على جثة شرطي وسط بغداد بعد ثلاثة ايام من اختطافه، بدت عليها اثار تعذيب وطعنا بآلات حادة. <br/>وقال مصدر في الشرطة " إن مفرزة من قوات الشرطة عثرت، مساء امس السبت ، على جثة مرمية في شارع السعدون، وسط بغداد، كانت عليها اثار تعذيب، وقضى صاحبها طعنا بالسكاكين"، مبيناً أنها " تعود لأحد عناصر شرطة النجدة في بغداد وتم اختطافه قبل ثلاثة ايام مع سرقة سيارته الخاصة".</p> </div> </div> <hr/> <div العراق، وان استمرار الاستهداف المباشر لهم زاد من هجرتهم لخارج العراق. <br/>ووصف وليم وردا رئيس المنظمة الأرقام التي تم إحصاءها خلال العام الماضي بالمخيفة كونها كانت أسوء مما سُجل في الاعوام الأسبق، نظراً لاستهداف المسحيين بكافة مسمياتهم، وفي كافة أرجاء البلاد خاصة بغداد والموصل. <br/>واضاف انه وخلال عام واحد تعرض 92 مسيحي للاغتيال وأصيب 280 آخرين، بالإضافة لتفجير كنيستين في بغداد واختطاف فتاتين في بغداد والموصل، فضلاً عن تلقي عشرات رسائل التهديد بالتصفية. <br/>واكد وردا ان هذه الاحداث أجبرت اكثر من 1800 عائلة مسيحية على النزوح لمناطق مختلفة من سهل نينوى وتوقف اكثر من 1700 طالب عن الدراسة href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130126110631/http://www.hhro.org/hhro/index.php?lang=en" target="_blank" class="external">Hammurabi Organisation for Human Rights</a> revealed today that the year 2010 was the worst for the people of the Christian community in Irak, and that in response to the continuation of the direct targeting of them they increased their migration out of Irak. </p> <p>Last year was worse than previous years due to the increased targeting of Christians of all denominations in all parts of the country but especially in Baghdad and Mosul.</p> <p>During the year 92 Christians were murdered and another 280 wounded. Additionally there was the bombing of two churches in Baghdad and the kidnapping of two girl chlidren one in Baghdad and one in Mosul. Furthermore many Christian families received letters threatening their liquidation. </p> <p>In response to this persecution more than 1800 Christian families have been forced to flee their homes to different parts of the Nineveh Plain. who murdered two other mercenaries in a drunken brawl was sentenced today to twenty years (life imprisonment) for his crime.</p> <p>During the trial the court heard evidence that Fitsimons shot the Scottish mercenary Paul McGuigan twice in the chest and through the mouth and the Australian mercenary Darren Hoare through the temple at close range. </p> <p>The prosecution have the right to appeal the sentence on grounds of excessive leniency and ask for the death penalty to be applied instead.</p> <p>Fitzsimons, from Middleton, Manchester, is the first Westerner to be brought to justice in an Iraki court since the 2009 US-Iraqi Status of Forces Agreement removed the immunity from prosecution for mercenaries that had previously been forced upon the Iraki courts at the point of the invaders’ just a little over a year after the U.S. invasion of Iraq and before the sectarian violence began, the Iraqi Association of University Teachers (AUT) reported that <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130126110631/http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/story.asp?storyCode=191084&sectioncode=26" class="external" target="_blank">250 academics had been killed</a>. Award-winning British journalist Robert Fisk <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130126110631/http://www.thetruthseeker.co.uk/article.asp?ID=2042" class="external" target="_blank">had warned</a> early that year of the assassinations of Iraqi academics, but few U.S. newspapers picked up on the story.  By the end of 2006, according to<a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130126110631/http://www.independent.co.uk/news/education/higher/iraqs-universities-are-in-meltdown-427316.html" class="external" target="_blank"> <em>The Independent</em></a>, over 470 academics had been killed. Another British paper, <em>The Guardian</em>, <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130126110631/http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2006/dec/12/internationaleducationnews.highereducation" class="external" target="_blank">reported</a> that about 500 academics were killed just from the Universities of Baghdad and Basra alone.