With the advent of digital imaging and database technology, business owners have been motivated to integrate technology to their business operation ranging from small, medium to large enterprises. Technology has been found to have brought many benefits that can make a business grow. Hog or swine raising, for example, is a very popular enterprise in the Philippines, whose challenges in production monitoring can be addressed through technology integration. Swine production monitoring can become a tedious task as the enterprise goes larger. Specifically, problems like delayed and inconsistent reports are most likely to happen if counting of swine per pen of which building is done manually. In this study, we present iCount, which aims to ensure efficient swine detection and counting that hastens the swine production monitoring task. We develop a system that automatically detects and counts swine based on Sobel filter and ellipse fitting model, given the still photos of the group of swine captured in a pen. We improve the Sobel filter detection result through 8-neigbhorhood rule implementation. Ellipse fitting technique is then employed for proper swine detection. Furthermore, the system can generate periodic production reports and can identify the specific consumables to be served to the swine according to schedules. Experiments reveal that our algorithm provides an efficient way for detecting swine, thereby providing a significant amount of accuracy in production monitoring. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=automatic%20swine%20counting" title="automatic swine counting">automatic swine counting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=swine%20detection" title=" swine detection"> swine detection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=swine%20production%20monitoring" title=" swine production monitoring"> swine production monitoring</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ellipse%20fitting%20model" title=" ellipse fitting model"> ellipse fitting model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sobel%20filter" title=" sobel filter"> sobel filter</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/62074/icount-an-automated-swine-detection-and-production-monitoring-system-based-on-sobel-filter-and-ellipse-fitting-model" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/62074.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">311</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16954</span> A Comparison of South East Asian Face Emotion Classification based on Optimized Ellipse Data Using Clustering Technique </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Karthigayan">M. Two South East Asian (SEA) faces are considered in this work for the emotion classification. There are six emotions and one neutral are considered as the output. Each subject shows unique characteristic of the lip and eye features for various emotions. GA is adopted to optimize irregular ellipse characteristics of the lip and eye features in each emotion. That is, the top portion of lip configuration is a part of one ellipse and the bottom of different ellipse. Two ellipse based fitness equations are proposed for the lip configuration and relevant parameters that define the emotions are listed. The GA method has achieved reasonably successful classification of emotion. In some emotions classification, optimized data values of one emotion are messed or overlapped to other emotion ranges. In order to overcome the overlapping problem between the emotion optimized values and at the same time to improve the classification, a fuzzy clustering method (FCM) of approach has been implemented to offer better classification. The GA-FCM approach offers a reasonably good classification within the ranges of clusters and it had been proven by applying to two SEA subjects and have improved the classification rate. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ellipse%20fitness%20function" title="ellipse fitness function">ellipse fitness function</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=genetic%20algorithm" title=" genetic algorithm"> genetic algorithm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=emotion%20recognition" title=" emotion recognition"> emotion recognition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fuzzy%20clustering" title=" fuzzy clustering "> fuzzy clustering </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/16362/a-comparison-of-south-east-asian-face-emotion-classification-based-on-optimized-ellipse-data-using-clustering-technique" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/16362.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">546</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16953</span> Civil Engineering Tool Kit for Making Perfect Ellipses of Desired Dimensions on Very Large Surfaces</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karam%20Chand%20Gupta">Karam Chand Gupta</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> If an ellipse is to be drawn of given dimensions on a large ground, there is no formula, method or set of calculations & procedure available which will help in drawing an ellipse of given length and width on ground. Whenever a field engineer is to start the work of an ellipse-shaped structure like elliptical conference hall, screening chamber and pump chamber in disposal work etc., it is cumbersome for him to give demarcation of the structure on the big surface of the ground. No procedure is available, even in Google. A set of formulas with calculations has been made which helps the field engineer to draw an true and perfect ellipse of given length and width on the large ground very easily so as to start the construction work of elliptical structure. Based on these formulas a civil Engineering tool kit has been made with the help of which we can make perfect ellipse of desired dimensions on very large surface. The Patent of the tool kit has been filed in Intellectual Property India with Patent Filing Number: 201611026153 and Patent Application Filing Date: 30.07.2016. An App named ‘KC’s Mesh Formula’ has also been made to ease the calculation work. This can be downloaded from Play Store. After adopting these formulas and tool kit, a field engineer will not face difficulty in drawing ellipse on the ground to start the work. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ellipse" title="ellipse">ellipse</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=elliptical%20structure" title=" elliptical structure"> elliptical structure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=foci" title=" foci"> foci</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=string" title=" string"> string</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wooden%20peg" title=" wooden peg"> wooden peg</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/76542/civil-engineering-tool-kit-for-making-perfect-ellipses-of-desired-dimensions-on-very-large-surfaces" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/76542.