href="https://web.archive.org/web/20240915135916/https://www.jstor.org/stable/10.3998/mpub.12414517.8">"Creating Game History: Intertextuality and the Formation of a Collective Memory of Games" by Regina Seiwald, explores how video games contribute to the formation of a collective memory and the history of gaming through intertextual references. It delves into the ways in which video games embed references to older games, whether through direct gameplay, visual style, or nostalgic elements, thereby preserving and emphasizing their legacy within gaming culture.

By incorporating older games into new ones, these intertextual links not only serve as a homage but also play a significant role in shaping how certain games are remembered and valued over time. The chapter highlights examples from various gaming franchises, such as Nintendo and Sega, illustrating how these intertextual connections contribute to the ongoing narrative of video game history.

This exploration is particularly relevant for understanding how cultural memory is constructed in the digital age and how video games, as a medium, engage with their own past to create a shared history among players, developers, and critics.

Image: Nintendo Company Limited. Nintendo 64 Games Console with Accessories and Games. 1996-2003. With over 60 million people tuning in, or 82.6% of all TV viewers at the time, this performance marked a cultural moment that cemented Elvis as a rising star.

Singing hits like “Don’t Be Cruel” and “Love Me Tender,” Elvis brought his signature charisma to living rooms across America, despite initial controversies over his hip-shaking dance moves. Drawing from Black musical traditions like rhythm and blues, his style reshaped American music. This night became the most-watched broadcast of the 1950s and changed the course of music history forever.

Curious to know more about how television shaped the music scene before MTV? href="https://web.archive.org/web/20240915135916/https://www.jstor.org/stable/10.3998/mpub.12414517.8" target="_blank">“Creating Game History: Intertextuality and the Formation of a Collective Memory of Games” by Regina Seiwald, explores how video games contribute to the formation of a collective memory and the history of gaming through intertextual references.

1996-2003. Instead, our tool connects to these pre-built models via an API, so we’re only asking them to perform specific tasks. We also focus on optimizing our requests to be as concise as possible, keeping the size and energy use of each request down. Additionally, if we generate a response that will be the same for all users, we store it, so we don’t have to regenerate it each time. This approach helps save power, costs, and time.

For more information, feel free to check out our FAQ <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20240915135916/https://about.jstor.org/gen-ai/#FAQ"