</p> <p>Based on multiple sources, the B<em>Russell</em>s Tribunal sifted through such reports and <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130126110631/http://www.brusselstribunal.org/Academics.htm" class="external" target="_blank">published on its website</a> the names of over 400 murdered academics and when they were killed. Although the exact total number of assassinated academics is not really known, the indefatigable advocate for human rights Dirk Adriaensens gives a detailed analysis of the data available so far in his contribution to the book <em><a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130126110631/http://us.macmillan.com/culturalcleansinginiraq" class="external" target="_blank">Cultural Cleansing in Iraq</a></em>. According to Adriaensens, most of those killed were from the Universities of Bagdad (57 percent) and Basra (14 percent). In addition, 35 percent died in detention after being arrested/kidnapped by some security forces. The modus operandi for the killings was a professional, well-organized assassination. Fifty-four percent of the deaths occurred as a targeted killing, at point-blank range with hand guns or automatic weapons. The killing of academics did not follow any sectarian agenda since the murdered were Sunni and Shia. No one has taken responsibility for the killings, and no one has been arrested.</p> <p>The reports of these murdered Iraqi academics have been around for a few years, mostly in the foreign press and on websites. I admit to an initial skepticism about their veracity. I was even more concerned about who was responsible for these heinous crimes and why. Iraqis living in Iraq knew of these murders first-hand, but did not know the culprits. Their suspicions fell naturally on the occupying power.</p> <p>Along with these tragic deaths was the concomitant wave of death threats and intimidation against other Iraqi academics, which resulted in tens of thousands of Iraqi academics literally running abroad for their life. <em>The Washington Post </em>recently described the <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130126110631/http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/11/23/AR2010112306747.html" class="external" target="_blank">plight of one Iraqi family</a> living in the United States after the husband, a professor, was assassinated and the wife, a physician, survived but gravely wounded. For some, the escape abroad was only temporary. A<a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130126110631/http://iraqiacademicsunderattack.wordpress.com/2010/10/27/two-iraqi-academics-killed-after-their-returning-to-iraq-english-arabic-castellano/" class="external" target="_blank"> professor and a dean</a> who left and returned in the past six months to Iraq were professionally assassinated.  Iraq has suffered the decapitation of its intellectual class on a staggering scale, which has thrown the country back to the dark ages.</p> <p>According to the new revelations of Wikileaks, in some cases the United States, through the military, contractors, and others, killed innocent Iraqi civilians including women and children. As a matter of policy we handed over Iraqi detainees to Iraqi security forces with full knowledge that they would be subjected to torture, rape, and murder. Moreover, when our military received the reports of torture, rape, and murder it chose to ignore them. Such a policy is contrary to international law, U.S. laws, and American values.</p> <p>It’s not clear whether the U.S. government or the U.S. military knows who assassinated the Iraqi academics. We don’t know if U.S. officials or military commanders looked the other way when local security forces committed those crimes. But the Wikileaks documents raise many disturbing questions about a possible U.S. role in these assassinations. Even the Gulf Cooperation Council, and its half-dozen U.S.-friendly Arab members, has <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20130126110631/http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5hiUt15hxCn1JG0tU8iLw_Oj6yb8A?docId=CNG.1c29e0b64ef02ac621d8a8911f61ba89.191" class="external" target="_blank">called on</a> the Obama administration to "open a serious and transparent investigation" into possible "crimes against humanity."