and his mother’s<MH517> name<MH8034> was <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>Jechiliah<MH3203> of Jerusalem<MH3389>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/26-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>He did<MH6213a> what<MH3477> was<MH3477> right<MH3477> in the sight<MH5869> of the LORD<MH3068>, in accordance with everything<MH3605> that his father<MH1> Amaziah<MH558> had done<MH6213a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/26-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>He continued<MH1961> to seek<MH1245> God<MH430> in the days<MH3117> of Zechariah<MH2148a>, who had understanding<MH995> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>through the vision<MH7200> of God<MH430>; and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>as long<MH3117> as he sought<MH1875> the LORD<MH3068>, God<MH430> made<MH6743b> him successful<MH6743b>. <p class="hdg">Uzziah Succeeds in War</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/26-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>Now he went<MH3318> out<MH3318> and fought<MH3898a> against the Philistines<MH6430>, and broke<MH6555> down<MH6555> the wall<MH2346> of Gath<MH1661>, the wall<MH2346> of Jabneh<MH2996>, and the wall<MH2346> of Ashdod<MH795>; and he built<MH1129> cities<MH5892b> in <i>the area of</i> Ashdod<MH795> and among the Philistines<MH6430>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/26-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>God<MH430> helped<MH5826> him against<MH5921> the Philistines<MH6430>, and against<MH5921> the Arabians<MH6163a> who lived<MH3427> in Gur-baal<MH1485>, and the Meunites<MH4586>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/26-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>The Ammonites<MH5984> gave<MH5414> tribute<MH4503> to Uzziah<MH5818>, and his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>fame<MH8034> extended<MH1980> to the border<MH935> of Egypt<MH4714>, for he became<MH2388> very<MH4605> strong<MH2388>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/26-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Moreover, Uzziah<MH5818> built<MH1129> towers<MH4026> in Jerusalem<MH3389> at the Corner<MH6438> Gate<MH8179>, the Valley<MH1516> Gate<MH8179>, and at the corner<MH4740> buttress<MH4740>, and he fortified<MH2388> them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/26-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>He also built<MH1129> towers<MH4026> in the wilderness<MH4057b> and carved<MH2672> out<MH2672> many<MH7227a> cisterns<MH953a>, for he had<MH1961> much<MH7227a> livestock<MH4735>, both in the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>lowland<MH8219> and in the plain<MH4334>. <i>He also had</i> plowmen<MH406> and vinedressers<MH3755> in the hill<MH2022> country<MH2022> and the fertile<MH3759> fields<MH3759>, for he loved<MH157> the soil<MH127>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/26-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Moreover, Uzziah<MH5818> had<MH1961> an army<MH2428> ready<MH6213a> for<MH6213a> battle<MH4421>, which <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>entered<MH3318> combat<MH6635> by divisions<MH1416> according to the number<MH4557> of their muster<MH6486>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>recorded<MH3027> by Jeiel<MH3262> the scribe<MH5613b> and Maaseiah<MH4641> the official<MH7860>, under<MH5921> the direction<MH3027> of Hananiah<MH2608a>, one of the king’s<MH4428> officers<MH8269>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/26-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>The total<MH3605> number<MH4557> of the heads<MH7218> of the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>households<MH1>, of valiant<MH2428> warriors<MH1368>, was 2,600<MH505, 8337a, 3967>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/26-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Under<MH5921> their direction<MH3027> was an army<MH2428, 6635> of 307,500<MH7969, 3967, 505, 7651, 2568>, who could wage<MH6213a> war<MH4421> with great<MH2428> power<MH3581b>, to help<MH5826> the king<MH4428> against<MH5921> the enemy<MH340>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/26-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Moreover, Uzziah<MH5818> prepared<MH3559> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>for all<MH3605> the army<MH6635> shields<MH4043>, spears<MH7420>, helmets<MH3553>, body<MH8302> armor<MH8302>, bows<MH7198>, and slingstones<MH7050a, 68>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/26-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>In Jerusalem<MH3389> he made<MH6213a> machines<MH2810> <i>of war</i> invented<MH4284> by skillful<MH2803> workmen<MH2803> to be on the towers<MH4026> and the corners<MH6438>, for the purpose of shooting<MH3372b> arrows<MH2671> and great<MH1419> stones<MH68>. So his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>fame<MH8034> spread<MH3318> far<MH5704, 7350>, for he was<MH6381> marvelously<MH6381> helped<MH5826> until<MH5704, 3588> he <i>was</i> strong<MH2388>. <p class="hdg">Pride Is Uzziah’s Undoing</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/26-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>But when he became<MH2393> strong<MH2393>, his heart<MH3820> was<MH1361b> so <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>proud<MH1361b> that he acted<MH7843> corruptly<MH7843>, and he was<MH4603> untrue<MH4603> to the LORD<MH3068> his God<MH430>, for he entered<MH935> the temple<MH1964> of the LORD<MH3068> to burn<MH6999> incense<MH6999> on the altar<MH4196> of incense<MH7004>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/26-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Then Azariah<MH5838> the priest<MH3548> entered<MH935> after<MH310> him, and with him eighty<MH8084> priests<MH3548> of the LORD<MH3068>, valiant<MH2428> men<MH1121>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/26-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>They opposed<MH5975, 5921> Uzziah<MH5818> the king<MH4428> and said<MH559> to him, “It is not for you, Uzziah<MH5818>, to burn<MH6999> incense<MH6999> to the LORD<MH3068>, but for the priests<MH3548>, the sons<MH1121> of Aaron<MH175> who have been consecrated<MH6942> to burn<MH6999> incense<MH6999>. Leave<MH3318> the sanctuary<MH4720>, for you have been<MH4603> untrue<MH4603> and will have no<MH3808> honor<MH3519b> from the LORD<MH3068> God<MH430>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/26-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>But Uzziah<MH5818>, with a censer<MH4730> in his hand<MH3027> for burning<MH6999> incense<MH6999>, was enraged<MH2196>; and while he was enraged<MH2196> with the priests<MH3548>, leprosy<MH6883> broke<MH2224> out<MH2224> on his forehead<MH4696> in the presence<MH6440> of the priests<MH3548> in the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068>, beside<MH4480, 5921> the altar<MH4196> of incense<MH7004>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/26-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Azariah<MH5838> the chief<MH7218> priest<MH3548> and all<MH3605> the priests<MH3548> looked<MH6437> at him, and behold<MH2009>, he <i>was</i> leprous<MH6879> on his forehead<MH4696>; and they quickly<MH926> removed<MH4480, 926> him from there<MH8033>, and he himself<MH1931> also<MH1571> hurried<MH1765> to get<MH3318> out<MH3318> because<MH3588> the LORD<MH3068> had stricken<MH5060> him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_chronicles/26-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>King<MH4428> Uzziah<MH5818> had<MH6879> leprosy<MH6879> to the day<MH3117> of his death<MH4194>; and he lived<MH3427> in a separate<MH2669> house<MH1004>, afflicted<MH6879> <i>as he was</i> with<MH6879> leprosy<MH6879>, for he was cut<MH1504> off<MH1504> from the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068>.