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">268</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16952</span> Geometric Imperfections in Lattice Structures: A Simulation Strategy to Predict Strength Variability</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xavier%20Lorang">Xavier Lorang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmadali%20Tahmasebimoradi"> Ahmadali Tahmasebimoradi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chetra%20Mang"> Chetra Mang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sylvain%20Girard"> Sylvain Girard</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The additive manufacturing processes (e.g. selective laser melting) allow us to produce lattice structures which have less weight, higher impact absorption capacity, and better thermal exchange property compared to the classical structures. Unfortunately, geometric imperfections (defects) in the lattice structures are by-products results of the manufacturing process. These imperfections decrease the lifetime and the strength of the lattice structures and alternate their mechanical responses. The objective of the paper is to present a simulation strategy which allows us to take into account the effect of the geometric imperfections on the mechanical response of the lattice structure. In the first part, an identification method of geometric imperfection parameters of the lattice structure based on point clouds is presented. These point clouds are based on tomography measurements. The point clouds are fed into the platform LATANA (LATtice ANAlysis) developed by IRT-SystemX to characterize the geometric imperfections. This is done by projecting the point clouds of each microbeam along the beam axis onto a 2D surface. Then, by fitting an ellipse to the 2D projections of the points, the geometric imperfections are characterized by introducing three parameters of an ellipse; semi-major/minor axes and angle of rotation. With regard to the calculated parameters of the microbeam geometric imperfections, a statistical analysis is carried out to determine a probability density law based on a statistical hypothesis. The microbeam samples are randomly drawn from the density law and are used to generate lattice structures. In the second part, a finite element model for the lattice structure with the simplified geometric imperfections (ellipse parameters) is presented. This numerical model is used to simulate the generated lattice structures. The propagation of the uncertainties of geometric imperfections is shown through the distribution of the computed mechanical responses of the lattice structures. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=additive%20manufacturing" title="additive manufacturing">additive manufacturing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=finite%20element%20model" title=" finite element model"> finite element model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=geometric%20imperfections" title=" geometric imperfections"> geometric imperfections</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lattice%20structures" title=" lattice structures"> lattice structures</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=propagation%20of%20uncertainty" title=" propagation of uncertainty"> propagation of uncertainty</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/130259/geometric-imperfections-in-lattice-structures-a-simulation-strategy-to-predict-strength-variability" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/130259.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">186</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16951</span> A Study on Human Musculoskeletal Model for Cycle Fitting: Comparison with EMG</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yoon-%20Ho%20Shin">Yoon- Ho Shin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jin-Seung%20Choi"> Jin-Seung Choi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dong-Won%20Kang"> Dong-Won Kang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jeong-Woo%20Seo"> Jeong-Woo Seo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Joo-Hack%20Lee"> Joo-Hack Lee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ju-Young%20Kim"> Ju-Young Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dae-Hyeok%20Kim"> Dae-Hyeok Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seung-Tae%20Yang"> Seung-Tae Yang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gye-Rae%20Tack"> Gye-Rae Tack </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> It is difficult to study the effect of various variables on cycle fitting through actual experiment. To overcome such difficulty, the forward dynamics of a musculoskeletal model was applied to cycle fitting in this study. The measured EMG data were compared with the muscle activities of the musculoskeletal model through forward dynamics. EMG data were measured from five cyclists who do not have musculoskeletal diseases during three minutes pedaling with a constant load (150 W) and cadence (90 RPM). The muscles used for the analysis were the Vastus Lateralis (VL), Tibialis Anterior (TA), Bicep Femoris (BF), and Gastrocnemius Medial (GM). Person’s correlation coefficients of the muscle activity patterns, the peak timing of the maximum muscle activities, and the total muscle activities were calculated and compared. BIKE3D model of AnyBody (Anybodytech, Denmark) was used for the musculoskeletal model simulation. The comparisons of the actual experiments with the simulation results showed significant correlations in the muscle activity patterns (VL: 0.789, TA: 0.503, BF: 0.468, GM: 0.670). The peak timings of the maximum muscle activities were distributed at particular phases. The total muscle activities were compared with the normalized muscle activities, and the comparison showed about 10% difference in the VL (+10%), TA (+9.7%), and BF (+10%), excluding the GM (+29.4%). Thus, it can be concluded that muscle activities of model & experiment showed similar results. The results of this study indicated that it was possible to apply the simulation of further improved musculoskeletal model to cycle fitting. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=musculoskeletal%20modeling" title="musculoskeletal modeling">musculoskeletal modeling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=EMG" title=" EMG"> EMG</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cycle%20fitting" title=" cycle fitting"> cycle fitting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=simulation" title=" simulation"> simulation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20629/a-study-on-human-musculoskeletal-model-for-cycle-fitting-comparison-with-emg" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20629.