters, is a significant technique for non-invasive contact diagnostics of mechanical properties of skin and assessment of its conditions, particularly in acute burns, hypertrophic scarring (the most common complication of burn trauma) and reconstructive surgery. For elimination of the skin thickness contribution, usable viscoelastic parameters deduced from the strain-vs-time curves are restricted to the relative ones (i.e. those expressed as a ratio of two dimensional parameters), like grosselasticity, net-elasticity, biological elasticity or Qu’s area parameters, in literature and practice conventionally referred to as R2, R5, R6, R7, Q1, Q2, and Q3. With the exception of parameters R2 and Q1, the remaining ones substantially depend on the position of inflection point separating the elastic linear and viscoelastic segments of the strain-vs-time curve. The standard algorithm implemented in commercially available devices relies heavily on the experimental fact that the inflection time comes about 0.1 sec after the suction switch-on/off, which depreciates credibility of parameters thus obtained. Although the Qu’s US 7,556,605 patent suggests a method of improving the precision of the inflection determination, there is still room for nonnegligible improving. In this contribution, a novel method of inflection point determination utilizing the advantageous properties of the Savitzky–Golay filtering is presented. The method allows computation of derivatives of smoothed strain-vs-time curve, more exact location of inflection and consequently more reliable values of aforementioned viscoelastic parameters. An improved applicability of the five inflection-dependent relative viscoelastic parameters is demonstrated by recasting a former study under the new method, and by comparing its results with those provided by the methods that have been used so far. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Savitzky%E2%80%93Golay%20filter" title="Savitzky–Golay filter">Savitzky–Golay filter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=scarring" title=" scarring"> scarring</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=skin" title=" skin"> skin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=viscoelasticity" title=" viscoelasticity"> viscoelasticity</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/13165/an-amended-method-for-assessment-of-hypertrophic-scars-viscoelastic-parameters" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/13165.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">304</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19737</span> A Comparative Study of Mechanisms across Different Online Social Learning Types</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xinyu%20Wang">Xinyu Wang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the context of the rapid development of Internet technology and the increasing prevalence of online social media, this study investigates the impact of digital communication on social learning. Through three behavioral experiments, we explore both affective and cognitive social learning in online environments. Experiment 1 manipulates the content of experimental materials and two forms of feedback, emotional valence, sociability, and repetition, to verify whether individuals can achieve online emotional social learning through reinforcement using two social learning strategies. Results reveal that both social learning strategies can assist individuals in affective, social learning through reinforcement, with feedback-based learning strategies outperforming frequency-dependent strategies. Experiment 2 similarly manipulates the content of experimental materials and two forms of feedback to verify whether individuals can achieve online knowledge social learning through reinforcement using two social learning strategies. Results show that similar to online affective social learning, individuals adopt both social learning strategies to achieve cognitive social learning through reinforcement, with feedback-based learning strategies outperforming frequency-dependent strategies. Experiment 3 simultaneously observes online affective and cognitive social learning by manipulating the content of experimental materials and feedback at different levels of social pressure. Results indicate that online affective social learning exhibits different learning effects under different levels of social pressure, whereas online cognitive social learning remains unaffected by social pressure, demonstrating more stable learning effects. Additionally, to explore the sustained effects of online social learning and differences in duration among different types of online social learning, all three experiments incorporate two test time points. Results reveal significant differences in pre-post-test scores for online social learning in Experiments 2 and 3, whereas differences are less apparent in Experiment 1. To accurately measure the sustained effects of online social learning, the researchers conducted a mini-meta-analysis of all effect sizes of online social learning duration. Results indicate that although the overall effect size is small, the effect of online social learning weakens over time. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=online%20social%20learning" title="online social learning">online social learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=affective%20social%20learning" title=" affective social learning"> affective social learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cognitive%20social%20learning" title=" cognitive social learning"> cognitive social learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20learning%20strategies" title=" social learning strategies"> social learning strategies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20reinforcement" title=" social reinforcement"> social reinforcement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20pressure" title=" social pressure"> social pressure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=duration" title=" duration"> duration</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/186019/a-comparative-study-of-mechanisms-across-different-online-social-learning-types" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/186019.