</p> <p>The evidence so far is sufficient to warrant a thorough investigation by an independent body. وتعذيب وغسيل أموال. <br/>وتواصل مسلسل الكشف عن فضائح شركة بلاك ووتر الأمنية وممارساتها في العراق، إذ أكد عاملون سابقون في الشركة أن رئيسها إيريك برنس ضالع في التغطية على حوادث القتل العمد ضد مدنيين The result is that it “is clear now is that they [Christians] will all leave Iraq,” said Pius Kasha, vicar of Iraq’s Syriac Catholic Church. Both quotes are in an editorial signed by Tariq Alhomayed, editor of the London-based pan-Arabic daily <i>Al Sharq Al Awsat</i>. </p> <p>In his article, he asks a question, namely “What has been done since 2008, rather than 2003, by the Iraqi government to protect an Iraqi component from repression and organized violence?”, and answers it: “Unfortunately, [. . .] nothing!” </p> <p>For Alhomayed, al-Qaeda is obviously to blame. The terrorist group has in fact not hesitated in carrying out massacred and committing atrocities, but for him the issue is what Iraqi authorities have done to defend Iraq’s Christians, for “Iraqi Christians remain targets in public”’ despite being “outspoken in their demand for government protection”. </p> <p>Since 2008, Iraqi Christians have turned to the Churches (rather the government) for protection against violence, at least the half that is still left in the country. </p> <p>Without self-defence militias, Christians have turned to church buildings that are guarded by security personnel. He wonders though, “how did the terrorists get in” in the latest incident. </p> <p>In his view, targeting “minorities, including Iraqi Christians, means the disintegration of Iraq”. It “is an infringement upon its cultural and political composition. We must ensure that minorities are not excluded on sectarian or ethnic grounds, for this will open the gates of hell. They did not come with [L. Paul] Bremer, and others. Iraqi Christians also suffer the worst conditions of any Christians in the region”. </p> <p>This came against the backdrop of an appeal from the Chaldean Archbishop of Kirkuk, Luis Saca, informing the Iraqi government of the need to protect Iraq’s Christians, when he said that “The Christians in Iraq do not have militias or clans to defend them”. He added “I feel pain and injustice, because innocent people are being killed and we do not know why”. </p> <p>At the time, we faced condemnation and media campaigns by people affiliated with the Iraqi government, but here we are today witnessing a massacre, along with other atrocities against Christians in Iraq. The massacre did not happen at a checkpoint, or as the result of an assassination of a Christian figure at his home, or on a random road. Instead, it was an organized, armed attack on the Syriac Catholic Church of Our Lady, in the Karrada district of Baghdad. Reports suggest 52 people were killed, nearly two years after the call of Bishop Luis Saca, urging the Iraqi government to protect Christians. </p> <p>It was striking when Father Youssef Thomas Mirkis, head of the Dominican sect in Iraq, said after yesterday’s massacre that “the plot had been in preparation for a long time, considering the weapons and ammunition found in the cathedral…these take a long time to stockpile”. The words of the vicar of Iraq’s Syriac Catholic Church, Pius Kasha, were deeply saddening, when he said “what is clear now is that they [Christians] will all leave Iraq”. </p> <p>Thus, the question today is: What has been done since 2008, rather than 2003, by the Iraqi government to protect an Iraqi component from repression and organized violence? Unfortunately, the answer is nothing! It is easy to accuse al-Qaeda, an organization which never hesitates to commit massacres and atrocities. However, Iraqi Christians remain targets in public, and are outspoken in their demand for government protection, so what has Nuri al-Maliki’s government done for them? </p> <p>One of the hostages in yesterday’s terrorist attack said “Men wearing military uniforms broke into the church carrying their weapons, and killed a priest on the spot”. It is well known that since 2008, Iraq’s Christians, nearly half of whom have left the country, are now turning to the churches [instead of the government] in search of protection from violence. Interestingly, the targeted church was under the protection of security personnel, so how did the terrorists get in? </p> <p>We can only return to what we said in 2008; that the targeting of minorities, including Iraqi Christians, means the disintegration of Iraq, and is an infringement upon its cultural and political composition.