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">567</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16950</span> Development of Advanced Linear Calibration Technique for Air Flow Sensing by Using CTA-Based Hot Wire Anemometry</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ming-Jong%20Tsai">Ming-Jong Tsai</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=T.%20M.%20Wu"> T. It contains a host PC with Human Machine Interface, a wind tunnel, a wind speed controller, an automatic data acquisition module, and nonlinear calibration model. To improve the fitting error by using single fitting polynomial, this study proposes a Multiple three-order Polynomial Fitting Method (MPFM) for fitting the non-linear output of a CTA-based Hot wire Anemometry. The CTA-based anemometer with built-in fitting parameters is installed in the wind tunnel, and the wind speed is controlled by the PC-based controller. The Hot-Wire anemometer's thermistor resistance change is converted into a voltage signal or temperature differences, and then sent to the PC through a DAQ card. After completion measurements of original signal, the Multiple polynomial mathematical coefficients can be automatically calculated, and then sent into the micro-processor in the Hot-Wire anemometer. Finally, the corrected Hot-Wire anemometer is verified for the linearity, the repeatability, error percentage, and the system outputs quality control reports. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flow%20rate%20sensing" title="flow rate sensing">flow rate sensing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hot%20wire" title=" hot wire"> hot wire</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=constant%20temperature%20anemometry%20%28CTA%29" title=" constant temperature anemometry (CTA)"> constant temperature anemometry (CTA)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=linear%20calibration" title=" linear calibration"> linear calibration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multiple%20three-order%20polynomial%20fitting%20method%20%28MPFM%29" title=" multiple three-order polynomial fitting method (MPFM)"> multiple three-order polynomial fitting method (MPFM)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=temperature%20compensation" title=" temperature compensation"> temperature compensation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/24601/development-of-advanced-linear-calibration-technique-for-air-flow-sensing-by-using-cta-based-hot-wire-anemometry" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/24601.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">416</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16949</span> Robust Variogram Fitting Using Non-Linear Rank-Based Estimators</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hazem%20M.%20Al-Mofleh">Hazem M. In spatial statistics, the conventional variogram fitting procedure (non-linear weighted least squares) suffers from the same outlier problem that has plagued this method from its inception. This paper uses the Hogg-Type adaptive procedures to select an optimal score function for a rank-based estimator for these non-linear models. Numeric examples and simulation studies will demonstrate the robustness, utility, efficiency, and validity of these estimates. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=asymptotic%20relative%20efficiency" title="asymptotic relative efficiency">asymptotic relative efficiency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-linear%20rank-based" title=" non-linear rank-based"> non-linear rank-based</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rank%20estimates" title=" rank estimates"> rank estimates</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=variogram" title=" variogram"> variogram</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43980/robust-variogram-fitting-using-non-linear-rank-based-estimators" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43980.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">431</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16948</span> A Unified Fitting Method for the Set of Unified Constitutive Equations for Modelling Microstructure Evolution in Hot Deformation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chi%20Zhang">Chi Zhang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jun%20Jiang"> Jun Jiang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Constitutive equations are very important in finite element (FE) modeling, and the accuracy of the material constants in the equations have significant effects on the accuracy of the FE models. This work will focus on the development of a set of unified MATLAB programs for fitting the material constants in the constitutive equations efficiently. Unlike saturated soils, the permeability of unsaturated soils cannot be found using conventional methods as it does not follow Darcy's law. Many empirical models, such as the Van Genuchten Model and Fredlund-Xing Model were suggested to predict permeability value for unsaturated soil. Such models use data from the soil-freezing characteristic curve to find fitting parameters for frozen unsaturated soils. In this study, soil specimens were subjected to 0, 1, 3, and 5 freezing-thawing (F-T) cycles for different degrees of saturation to have a wide range of suction, and its soil freezing characteristic curves were formulated for all F-T cycles. Changes in fitting parameters and relative permeability with subsequent F-T cycles are presented in this paper for both models. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=frozen%20unsaturated%20soil" title="frozen unsaturated soil">frozen unsaturated soil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fredlund%20Xing%20model" title=" Fredlund Xing model"> Fredlund Xing model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=soil-freezing%20characteristic%20curve" title=" soil-freezing characteristic curve"> soil-freezing characteristic curve</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Van%20Genuchten%20model" title=" Van Genuchten model"> Van Genuchten model</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/131717/prediction-of-permeability-of-frozen-unsaturated-soil-using-van-genuchten-model-and-fredlund-xing-model-in-soil-vision" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/131717.