class="bodytext">Telephone Counseling is a confidential service of CMHC that offers an opportunity for UT students to talk with trained counselors about their problems and concerns. A counselor is available 24 hours a day, every day of the year, including holidays. You can call us when you want, at your convenience, in the privacy of your dorm room, apartment, or home. </span></p> <p><span class="bodytext">Telephone Counseling has been in continuous operation for over 40 years, and is staffed by counselors who are supervised and specifically trained to deal with the variety of concerns that are experienced by university students. Students often struggle with issues such as anxiety, depression, family or relationship difficulties, academic pressures, concerns about friends and roommates, or worries about the future. </span></p> <p><span class="bodytext">Telephone Counselors can listen and talk with you confidentially about your concerns, discuss options and strategies, and if needed refer you to appropriate counseling and mental health services on campus or in the community. </span></p> <p><span class="bodytext"><b>Common Reasons Students Call</b></span> <ul type="disc"><span class="bodytext"> <li>You're trying to get some perspective on a difficult situation.</li> <li>You or someone you know is thinking about suicide.</li> <li>You're worried or confused about a friendship, relationship, or family situation.</li> <li>You're feeling lonely, depressed, or discouraged.</li> <li>You're in therapy or waiting to see a therapist, but need to talk with someone now.</li> <li>You're an international student having difficulty adjusting to life in the United States.</li> <li>You're having a hard time making decisions, concentrating, or studying.</li> <li>You want help with an immediate personal crisis.</li> <li>You're looking for referrals to a therapist in the community or to other community resources and services.</li> </span></ul> <h2 class="H2">Crisis Situations</h2> <span class="bodytext">While Telephone Counseling can be beneficial for a variety of student concerns, our telephone counselors have specific training in responding to crisis situations.
