Akcia union’s campaign for the payment of wages owed to former employees of VegaNana bakery in Bratislava, it turned out that one of the key buyers of VegaNana products is GlutenFreeX, a shop in Vienna. When asked to comment on the fact that VegaNana owed the three former workers 17 252,30 EUR, the shop responded by misleading the public and claiming that they no longer cooperate with VegaNana. This was followed by attacks on Priama Akcia, silencing of critical voices and intimidation of people who disagree with GlutenFreeX's practices. They were among the scores of protestors arrested during the police riot against a protest in Karachi on October 13. We are demanding their immediate release.</strong></p> <p>The demonstration was sparked by the murder of Dr Shahnawaz, who was accused of „blasphemy” because of his posts on social media. Shahnawaz was shot dead last month by police. Following an inquiry into the killing, the Sindh Home Minister announced that the police had “staged the encounter” which led to the shooting.</p> <p>The government had attempted to ban yesterday's protest. The protest, which also was against religious extremism was attended by trade unions, human rights activists and feminists. These unpaid wages can sometimes add up to months of arrears or they can be partially unpaid wages. This might include failure to pay overtime, the minimum wage, benefits and making illegal deductions in pay. In the worse case scenario, failure to pay wages turns into outright slavery. Many times it takes a serious financial toll of the workers who, often having little-to-no savings, are left with no means to support themselves.</p> <p>We can fight against this problem by standing up and taking action. Making Sections of the IWA have taken direct action against the businesses that cheat their workers and often they are successful in getting the money that is owed.</p> <p>If you are angry about this problem, you can also do something about it! A few changes/notes were made to the English version of article for the purpose of clarity by the IWA General Secretary.)</p> <p>Since the Congress of Cordoba in 2010, a faction of the CNT-AIT (now in CIT) began laying the groundwork to gradually abandon its anarcho-syndicalist principles. This was, and still is, an open secret. None of us who, from within the CNT (AIT), have been following its developments have missed its drift towards reformism, masked by an old discourse in our Movement, aiming to make the CNT a more modern organization in line with the times. This is a tired and worn-out narrative.</p> <p>Since that Congress, many from within have conspired to dismantle the ideology of the CNT, and with this goal in mind, they have worked through the following Congresses to strip the CNT of those unions which did not agree with their manoeuvers. To accomplish this, they didn't hesitate to do use whatever means they could. To secure more votes, they even create phantom unions, purchasing more membership fees than they had members. When these actions were denounced, and it was later proven that the denouncers were right, those who raised the alarm were expelled. [1] A confederal technical committee was established, which has been used to redirect part of the Direct Action of the unions toward this committee, which, moreover, has salaried members (some of whom justify themselves by claiming they are self-employed), and they are now demanding its expansion, which will lead to more paid positions. These attacks are made by the shameless union of the International Confederation of Labor, (ICL-CIT) which also shares the name CNT. It has deferred to the state to force their former comrades of the CNT-AIT to stop using the name but not only that. It demands unreasonable financial compensation for so-called „moral damage”. It also demands imprisonment of some comrades and wants a state-imposed gag order on members of the CNT-AIT. This would force them to keep silent about the serious problems that their members face and faced when once together in one organization with the „renovado” CNT – in other words, the „reformed” CNT, which began divesting itself of many of its libertarian ideals some time ago.</p> <p>The IWA stands in solidarity with the CNT-AIT and the values it represents: horizontality, mutual aid, a rejection of the statist methods which have infected various formerly libertarian unions, in both the past and in the present. We will not go into the reasons for this situation, something we already did 3 years ago in a text entitled ‘Against all odds’. Today our intention is to inform and point out some questions about the content and the meaning of the lawsuits. </p> <p>The lawsuits seek to force us (through the State) to stop using ‘the name National Confederation of Labour, the initials CNT, its distinctive signs [flags and logos] ... and its emblem [Hercules fighting the Lion of Nemea]’, with the argument that ‘they are registered as National Trademarks’ (at the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office) in the name of the CNT-CIT. They accuse us of supplanting an identity that they claim belongs to them and seek to confuse their potential affiliates by using this historical prestige. But the only certainty is that, of the two parties, the CNT-AIT is the only one that has always made it clear who it is and to which international it belongs (the International Workers' Association founded in 1922). About the CNT-CIT, on the other hand, one could almost say that they deliberately hide this as a marketing strategy. Who is creating the confusion? The answer seems obvious to us.</p> <p>Another point that we think is relevant in the lawsuits is their intention to judicially prevent us from publically saying what happened, about their intolerable behaviour, their political manoeuvres and their corrupt practices.