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">189</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16946</span> Variogram Fitting Based on the Wilcoxon Norm</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hazem%20Al-Mofleh">Hazem Al-Mofleh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=John%20Daniels"> John Daniels</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Joseph%20McKean"> Joseph McKean</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Within geostatistics research, effective estimation of the variogram points has been examined, particularly in developing robust alternatives. The parametric fit of these variogram points which eventually defines the kriging weights, however, has not received the same attention from a robust perspective. This paper proposes the use of the non-linear Wilcoxon norm over weighted non-linear least squares as a robust variogram fitting alternative. First, we introduce the concept of variogram estimation and fitting. Then, as an alternative to non-linear weighted least squares, we discuss the non-linear Wilcoxon estimator. Next, the robustness properties of the non-linear Wilcoxon are demonstrated using a contaminated spatial data set. Finally, under simulated conditions, increasing levels of contaminated spatial processes have their variograms points estimated and fit. In the fitting of these variogram points, both non-linear Weighted Least Squares and non-linear Wilcoxon fits are examined for efficiency. At all levels of contamination (including 0%), using a robust estimation and robust fitting procedure, the non-weighted Wilcoxon outperforms weighted Least Squares. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-linear%20wilcoxon" title="non-linear wilcoxon">non-linear wilcoxon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=robust%20estimation" title=" robust estimation"> robust estimation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=variogram%20estimation" title=" variogram estimation"> variogram estimation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wilcoxon%20norm" title=" wilcoxon norm"> wilcoxon norm</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50377/variogram-fitting-based-on-the-wilcoxon-norm" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50377.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">458</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16945</span> Forecasting Model to Predict Dengue Incidence in Malaysia </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=W.%20H.%20Wan%20Zakiyatussariroh">W. Many studies on dengue cases in Malaysia were conducted but are limited in modeling the outbreak and forecasting incidence. This article attempts to propose the most appropriate time series model to explain the behavior of dengue incidence in Malaysia for the purpose of forecasting future dengue outbreaks. Several seasonal auto-regressive integrated moving average (SARIMA) models were developed to model Malaysia’s number of dengue incidence on weekly data collected from January 2001 to December 2011. SARIMA (2,1,1)(1,1,1)52 model was found to be the most suitable model for Malaysia’s dengue incidence with the least value of Akaike information criteria (AIC) and Bayesian information criteria (BIC) for in-sample fitting. The models further evaluate out-sample forecast accuracy using four different accuracy measures. The results indicate that SARIMA (2,1,1)(1,1,1)52 performed well for both in-sample fitting and out-sample evaluation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=time%20series%20modeling" title="time series modeling">time series modeling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Box-Jenkins" title=" Box-Jenkins"> Box-Jenkins</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SARIMA" title=" SARIMA"> SARIMA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=forecasting" title=" forecasting"> forecasting</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/1823/forecasting-model-to-predict-dengue-incidence-in-malaysia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/1823.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">484</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16944</span> Micro- and Nanoparticle Transport and Deposition in Elliptic Obstructed Channels by Lattice Boltzmann Method</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Salman%20Piri">Salman Piri</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this study, a two-dimensional lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) was considered for the numerical simulation of fluid flow in a channel. Also, the Lagrangian method was used for particle tracking in one-way coupling. Three hundred spherical particles with specific diameters were released in the channel entry and an elliptical object was placed in the channel for flow obstruction. The effect of gravity, the drag force, the Saffman lift and the Brownian forces were evaluated in the particle motion trajectories. Also, the effect of the geometrical parameter, ellipse aspect ratio, and the flow characteristic or Reynolds number was surveyed for the transport and deposition of particles. Moreover, the influence of particle diameter between 0.01 and 10 µm was investigated. Results indicated that in small Reynolds, more inertial and gravitational trapping occurred on the obstacle surface for particles with larger diameters. Whereas, for nano-particles, influenced by Brownian diffusion and vortices behind the obstacle, the inertial and gravitational mechanisms were insignificant and diffusion was the dominant deposition mechanism. In addition, in Reynolds numbers larger than 400, there was no significant difference between the deposition of finer and larger particles. Also, in higher aspect ratios of the ellipse, more inertial trapping occurred for particles of larger diameter (10 micrometers), while in lower cases, interception and gravitational mechanisms were dominant. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ellipse%20aspect%20elito" title="ellipse aspect elito">ellipse aspect elito</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=particle%20tracking%20diffusion" title=" particle tracking diffusion"> particle tracking diffusion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lattice%20boltzman%20method" title=" lattice boltzman method"> lattice boltzman method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=larangain%20particle%20tracking" title=" larangain particle tracking"> larangain particle tracking</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/168547/micro-and-nanoparticle-transport-and-deposition-in-elliptic-obstructed-channels-by-lattice-boltzmann-method" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/168547.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">79</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16943</span> The Efficacy of an Ideal RGP Fitting on Higher Order Aberrations (HOA) in 65 Keratoconus Patients</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ghandehari-Motlagh">Ghandehari-Motlagh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad"> Mohammad</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Purpose: To evaluate of the effect of an ideal fit of RGPs on HOA and keratoconus indices. This system has also applications in the vehicular environment to monitor the driver, in order to avoid any possible accident in case of cardiac failure. Thus, the bio-radar system proposed in this paper, can measure vital signals accurately by using the Doppler effect principle that relates the received signal properties with the distance change between the radar antennas and the person’s chest-wall. Once the bio-radar aim is to monitor subjects in real-time and during long periods of time, it is impossible to guarantee the patient immobilization, hence their random motion will interfere in the acquired signals. In this paper, a mathematical model of the bio-radar is presented, as well as its simulation in MATLAB. The used algorithm for breath rate extraction is explained and a method for DC offsets removal based in a motion detection system is proposed. Furthermore, experimental tests were conducted with a view to prove that the unavoidable random motion can be used to estimate the DC offsets accurately and thus remove them successfully. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bio-signals" title="bio-signals">bio-signals</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DC%20component" title=" DC component"> DC component</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Doppler%20effect" title=" Doppler effect"> Doppler effect</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ellipse%20fitting" title=" ellipse fitting"> ellipse fitting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=radar" title=" radar"> radar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SDR" title=" SDR"> SDR</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95280/motion-detection-method-for-clutter-rejection-in-the-bio-radar-signal-processing" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95280.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">140</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16941</span> Spatial Heterogeneity of Urban Land Use in the Yangtze River Economic Belt Based on DMSP/OLS Data</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Liang%20Zhou">Liang Zhou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Qinke%20Sun"> Qinke Sun</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Taking the Yangtze River Economic Belt as an example, using long-term nighttime lighting data from DMSP/OLS from 1992 to 2012, support vector machine classification (SVM) was used to quantitatively extract urban built-up areas of economic belts, and spatial analysis of expansion intensity index, standard deviation ellipse, etc. was introduced. The model conducts detailed and in-depth discussions on the strength, direction, and type of the expansion of the middle and lower reaches of the economic belt and the key node cities. The results show that: (1) From 1992 to 2012, the built-up areas of the major cities in the Yangtze River Valley showed a rapid expansion trend. The built-up area expanded by 60,392 km², and the average annual expansion rate was 31%, that is, from 9615 km² in 1992 to 70007 km² in 2012. The spatial gradient analysis of the watershed shows that the expansion of urban built-up areas in the middle and lower reaches of the river basin takes Shanghai as the leading force, and the 'bottom-up' model shows an expanding pattern of 'upstream-downstream-middle-range' declines. The average annual rate of expansion is 36% and 35%, respectively. 17% of which the midstream expansion rate is about 50% of the upstream and downstream. (2) The analysis of expansion intensity shows that the urban expansion intensity in the Yangtze River Basin has generally shown an upward trend, the downstream region has continued to rise, and the upper and middle reaches have experienced different amplitude fluctuations. To further analyze the strength of urban expansion at key nodes, Chengdu, Chongqing, and Wuhan in the upper and middle reaches maintain a high degree of consistency with the intensity of regional expansion. Node cities with Shanghai as the core downstream continue to maintain a high level of expansion. (3) The standard deviation ellipse analysis shows that the overall center of gravity of the Yangtze River basin city is located in Anqing City, Anhui Province, and it showed a phenomenon of reciprocating movement from 1992 to 2012. The nighttime standard deviation ellipse distribution range increased from 61.96 km² to 76.52 km². The growth of the major axis of the ellipse was significantly larger than that of the minor axis. It had obvious east-west axiality, in which the nighttime lights in the downstream area occupied in the entire luminosity scale urban system leading position. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20space" title="urban space">urban space</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=support%20vector%20machine" title=" support vector machine"> support vector machine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spatial%20characteristics" title=" spatial characteristics"> spatial characteristics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=night%20lights" title=" night lights"> night lights</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yangtze%20River%20Economic%20Belt" title=" Yangtze River Economic Belt"> Yangtze River Economic Belt</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/103737/spatial-heterogeneity-of-urban-land-use-in-the-yangtze-river-economic-belt-based-on-dmspols-data" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/103737.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">114</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16940</span> Development of a System for Fitting Clothes and Accessories Using Augmented Reality</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dinmukhamed%20T.">Dinmukhamed T.</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vassiliy%20S."> Vassiliy S.</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This article suggests the idea of fitting clothes and accessories based on augmented reality. To achieve this goal, 12 samples were used to evaluate fitting of Aldrich’s Basic Fitting Block to the upper part of Egyptian women's bodies. The samples were evaluated before and after alterations, through wear trials on the standard mannequins of size 48 and 56, and judged by experienced assessors using fit evaluation scale. The data obtained were statistically analyzed to identify the efficiency of the adjustments. The Aldrich’s Basic Fitting Block was selected because his method is known internationally and easy to use. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aldrich%20basic%20fitting%20block" title="Aldrich basic fitting block">Aldrich basic fitting block</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=clothing%20industry" title=" clothing industry"> clothing industry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=knitted%20fabrics" title=" knitted fabrics"> knitted fabrics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pattern%20construction" title=" pattern construction"> pattern construction</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/73581/developing-mathematical-relationships-to-evaluate-the-amount-of-added-ease-to-the-basic-pattern-of-weft-knitting-fabrics-and-its-fitting-to-the-upper-part-of-egyptian-womens-bodies" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/73581.