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">46</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19736</span> Control Algorithm Design of Single-Phase Inverter For ZnO Breakdown Characteristics Tests</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kashif%20Habib">Kashif Habib</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zeeshan%20Ayyub"> Zeeshan Ayyub</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> ZnO voltage dependent resistor was widely used as components of the electrical system for over-voltage protection. It has a wide application prospect in superconducting energy-removal, generator de-excitation, overvoltage protection of electrical & electronics equipment. At present, the research for the application of ZnO voltage dependent resistor stop, it uses just in the field of its nonlinear voltage current characteristic and overvoltage protection areas. There is no further study over the over-voltage breakdown characteristics, such as the combustion phenomena and the measure of the voltage/current when it breakdown, and the affect to its surrounding equipment. It is also a blind spot in its application. So, when we do the feature test of ZnO voltage dependent resistor, we need to design a reasonable test power supply, making the terminal voltage keep for sine wave, simulating the real use of PF voltage in power supply conditions. We put forward the solutions of using inverter to generate a controllable power. The paper mainly focuses on the breakdown characteristic test power supply of nonlinear ZnO voltage dependent resistor. According to the current mature switching power supply technology, we proposed power control system using the inverter as the core. The power mainly realize the sin-voltage output on the condition of three-phase PF-AC input, and 3 control modes (RMS, Peak, Average) of the current output. We choose TMS320F2812M as the control part of the hardware platform. It is used to convert the power from three-phase to a controlled single-phase sin-voltage through a rectifier, filter, and inverter. Design controller produce SPWM, to get the controlled voltage source via appropriate multi-loop control strategy, while execute data acquisition and display, system protection, start logic control, etc. The TMS320F2812M is able to complete the multi-loop control quickly and can be a good completion of the inverter output control. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ZnO" title="ZnO">ZnO</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multi-loop%20control" title=" multi-loop control"> multi-loop control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SPWM" title=" SPWM"> SPWM</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-linear%20load" title=" non-linear load"> non-linear load</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/1333/control-algorithm-design-of-single-phase-inverter-for-zno-breakdown-characteristics-tests" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/1333.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">325</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19735</span> CyberSteer: Cyber-Human Approach for Safely Shaping Autonomous Robotic Behavior to Comply with Human Intention</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vinicius%20G.%20Goecks">Vinicius G. This restricts the application of these learning algorithms in robotics and real-world applications, in which there is low tolerance to inadequate actions, interactions are expensive, and real-time processing and action are required. This paper addresses this issue introducing CyberSteer, a novel approach to efficiently design intrinsic reward functions based on human intention to guide deep reinforcement learning agents with no environment-dependent rewards. CyberSteer uses non-expert human operators for initial demonstration of a given task or desired behavior. The trajectories collected are used to train a behavior cloning deep neural network that asynchronously runs in the background and suggests actions to the deep reinforcement learning module. An intrinsic reward is computed based on the similarity between actions suggested and taken by the deep reinforcement learning algorithm commanding the agent. This intrinsic reward can also be reshaped through additional human demonstration or critique. This approach removes the need for environment-dependent or hand-engineered rewards while still being able to safely shape the behavior of autonomous robotic agents, in this case, based on human intention. CyberSteer is tested in a high-fidelity unmanned aerial vehicle simulation environment, the Microsoft AirSim. The simulated aerial robot performs collision avoidance through a clustered forest environment using forward-looking depth sensing and roll, pitch, and yaw references angle commands to the flight controller. This approach shows that the behavior of robotic systems can be shaped in a reduced amount of time when guided by a non-expert human, who is only aware of the high-level goals of the task. Decreasing the amount of training time required and increasing safety during training maneuvers will allow for faster deployment of intelligent robotic agents in dynamic real-world applications. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=human-robot%20interaction" title="human-robot interaction">human-robot interaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intelligent%20robots" title=" intelligent robots"> intelligent robots</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=robot%20learning" title=" robot learning"> robot learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=semisupervised%20learning" title=" semisupervised learning"> semisupervised learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=unmanned%20aerial%20vehicles" title=" unmanned aerial vehicles"> unmanned aerial vehicles</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/79328/cybersteer-cyber-human-approach-for-safely-shaping-autonomous-robotic-behavior-to-comply-with-human-intention" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/79328.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">259</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19734</span> In vitro Effects of Berberine on the Vitality and Oxidative Profile of Bovine Spermatozoa </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eva%20Tvrd%C3%A1">Eva Tvrdá</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hana%20Greifov%C3%A1"> Hana Greifová</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Peter%20Ivani%C4%8D"> Peter Ivanič</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Norbert%20Luk%C3%A1%C4%8D"> Norbert Lukáč </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The aim of this study was to evaluate the dose- and time-dependent <em>in vitro</em> effects of berberine (BER), a natural alkaloid with numerous biological properties on bovine spermatozoa during three time periods (0 h, 2 h, 24 h). Bovine semen samples were diluted and cultivated in physiological saline solution containing 0.5% DMSO together with 200, 100, 50, 10, 5, and 1 &mu;mol/L BER. Spermatozoa motility was assessed using the computer assisted semen analyzer. The viability of spermatozoa was assessed by the metabolic (MTT) assay, production of superoxide radicals was quantified using the nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) test, and chemiluminescence was used to evaluate the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Cell lysates were prepared and the extent of lipid peroxidation (LPO) was evaluated using the TBARS assay. The results of the movement activity showed a significant increase in the motility during long term cultivation in case of concentrations ranging between 1 and 10 &mu;mol/L BER (P &lt; 0.01; P &lt; 0.001; 24 h). At the same time, supplementation of 1, 5 and 10 &mu;mol/L BER led to a significant preservation of the cell viability (P &lt; 0.001; 24 h). BER addition at a range of 1-50 &mu;mol/L also provided a significantly higher protection against superoxide (P &lt; 0.05) and ROS (P &lt; 0.001; P &lt; 0.01) overgeneration as well as LPO (P &lt; 0.01; P&lt;0.05) after a 24 h cultivation. We may suggest that supplementation of BER to bovine spermatozoa, particularly at concentrations ranging between 1 and 50 &mu;mol/L, may offer protection to the motility, viability and oxidative status of the spermatozoa, particularly notable at 24 h. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=berberine" title="berberine">berberine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bulls" title=" bulls"> bulls</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=motility" title=" motility"> motility</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=oxidative%20profile" title=" oxidative profile"> oxidative profile</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spermatozoa" title=" spermatozoa"> spermatozoa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=viability" title=" viability"> viability</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/108980/in-vitro-effects-of-berberine-on-the-vitality-and-oxidative-profile-of-bovine-spermatozoa" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/108980.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">130</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19733</span> Formulation and Evaluation of Colon-Specific Drug Delivery System of Zaltoprofen</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Surajj%20Sarode">Surajj Sarode</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=G.%20P.%20Vadnere"> G. The phenomenon of ‘on ‘ and ‘off ‘ luminescence intermittency (blinking) of CdTe QDs in nylon-6 was investigated by single-molecule optical microscopy, and we identified that the intermittencies of single QDs were correlated with the interaction of water molecules absorbed on the QD surface. The ‘off’ times, the interval between adjacent ‘on’ states, remained essentially unaffected with an increase in excitation intensity. In the case of ‘on’ time distribution, power law behavior with an exponential cutoff tail is observed at longer time scales. These observations indicate that the luminescence blinking statistics of water-soluble single CdTe QDs is significantly dependent on the aqueous environment, which is interpreted in terms of passivation of the surface trap states of QDs. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electrospinning" title="electrospinning">electrospinning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CdTe%20quantum%20dots" title=" CdTe quantum dots"> CdTe quantum dots</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nylon-6" title=" Nylon-6"> Nylon-6</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nanocomposite" title=" Nanocomposite"> Nanocomposite</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/34595/preparation-and-characterization-of-electrospun-cdte-quantum-dots-nylon-6-nanofiber-mat" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/34595.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">434</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19731</span> The Impact of an Ionic Liquid on Hydrogen Generation from a Redox Process Involving Magnesium and Acidic Oilfield Water</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20A.%20Deyab">Mohamed A. Mg metal and WOW are primarily consumed in this process. The results show that the hydrogen gas output is highly dependent on temperature and solution pH. The best conditions for hydrogen production were found to be a low pH (2.5) and a high temperature (338 K). For the first time, the Allyl methylimidazolium bis-trifluoromethyl sulfonyl imide) (IL) ionic liquid is used to regulate the rate of hydrogen generation. It has been confirmed that increasing the solution temperature and decreasing the solution pH accelerates Mg dissolution and produces more hydrogen per unit of time. The adsorption of IL on the active sites of the Mg surface is unrestricted by mixing physical and chemical orientation. Inspections using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), and FT-IR spectroscopy were used to identify and characterise surface corrosion of Mg in WOW. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the robust capabilities of both methods. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pulsed%20Airy%20beams" title="pulsed Airy beams">pulsed Airy beams</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pulsed%20beams" title=" pulsed beams"> pulsed beams</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pulsed%20curved%20beams" title=" pulsed curved beams"> pulsed curved beams</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transient%20fields" title=" transient fields"> transient fields</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/192271/beam-methods-applications-to-the-design-of-curved-pulsed-beams" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/192271.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">22</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19729</span> Throughflow Effects on Thermal Convection in Variable Viscosity Ferromagnetic Liquids</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=G.%20N.%20Sekhar">G. Using a combination of Galerkin and shooting techniques the critical eigenvalues are obtained for stationary mode. The effect of Prandtl number (Pr &gt; 1) on onset is insignificant and nonlinearity of non-buoyancy magnetic parameter M3 is found to have no influence on the onset of ferroconvection. The magnetic buoyancy number, M1 and variable viscosity parameter, V have destabilizing influences on the system. The effect of throughflow Peclet number, Pe is to delay the onset of ferroconvection and this effect is independent of the direction of flow. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ferroconvection" title="ferroconvection">ferroconvection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=magnetic%20field%20dependent%20viscosity" title=" magnetic field dependent viscosity"> magnetic field dependent viscosity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=temperature%20dependent%20viscosity" title=" temperature dependent viscosity"> temperature dependent viscosity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=throughflow" title=" throughflow"> throughflow</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/71149/throughflow-effects-on-thermal-convection-in-variable-viscosity-ferromagnetic-liquids" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/71149.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">265</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19728</span> H-Infinity and RST Position Controllers of Rotary Traveling Wave Ultrasonic Motor</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Brahim">M. Moreover, the TWUM has a high holding torque without supply, which makes this motor as an attractive solution for holding position of robotic arms. However, their nonlinear dynamics, and the presence of load-dependent dead zones often limit their use. Those issues can be overcome in closed loop with effective and precise controllers. In this paper, robust H-infinity (H∞) and discrete time RST position controllers are presented. The H∞ controller is designed in continuous time with additional weighting filters to ensure the robustness in the case of uncertain motor model and external disturbances. Robust RST controller based on the pole placement method is also designed and compared to the H∞. Simulink model of TWUM is used to validate the stability and the robustness of the two proposed controllers. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