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">266</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16938</span> Parameter Interactions in the Cumulative Prospect Theory: Fitting the Binary Choice Experiment Data</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elzbieta%20Babula">Elzbieta Babula</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Juhyun%20Park"> Juhyun Park</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Tversky and Kahneman’s cumulative prospect theory assumes symmetric probability cumulation with regard to the reference point within decision weights. The study uses entropy weight method to measure the transportation advantages of 107 counties in Shaanxi province from three dimensions: road network density, trunk line influence and location advantage in 2013 and 2021, and applies spatial autocorrelation analysis method to analyze the spatial layout and development trend of county-level transportation, and conducts ordinary least square (OLS)regression on transportation impact factors and other influencing factors. The paper also compares the regression fitting degree of the Geographically weighted regression(GWR) model and the OLS model. The results show that spatially, the transportation advantages of Shaanxi province generally show a decreasing trend from the Weihe Plain to the surrounding areas and mainly exhibit high-high clustering phenomenon. Temporally, transportation advantages show an overall upward trend, and the phenomenon of spatial imbalance gradually decreases. People's travel demands have changed to some extent, and the demand for rapid transportation has increased overall. The GWR model regression fitting degree of transportation advantages is 0.74, which is higher than the OLS regression model's fitting degree of 0.64. Based on the evolution of transportation advantages, it is predicted that this trend will continue for a period of time in the future. To improve the transportation advantages of Shaanxi province increasing the layout of rapid transportation can effectively enhance the transportation advantages of Shaanxi province. We found that the rheological behavior of all CMC solutions presents a pseudo-plastic behavior, it follows the model of Ostwald-de Waele. The objective of this work is the modeling of flow by the CMC Cross model. The Cross model gives us the variation of the viscosity according to the shear rate. This model allowed us to adjust more clearly the rheological characteristics of CMC solutions. A comparison between the Cross model and the model of Ostwald was made. Cross the model fitting parameters were determined by a numerical simulation to make an approach between the experimental curve and those given by the two models. Parametric modeling of CIF has the advantage of fitting various shapes of CIF and estimates the impact of covariates with maximum efficiency. To calculate the total CIF's covariate influence using a parametric model., it is essential to parametrize the baseline of the CIF. As the CIF is an improper function by nature, it is necessary to utilize an improper distribution when applying parametric models. The Gompertz distribution, which is an improper distribution, is limited in its applicability as it only accounts for monotone hazard shapes. The generalized Gompertz distribution, however, can adapt to a wider range of hazard shapes, including unimodal, bathtub, and monotonic increasing or decreasing hazard shapes. In this paper, the generalized Gompertz distribution is used to parametrize the baseline of the CIF, and the parameters of the proposed model are estimated using the maximum likelihood approach. The proposed model is compared with the existing Gompertz model using the Akaike information criterion. Appropriate statistical test procedures and model-fitting criteria will be used to test the adequacy of the model. Both models are applied to the ‘colon’ dataset, which is available in the “biostat3” package in R. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=competing%20risks" title="competing risks">competing risks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cumulative%20incidence%20function" title=" cumulative incidence function"> cumulative incidence function</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=improper%20distribution" title=" improper distribution"> improper distribution</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=parametric%20modeling" title=" parametric modeling"> parametric modeling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=survival%20analysis" title=" survival analysis"> survival analysis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/162228/parametric-modeling-for-survival-data-with-competing-risks-using-the-generalized-gompertz-distribution" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/162228.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">103</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16934</span> CFD Prediction of the Round Elbow Fitting Loss Coefficient</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ana%20Paula%20P.%20dos%20Santos">Ana Paula P. dos Santos</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Claudia%20R.%20Andrade"> Claudia R. Ductwork can be composed by straight ducts and different types of fittings (elbows, transitions, converging and diverging tees and wyes). Duct fittings are significant sources of pressure loss in fluid distribution systems. Fitting losses can be even more significant than equipment components such as coils, filters, and dampers. At the present work, a conventional 90o round elbow under turbulent incompressible airflow is studied. Mass, momentum, and k-e turbulence model equations are solved employing the finite volume method. The SIMPLE algorithm is used for the pressure-velocity coupling. In order to validate the numerical tool, the elbow pressure loss coefficient is determined using the same conditions to compare with ASHRAE database. Furthermore, the effect of Reynolds number variation on the elbow pressure loss coefficient is investigated. These results can be useful to perform better preliminary design of air distribution ductworks in air conditioning systems. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=duct%20fitting" title="duct fitting">duct fitting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pressure%20loss" title=" pressure loss"> pressure loss</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=elbow" title=" elbow"> elbow</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermodynamics" title=" thermodynamics"> thermodynamics</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3445/cfd-prediction-of-the-round-elbow-fitting-loss-coefficient" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3445.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">391</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16933</span> A Posteriori Trading-Inspired Model-Free Time Series Segmentation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Plessen%20Mogens%20Graf">Plessen Mogens Graf </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Within the context of multivariate time series segmentation, this paper proposes a method inspired by a posteriori optimal trading. After a normalization step, time series are treated channelwise as surrogate stock prices that can be traded optimally a posteriori in a virtual portfolio holding either stock or cash. Linear transaction costs are interpreted as hyperparameters for noise filtering. Trading signals, as well as trading signals obtained on the reversed time series, are used for unsupervised channelwise labeling before a consensus over all channels is reached that determines the final segmentation time instants. The method is model-free such that no model prescriptions for segments are made. Benefits of proposed approach include simplicity, computational efficiency, and adaptability to a wide range of different shapes of time series. Performance is demonstrated on synthetic and real-world data, including a large-scale dataset comprising a multivariate time series of dimension 1000 and length 2709. Proposed method is compared to a popular model-based bottom-up approach fitting piecewise affine models and to a recent model-based top-down approach fitting Gaussian models and found to be consistently faster while producing more intuitive results in the sense of segmenting time series at peaks and valleys. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=time%20series%20segmentation" title="time series segmentation">time series segmentation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=model-free" title=" model-free"> model-free</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=trading-inspired" title=" trading-inspired"> trading-inspired</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multivariate%20data" title=" multivariate data"> multivariate data</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/118916/a-posteriori-trading-inspired-model-free-time-series-segmentation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/118916.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">136</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16932</span> Synchrotron Radiation and Inverse Compton Scattering in Astrophysical Plasma</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S.%20S.%20Sathiesh">S. Active Shape Model (ASM) is a widely used approach for LV segmentation but suffers from the drawback that initialization of the shape model is not sufficiently close to the target, especially when dealing with abnormal shapes in disease. In this work, a two-step framework is proposed to improve the accuracy and speed of the model-based segmentation. Firstly, a robust and efficient detector based on Hough forest is proposed to localize cardiac feature points, and such points are used to predict the initial fitting of the LV shape model. Secondly, to achieve more accurate and detailed segmentation, ASM is applied to further fit the LV shape model to the cardiac ultrasound image. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated on a dataset of 800 cardiac ultrasound images that are mostly of abnormal shapes. The proposed method is compared to several combinations of ASM and existing initialization methods. The experiment results demonstrate that the accuracy of feature point detection for initialization was improved by 40% compared to the existing methods. Moreover, the proposed method significantly reduces the number of necessary ASM fitting loops, thus speeding up the whole segmentation process. Therefore, the proposed method is able to achieve more accurate and efficient segmentation results and is applicable to unusual shapes of heart with cardiac diseases, such as left atrial enlargement. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hough%20forest" title="hough forest">hough forest</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=active%20shape%20model" title=" active shape model"> active shape model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=segmentation" title=" segmentation"> segmentation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cardiac%20left%20ventricle" title=" cardiac left ventricle"> cardiac left ventricle</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38590/a-robust-and-efficient-segmentation-method-applied-for-cardiac-left-ventricle-with-abnormal-shapes" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38590.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">339</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16928</span> A Numerical Hybrid Finite Element Model for Lattice Structures Using 3D/Beam Elements</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmadali%20Tahmasebimoradi">Ahmadali Tahmasebimoradi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chetra%20Mang"> Chetra Mang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xavier%20Lorang"> Xavier Lorang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Thanks to the additive manufacturing process, lattice structures are replacing the traditional structures in aeronautical and automobile industries. In order to evaluate the mechanical response of the lattice structures, one has to resort to numerical techniques. Ansys is a globally well-known and trusted commercial software that allows us to model the lattice structures and analyze their mechanical responses using either solid or beam elements. In this software, a script may be used to systematically generate the lattice structures for any size. On the one hand, solid elements allow us to correctly model the contact between the substrates (the supports of the lattice structure) and the lattice structure, the local plasticity, and the junctions of the microbeams. However, their computational cost increases rapidly with the size of the lattice structure. On the other hand, although beam elements reduce the computational cost drastically, it doesn’t correctly model the contact between the lattice structures and the substrates nor the junctions of the microbeams. Also, the notion of local plasticity is not valid anymore. Moreover, the deformed shape of the lattice structure doesn’t correspond to the deformed shape of the lattice structure using 3D solid elements. In this work, motivated by the pros and cons of the 3D and beam models, a numerically hybrid model is presented for the lattice structures to reduce the computational cost of the simulations while avoiding the aforementioned drawbacks of the beam elements. This approach consists of the utilization of solid elements for the junctions and beam elements for the microbeams connecting the corresponding junctions to each other. When the global response of the structure is linear, the results from the hybrid models are in good agreement with the ones from the 3D models for body-centered cubic with z-struts (BCCZ) and body-centered cubic without z-struts (BCC) lattice structures. However, the hybrid models have difficulty to converge when the effect of large deformation and local plasticity are considerable in the BCCZ structures. Furthermore, the effect of the junction’s size of the hybrid models on the results is investigated. For BCCZ lattice structures, the results are not affected by the junction’s size. This is also valid for BCC lattice structures as long as the ratio of the junction’s size to the diameter of the microbeams is greater than 2. The hybrid model can take into account the geometric defects. As a demonstration, the point clouds of two lattice structures are parametrized in a platform called LATANA (LATtice ANAlysis) developed by IRT-SystemX. In this process, for each microbeam of the lattice structures, an ellipse is fitted to capture the effect of shape variation and roughness. Each ellipse is represented by three parameters; semi-major axis, semi-minor axis, and angle of rotation. Having the parameters of the ellipses, the lattice structures are constructed in Spaceclaim (ANSYS) using the geometrical hybrid approach. The results show a negligible discrepancy between the hybrid and 3D models, while the computational cost of the hybrid model is lower than the computational cost of the 3D model. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=additive%20manufacturing" title="additive manufacturing">additive manufacturing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ansys" title=" Ansys"> Ansys</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=geometric%20defects" title=" geometric defects"> geometric defects</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hybrid%20finite%20element%20model" title=" hybrid finite element model"> hybrid finite element model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lattice%20structure" title=" lattice structure"> lattice structure</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/130258/a-numerical-hybrid-finite-element-model-for-lattice-structures-using-3dbeam-elements" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/130258.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">112</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16927</span> Electricity Load Modeling: An Application to Italian Market</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Giovanni%20Masala">Giovanni Masala</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Stefania%20Marica"> Stefania Marica</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Forecasting electricity load plays a crucial role regards decision making and planning for economical purposes. Besides, in the light of the recent privatization and deregulation of the power industry, the forecasting of future electricity load turned out to be a very challenging problem. Empirical data about electricity load highlights a clear seasonal behavior (higher load during the winter season), which is partly due to climatic effects. We also emphasize the presence of load periodicity at a weekly basis (electricity load is usually lower on weekends or holidays) and at daily basis (electricity load is clearly influenced by the hour). Finally, a long-term trend may depend on the general economic situation (for example, industrial production affects electricity load). All these features must be captured by the model. The purpose of this paper is then to build an hourly electricity load model. The deterministic component of the model requires non-linear regression and Fourier series while we will investigate the stochastic component through econometrical tools. The calibration of the parameters’ model will be performed by using data coming from the Italian market in a 6 year period (2007- 2012). Then, we will perform a Monte Carlo simulation in order to compare the simulated data respect to the real data (both in-sample and out-of-sample inspection). The reliability of the model will be deduced thanks to standard tests which highlight a good fitting of the simulated values. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ARMA-GARCH%20process" title="ARMA-GARCH process">ARMA-GARCH process</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electricity%20load" title=" electricity load"> electricity load</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fitting%20tests" title=" fitting tests"> fitting tests</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fourier%20series" title=" Fourier series"> Fourier series</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Monte%20Carlo%20simulation" title=" Monte Carlo simulation"> Monte Carlo simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-linear%20regression" title=" non-linear regression"> non-linear regression</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/11709/electricity-load-modeling-an-application-to-italian-market" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/11709.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">395</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">16926</span> On-Chip Sensor Ellipse Distribution Method and Equivalent Mapping Technique for Real-Time Hardware Trojan Detection and Location</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Longfei%20Wang">Longfei Wang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sel%C3%A7uk%20K%C3%B6se"> Selçuk Köse</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Hardware Trojan becomes great concern as integrated circuit (IC) technology advances and not all manufacturing steps of an IC are accomplished within one company. Real-time hardware Trojan detection is proven to be a feasible way to detect randomly activated Trojans that cannot be detected at testing stage. On-chip sensors serve as a great candidate to implement real-time hardware Trojan detection, however, the optimization of on-chip sensors has not been thoroughly investigated and the location of Trojan has not been carefully explored. On-chip sensor ellipse distribution method and equivalent mapping technique are proposed based on the characteristics of on-chip power delivery network in this paper to address the optimization and distribution of on-chip sensors for real-time hardware Trojan detection as well as to estimate the location and current consumption of hardware Trojan. Simulation results verify that hardware Trojan activation can be effectively detected and the location of a hardware Trojan can be efficiently estimated with less than 5% error for a realistic power grid using our proposed methods. The proposed techniques therefore lay a solid foundation for isolation and even deactivation of hardware Trojans through accurate location of Trojans. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong>
